All the top ones on this list, except the London one, are within around 45 minutes to an hour from me. Will have to check them out! I must admit, from my experience of when I lived down south I was pretty disappointed with all but one of our local chip shops and longed for the ones back up here. Mainly because, as Peter Kay says, they didnt do peas, and if they did, they were tinned shitty ones, and my dad, who was a Yorkshireman, would be disgusted and disappointed in me if he was still here and saw me eating anything but freshly prepared mushy peas! So, I was gllad when we moved up this way on again! I would recomnend to anyone that if they come across am old dashioned, coalfieed chipoy to go in and order chips. They usually use really good spuds, and fry in beef dripping, and make THE best chips! One not too far from is best when they use maris pipers. Also when in season, new potatoes. New potato chips are different to normal chips, but when done correctly they are amazing. Also, although it's not a chippy, as its a chinese takeaway, I would recomnend 'Sando' in Scunthorpe for chips any day of the week (well except Tuesday as they are closed). They are like a cross between a chip and a roast potato, its around £2.60 (i think) for a BIG bag of their chips, and theres enough in there to feed 2 hungry adults or 3-4 children, or one big, hungry fat frigger. Like me.
Nice one mate. Maris Pipers are top for chips, but I've never had decent chipped new potatoes, always rank. I lived in Yorkshire for a bit. I love it there, and some great chippies. I'm also with you on proper mushy peas. And some chinese take-away do amazing chips. As you say, cut big and great oil 👍🏼
