- In this Christmas and Holidays episode of The Little Things, we are going to show select pages from the 1983 Sears Wish Book Christmas Catalog. For a lot of folks who grew up in the 1980s (and well before and a bit after) Christmas-time meant looking at all the merchandise in the giant full color Christmas catalogs from the big department stores of that time. We chose images from that catalog that we felt best represented life in the early 1980s. This is the year that gave us the holiday classic “a Christmas Story” and when we were all introduced to Chinese Yurkey. All was right in the world. I triple dog dare you to pretend it’s December 1983. You just received this magical tome in the mail and it is time to decide what you want for Christmas. Always used the Sears Toy catalog to point out to my parents what I wanted for Christmas! Sometimes my plan worked, but quite often I’d either get a knock off or something I hadn’t even mentioned 😮
I was spoiled rotten 🎉 I miss my parents, they were the most wonderful people in the world! ❤

it was a special day in our house when the Christmas wishbook showed up. Just like the fall tv guide showing all the new tv shows coming out. 😂😂
It was at our house too. Really, for all of the Christmas Catalogs. We all had to take turns looking at them and marking the things that we wanted. It was also the strongest signal that Christmas was getting near. And even after Christmas, the Wish Book and other catalogs hung around to be available for birthday gift browsing. The new catalog would show up each year, and throwing away the old one was like losing a friend. A bittersweet moment. I was surprised by how much of these catalogs I had hidden deep in my memories. 📬oh my goodness, I do exactly remember this one and all the other Christmas catalog books we got through the mail by different companies back then. also remembering that we used to try to grab it before or parents do, so this way we can circle things that we wanted Santa Claus to bring us.
