I remember the summer of 1983 the radio stations played this song all summer. Great memories.
Almost 40 years later and still gives me goose bumps. Saw 'Vision Quest' in the theater back then. Missin' them 80's.....

John Waite is a great rock singer. He had a successful solo career and he was in a few great bands. Check out some of his songs with Bad English. Great stuff.

The ENTIRE Vision Quest soundtrack is the epitome of mid 1980s
Everyone that lived through it WILL agree.
Before he went solo he was with a band called The Baby's they have a huge catalog & amazing songs , They we're huge in the late 70's early 80's ! I think you guys would really enjoy them ! There's one song in particular I think you would really enjoy Asia , It's titled 'You' ( you've got it ) I would consider it an upbeat ballad ! It's definitely one of my favorites !
I know John for the song "Missing You" he was involved in the short-lived band Bad English with the guitarist from Journey Neal Schon, pronounced "shown." They did the song "When I See You Smile." For this Vision Quest film, I suggest Madonna's "Gambler" and "Crazy For You" as well as Journey's "Only The Young."

Time to react to the movie "Vision Quest"!!!
The Babies were an opening band for Journey, and Greg Rollie recommended that Jonathan Cain be Greg's replacement when Greg left the band pre-Escape album. Journey's song "Only the Young " was also used in the movie " Vision Quest." As another commenter said, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain teamed up with Jonathan's former Babies bandmate in the band Bad English when Steve Perry took a burn-out hiatus.

Great choice as others have mentioned, John Waite was successful as a solo artist with The Baby’s before his solo career and then with the Bad English (Supergroup with Neal Schon of Journey and Jonathan, Cain of journey, and theBabys )late 80s

What a soundtrack...saw this movie when it came out in theaters. I think my entire wrestling team in highschool saw this movie. Again great soundtrack.
It's one of my favorite songs from my childhood one I picked my son up from high school around 2015, and I was playing this song. The first time my son asked who sang a song I was playing so he could download it. The song was on the soundtrack for Vision Quest, but the song is not specifically about a westler.
VisionQuest is my all time 80's movie.
If you ever get a chance to see it, the video for this song is pretty good.
If you like his solo work check out The Baby's
