I like how personality specific their dances are. Mami is the most traditional, spinning and adding flowers and flourishes, making a show of it. Sayaka is less feminine and more serious, as she knows the risks of the job now and is treating her Contract as if it automatically makes her a hero. Kyoko is dramatic and has a dance that almost seems like its supposed to be intimidating and is definitely the fastest and most energetic, and both are shorter than Mami's. Homura doesn't have a dance, because she's long since discarded anything frivolous that isn't necessary to the Mission.
Speaking of traditional, she is the traditional type of magical girl: heroic, kind, strong, that would either be the leader or secondary leader, the one keep the protagonist from being foolish in any other magical girl series. She only gets away with it in the world of puella because she is strong, until this show slaps us in the mouth that the enemies don't wait patiently for them, and they won't hesitate to go for the kill like in many other shows of the genre.
While Madoka Magica puts a lot of attention to theming and symbology, I think it comes down to Mami's personality being girly and themed after flowers, Sayaka being a tomboy with a heroical attitude, Kyoko being the aggressive hothead and Homura being the serious mature character.

I realized something about the transformations. When Mami transforms, the show is still in what I like to call “the deception phase” when it’s tricking you into seeing the show as a fun typical magical girl romp. To emulate this, her transformations are a lot more fun and flashy, and they take a little more time. When the deception is revealed, the transformation are noticeably quicker and not as fun. For example, Kyoko’s transformation right before Oktavia’s labyrinth and Homura’s transformation right before Walpurgisnacht are lacking in symbolism, the flashy style of Mami’s and the intricate movement and detail of Sailor Moon transformations. They’re quick and get right to the point. Almost as if it’s a way of showing how this show is breaking cliches or something To add onto this, in Rebellion before everyone realizes that they’re in a labyrinth, there’s a transformation scene that’s a lot more fun and incredibly flashy. Those transformation scenes are a lot more reminiscent of typical magical girl shows just with the Madoka Magica flare. Similar to how the first two episodes were the “deception phase”, the first half of rebellion is trying to trick you.
For me i always though that it's beacouse their emotions change like first transformation of mami was flashy and impressive becouse she wanted to look cool in front of girls but in ep 3 it was really quick because she wanted to finish it as fast as she can since it was supposed to be her last fight where she was alone
I like how beautiful and detailed they are, yet fast enough where it doesn't make the viewer think "can't the villain just attack her during her long transformation?" Although I love magical girl transformations, their length can be a downside.
They never transformed infront of the villain (or without protection) Mami: disabled the familiars before transforming Sayaka : the familiar was running away so it was ok for her to transform Kyoko: she was about to fight sayaka who was going wait for her Homura : that was before walpurgis came Madoka: walpurgis was distracted
One of the (many) things I love about this anime is the transformations, even tho they are colorful you can also "feel" or "sense" something very unsettling about them. It's hard to explain but everytime I watch this I get this feeling like there's something...wrong about the whole thing. Specially with Sayaka's transformation sequence, that's why is actually my favorite. The transformation theme has a lot to do with it too. It's like you can actually feel how twisted magical girls are and Sayaka's soul getting corrupted. Very odd....and very exquisite too. I love this anime.
I think it helps that, aside from Mami with Credens Justitiam, the girls don't have set transformation themes, they use the OST's that usually show something eerie or scary is about to happen. With Kyoko, she was about to brawl with Sayaka and had every intent of beating her within an inch of her life or outright killing her. Sayaka, was about to go and fight knowing she was risking her life. Homura is at the point where she is ready to go to war as a veteran magical girl... and then Mami is still in the illusion phase. Her transformation is beautiful and her entrance is stunning but you also see her cockiness and overconfidence in trying to be "cool". Her monologue before her death in episode 3 is evident of that, where she's going overboard, while dragging Madoka along, declaring she's not afraid anymore because she's not alone. Which is sweet, but also, foreshadowing because until then, she had a healthy fear of it and didn't treat it like she was having fun. In that episode, we saw her take PLEASURE, great PLEASURE in destroying the familiars and even got cocky and took a fatal risk with Charlotte, unlike how she acted with Gertrude. With Gertrude I feel like we saw Mami's REAL fighting style, while with Charlotte we saw her mistakes and her need to feel cool in front of her magical girl trainees/kouhai's. Mami is the defacto leader, in every other timeline, as the veteran so in episodes 1 and 2, we see that. The way she explains how she hunts and how she specifies off the bat, that it's not fun and that you could get killed if you're not careful... And then she makes the rookie mistake of needing to show off. If you look at her transformations and even her scenes, there's also a lot of emphasis on her head and her neck in particular. In the scene in episode 2 where she's explaining to Sayaka and Madoka what her job entails, her reflection in her table, looks like she's holding her head in her lap, like she's been executed.
