My 2 Favorite Tips/Tricks for Doing Honda Valve Cover Gaskets

- There are two things that can make a 4 cylinder Honda valve cover gasket a little tricky. 1, is clearing the wire harness to get the cover out. 2, is replacing the old bolt grommets with new ones.

Aww man! I just did a valve cover gasket job on my ‘02 Civic yesterday. Those rubber plugs WOULD NOT fit onto the bolt, so I resorted to tapping them on with a socket. They got a little bruised, but they haven’t leaked yet! At least I’ll know how to attack them next time.

put on some silicone lubrication = BIGGER THE GOB BETTA THA JOB
I find dropping the new rubber into a cup of boiling water for a minute or two also helps, to get the rubber flexible. A few drops of dish washing liquid in the water also helps, by lubricating the rubber going over the steel.

those are a bugger. sort of different put bolt in vice lube and socket push turn nice vid.

I also always cut those grommets off. Not worth fighting with them when there getting replaced .
