This is a good comparison, I don’t understand the collision detection for the N4 pro either and I’ve wondered about the disclaimer because it’s on the regular N4 too. All I can think of for the disclaimer, there is an issue I have with the regular N4. I want to use low bitrate and it does good but the problem is coming out of parking mode (either the door closes or the car starts moving) the camera sometimes will stop recording in the transition when it is waking up and if you aren’t paying attention then you could miss some important moments. This doesn’t happen all the time but enough that I just switched to motion detection. I have the latest firmware but hopefully they fixed the issue with the N4 pro. I can’t remember if this has happened on warmer days or not.
I'm willing to bet the Tip for summer exposure environment is there to help protect the unit from heat damage. It would be operating more continuously and in a high heat environment. Which isn't recommend for any electronics device.
I just bought N5 4 channel which mode for parking mode would you recommend that wont drain battery 🪫. I currently use motion detection when i park in public places like Walmart n target. Kindly suggest best one
i need a dash cam that can capture vandalism while my car is off and i’m away. i just bought the vantrue n4 pro but after reading the manual and some more comments im confused bc i thought it did what i intentionally bought it for. does it not record while the car is off and parked?
@safe drive solutions. I recently installed had the venture N4 pro installed via their hardware kit. When the ignition is off it constantly boots up then turns off after about 10 seconds then does it again (boot loop). When the ignition is on it works fine. Is this how it’s suppose to work when hardwired while parking mode is off?
@@SafeDriveSolutions It is pretty hot right now so not sure if this has an effect. Not sure about the firmware update either. I will contact Vantrue support to find out.
Apparently if the N4 is NOT hardwired, it won’t allow you to enable the “10s prerecord / 30s after” option on the parking setting. That’s why I asked. I haven’t been able to locate a video showing that enabled and in action. But the website says the option is in the settings as long as it’s hardwired. 🤔
Maybe I missed it but from you videos I understand that viofo in parking mode will start recording on event but from their web site it looks like it will do buffering so that we get 15 sec of recording before the event plus 30 after. Have you confirmed it?
I have N4 Pro and just two weeks ago my car got vandalized from shovel in front of my car, it’s hit hard until car hood dented. So as soon as I checked the dash came it was not record anything … What wrong with my camera which I always connected, now I know that I was setting on collision which is taking 12 seconds to start to record! Now what? I have to pay to fix my car and change mode to motion detection and wishing it’s working properly 😢
That is correct. Sorry to hear that. This is why we do not offer Vantrue in our product selection. Keep in mind the amount of current draw pn a Vantrue dash cam is very high in motion detection or time lapse modes
Well Vantrue wanted my honest feedback of what I see good and challenging with their product. If they look at fixing my concerns. We may carry it some day. But how it currently functions in parking mode it is not a useful device. It is good for driving though
I agree with you. It's unfair to compare Vantrue N4 Pro's collision parking mode with Viofo's motion detection and make the audience to believe that the N4 Pro is ineffective for parking mode. As far as I know, the N4 Pro also features motion detection, and it can record 10 seconds before it detects any activity around the car.
I explain it a lot better in some of our other videos. There is no parking mode timer. That is my main concern as that is what will run down peoples car battery
Vantrue has a 5-Level Adjustable Hardwire Kit. it has Custom timer setting (2, 4, 6, 12, 24 hours or always recording) available for continue recording/receiving power after you parked your car.@@SafeDriveSolutions
@@SafeDriveSolutions oh yeah i would imagine. i've been pleased with the a139 pro. for fun, i ran my iphone 14 pro next to it to see how it would do. iphone demolished it.
@@SafeDriveSolutions right, im not saying it could replace the dash cam, but its interesting to see the differences and capabilities. i feel like the technology in dash cams is decades behinds what's available in phones and other cameras. what are your thoughts about that?
@@TimSmith-db1iu not decades. I do feel it is about 3 years behind. I feel the last 3 years slowed some Korean dash cam manufacturers from moving ahead as usual. They tried keeping costs the same by moving to taiwan for some parts and I think that has caused some challenges with same product quality we are use to. I do feel we will see some great stuff by 2024. But i do feel some new companies will rise

Thank you for this informative video Ben! This is so good to know!! 👍👍

Has Vantrue update this collision impact delay time?
they got it down to 6 seconds but at way higher current draw
In Australia thinkware 3000 is 3 times the price compared to 139 pro. U3000 have priced themselves out of Australian market imo
Must be something to do with tariffs or something

it can but it draws a lot of current and will require a battery pack and frequent driving for proper parking mode coverage

Never heard of that. Is there a firmware update? Is the unit maybe too hot?

It would be good to add the power consumption in parking mode condition rather than during normal use
Its added in on a lot of our other videos
Nice work Ben.
Thanks!
Nice job Ben!
Thank you
Whats the current draw for time lapse and low bitrate for both cameras?

What “Parking Mode” setting did you have the Nexus N4 set at?
I do not remember. We tested this a year ago

It has Auto event detection. It has buffered recording of approx 10-15 seconds prior.
However I recommend using time lapse or low bitrate recording.

R u going to do a review on the

How does the unit know when to go into parking mode?
The parking mode cable has ignition, constant power and ground hooked up. When ignition loses power the dash camera goes into parking mode
Where does the car cam get power from when you switch off the car and leave the car?
In a lot of your videos you seem a bit anti Vantrue.

It does not have impact only recording.