All costumes are totally gorgeous! Theres only one anime which magical girl costumes are almost same level, Utakata, but nothing can beat Madoka Magica ones =3
Well, no surprise that Yoko Taro requested Kimihiko Fujisaka to take inspiration from them when he was doing the Intoners' character designs for Drakengard 3
I like how Mami's was the only traditional cheerful and drawn out pretty one because the show hadn't taken the tragic turn yet. While all the others were much quicker and played more action packed or menacing music afterwards. The real shame of the show is that Mami was such a great character and so kind and her friend with Madoka would have been adorable, but in order to have that sudden dramatic turn in episode 3 they killed her off. Yet in every other timeline she was shown as making it much further, in the first she made it all the way to the final boss fight. So in hindsight it seems we were robbed and something was different about the current timeline for her to die so much sooner than in all her other deaths. Wish we saw more of her.
My fav character too, She's also one of relatable/realistic characters (which alot of people didn't see her depth character that much, it's such a disheartening because mostly everyone's least fav character in the show was Mami) she appears again in episode 10 where she teamup with Madoka and Moemura to survive and fight witches also in timeline 3 we could she how broken she felt on the inside after she discovers the dark truths about magical girls she breaks down her emotions then prefers to mercy-killing on her friends and herself to prevent before they from becoming to witches that doesn't mean that her actions are evil but it's also shown her depth human character it means she just a young middleschool girl. Her first strategy is binding Moemura with ribbons and kills Kyoko the aggresive one, she miscalculation that Madoka's mind is stronger so she didn't thinks that Madoka make a move, I felt bad for her too because the fandom it's just bunch of shitty things for her character it looks make outcasting her from the anime :( In the Rebellion movie and the rest of spin-off mangas or portable game. You can sees her development character in so many ways makes this mom figure fills with devotion, encouragement, love, justice, and kindness. Which explored further more about her as a person like in The Different Story manga her life also very tragic which is sad was full of responsibilities that she only survive by making her wish to live on which she regrets much after she realized she could save her parents as well. She feels forced to sacrifice all of her personal life to save many innocent people in her city dying like a real heroes. You should check it out the spin-offs, I know It's so hard to favorably Mami only in 3 episodes just imagine what is like Mami's character in a real person

Tbh, I think that shows how human the two girls are. While they did care about Mami, Sayaka had her own wish she wanted granted. Mami was a short term friend. Someone they would never forget, but not someone that they were willing to sell their soul for. Same with Madoka. She was willing to become a magical girl for Sayaka, a close friend that she's known since childhood, but with Mami that decision isn't nearly as practicable.
i actually cried when sayaka turned into a with and when kyoko died defeating sayaka and when mami died i just open my mouth in amazement . I also cried when in the ending episode they should make a season 2 !!!
thing is most of the transformations arent' spoilers by theirselves, its the fact that the very last transformation has subtitles which reveal a major plot point in the show. you cant really say that it spoils madoka or sayaka becoming mahou shoujo since the official art has them in mahou shoujo outfits sooo
I always got the feeling that Sayaka and Kyoko looked like pirates in their Mahou Shoujo forms while Mami and Homura looked like fashoinista schoolgirls, while Madoka looks like a Gothic lolita. I think my favourite part about Madoka Magica is the length of the transformations. Theres no bullshit but theyre still gorgeous, some animes have transformations that take as long as this entire video and its the same one every time. (Its also wonderful that its not the same stock transformation over and over again aaaah best magical girl series hands down)

I fell in love with Mami after reading The Different Story, it’s also why Kyoko’s my favorite character. Mami is really relatable and I was sobbing throughout the third book
@@Bubblegum_Bitter_Girlie I’ve always found her faking half her personality around Madoka and Sayaka to make herself a good example when she was just as a mess as them was something I do around people to have them not worry about me. For example, when she told them to do their homework when she herself hadn’t done it. Also her abandonment issues, all she wanted was a friend that would stick by her side. I understand that feeling way too well. And finally, how fragile she was mentally. Out of everyone, she was the most mentally unstable. I don’t want to go into detail, but when I’m in school, I’m often teeter-tottering on the verge of snapping from the stress. I relate more to Kyoko and Homura, but Mami’s a close third.
see what i love about madoka is how concrete and complicated the laws int it are that prevent these kinds of things. each wish would have to generate another soul gem extraction since that's the exchange you get with it, and the wishes/miracles you get with it aren't free and since you only have one soul, that's impossible
@@soso_kana All of them five are the best. But if you think in reality Homura is probably is the worst personality but she's best in the anime. U might saying she's did nothing wrong
Am I the only one who noticed that Mami’s is the most like your traditional magical girl transformation? Like it’s very elaborate, stylized, and features a lot of twirling similar to what we see in Sailor Moon.
probably the fact that Madoka took 11 episodes and 10 seconds to finally live up to the title of the series. and Goku took "technically" forever to finally power up. the only difference is that Madoka took an entire series of drama while Goku took 3 episodes of constant fighting for their "powerups". Justified in Madoka's case due to storyline. Still ridiculous though.
This isn't aimed directly at you, but just for future commenters, let's not get in a Sailor Moon debate here. They're both two very different shows made at different times and they both excel in their own ways. No need to bash or compare one or the other. I personally don't think there's much place to compare these two shows either, seeing how different the plot, characters, and pacing are. So yeah, let's end this, okie?
Basically because they look cool. Functionality kind of gets thrown out the window in favor of that. They also want a contrast between boring "normal" clothes. I always inwardly cringe at the thought of having to fight evil in heels though...
the outfits and witches in madoka are so nice-looking, but the transformations are so boring! and in some scenes the animation was just plain gorgeous, but in others... well, let's just say, "not so much."
SilenceGlaiveMaster on the surface, their transformations are pretty and what every little girl (Who believes in wanting to be one) envisions...cutesy and badass (in their mind) at the same time. Until the runes flash, Kyoko ripping reality and revealing an unhinged face, and suddenly that expection is tilted and you begin to question things. Sayaka and Madoka were meant to be the perfect example of everyone's irl expections when they think of magical girls. Then it turns out they are more similar to Flame Haze (Shakugan no Shana), with having their own territories, almost guaranteed fighting if two Flame Haze crosses path with each other, and out primarily for themselves, thankless job. They have to make contract with someone to be a Flame Haze - though in their case it's not the same...ah, person.
For some reason they could never get the size right upon her introduction. The soul gem is finally the right size by the time she transforms for the first time though (soul gem in front of her hands)
I like how personality specific their dances are.
Mami is the most traditional, spinning and adding flowers and flourishes, making a show of it. @MahouShoujo Maisoon it's a joke don't get Angry about it
@MahouShoujo Maisoon yeah but why "!".?
@MahouShoujo Maisoon oh, ok
I think my favourite part about Madoka Magica is the length of the transformations. Theres no bullshit but theyre still gorgeous, some animes have transformations that take as long as this entire video and its the same one every time. (Its also wonderful that its not the same stock transformation over and over again aaaah best magical girl series hands down)
Homura took her privacy to a whole new level💀
HEY GUYS!!! I FINALLY FOUND IT :D THE SONG OF SAYAKA MIKI IS: Gradus Prohibitus
Tomoe Mami's transformations(even though I don't like her that much)are my favorite out of the series.Akemi Homura is my favorite character and Magical Girl.Mami's okay...
I fell in love with Mami after reading The Different Story, it’s also why Kyoko’s my favorite character.
Mami is really relatable and I was sobbing throughout the third book
@@LesbiansMarie How is she relatable if you don’t mind me asking? I always found her the most unrealistic in terms of personality so I’m curious
@@LesbiansMarie That explains it. I understand your opinion though respectfully disagree

Homura is so fcking done with everything lmao. At this point her transformation sequences are essentially just an annoying non-skippable youtube ad
I love Homura
It's Surgam Identidem. Though, in the future everyone, please scroll through the comments since I've answered these questions already! Thank you.
Kyoko's transformations are the best.
Also my favs Magical Girls are Homura and Kyoko.
The non-bluray's transformations' actually better.
5 months later and no one said magic you have lost
see what i love about madoka is how concrete and complicated the laws int it are that prevent these kinds of things. each wish would have to generate another soul gem extraction since that's the exchange you get with it, and the wishes/miracles you get with it aren't free and since you only have one soul, that's impossible
First,i was confused why wasn't madoka magical girl transformation here, then i realized this video was from 10 years ago
If you only watch transformations you get a completely different impression the show.
Homura's music was the most impressive but too short!
She was dealing with an apocolyptic scale witch. She doesn't have time for a five minute song and dance to get each individual ruffle on her top
My favourite Characters : Akemi Homura, Tomoe Mami, Miki Sayaka, Sakura Kyouko and Kaname Madoka but mostly Miki Sayaka and Tomoe Mami.
oh i love all of them o.o didnt notice (again mostly Sayaka Miki and Mami Tomoe
Out of the five I don't like Kyoko and Homura. Homura always pisses me off. I thought I liked her but no.
KYOUKO AND HOMURA ARE THE BEST!I hate sayaka
@@soso_kana All of them five are the best. But if you think in reality Homura is probably is the worst personality but she's best in the anime. U might saying she's did nothing wrong
I love Madoka Magica 🤭
quote of the year my friend
Such a good feeling when I see my buddy Mami.
This show. Too many feels.
I wish for more news about Walpurgisnacht Rising.
They both transforms.
-rolls eyes- then ur not trying very hard. Its right there
Poor Madoka... There is no transformation shown when to be maho shoujo...
god dammit i need to stop drinking so i can remember these times
Am I the only one who noticed that Mami’s is the most like your traditional magical girl transformation? Like it’s very elaborate, stylized, and features a lot of twirling similar to what we see in Sailor Moon.
It took me several episodes to figure out Homura was not in her uniform while in magical form. I guess I expected a more purple outfit. Lol
probably the fact that Madoka took 11 episodes and 10 seconds to finally live up to the title of the series.
and Goku took "technically" forever to finally power up. the only difference is that Madoka took an entire series of drama while Goku took 3 episodes of constant fighting for their "powerups". Justified in Madoka's case due to storyline. Still ridiculous though.
You forgot Mami and Kyoko's 2nd transformation
I've channeled out all the Sayaka, but I still or hear no duck.
It’s at the beginning. Sounds more like a goose.
its been four months and i still dont see this so called duck what the hell
the power of high heels.
listen carefully you will hear it
What is Madokas first transformation theme called? It's beautiful
So yeah, let's end this, okie?
i assume you noticed that this is an anime and not a real life drama governed by real life physics.
Is this what he was talking about?
GOD DANG IT LIAM
Actually, to hear the duck, you have to turn it up loud. It's very slight, but it's there. X3
Otaku test: If you get this reference then you are one.
Basically because they look cool. Functionality kind of gets thrown out the window in favor of that. They also want a contrast between boring "normal" clothes.
I always inwardly cringe at the thought of having to fight evil in heels though...
Best magical girl anime
It's called Agmen Clientum.
Oh actually, I hear the "wack wack wack" noise of a duck, too.
That is hilariously awkward for Sayaka. xD
All the transformations take the same amount of time it takes for most magical girls to transform
Oh hi homura!
the outfits and witches in madoka are so nice-looking, but the transformations are so boring! and in some scenes the animation was just plain gorgeous, but in others... well, let's just say, "not so much."
+Oktavia The films took the concept of transforming and made it into an art form in my opinion, the care and details were stunning
rebellion has better transformations
im gay Rebellions transformations were fucking stunning, just saying.
im gay that changed in rebellion tho
It's in the description now~
I think there's this anime you should watch. It's called Madoka Magica. You sound like you might not have seen it.
I love this anime so dark and emotional, cute, magical perfect anime for me!

"Ima snipe you from across the universe, bitch."
I wasn't done yet. come out IN THE US!
Close your eyes and focus on the background. It took me a few tries but i heard it
Kyouko reminds me on Edolas Erza...
I don't know why but
Kyoko somewhat reminds me of Stephen from Actually Stephen
That's possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard.
Fallen to the dark side Madoka was.
Mami's soul gem in the first scene tho, so god damn big
For some reason they could never get the size right upon her introduction. The soul gem is finally the right size by the time she transforms for the first time though (soul gem in front of her hands)
what does goku even have to do with magical girls im confused
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is one of my favorite anime! Maybe even my favorite show! I can't wait for the movie to
