Just wanted to say thanks for all you do for the model train community. Your videos helped me repair the electric motor in a Tyco 4301 Virginian Diesel engine. Me and my kids had a blast watching your videos and learning about the guts of a model train. It's been fun to see their imaginations come to life!
Very cool Harrison, Walthers is virtually the king of intermodal equipment in HO scale, got several articulated 5 unit (dubbed 5 packers on BNSF) and several stand alone cars as well as 89 foot TOFC cars and they are great! Those small pieces go on the car sides and help prevent the bottom container from shifting side to side and provide a nice snug fit for them. If you look along the tops of the sides of the car, there should be holes drilled for them to be mounted.
Your TTX set is one car, it's supposed to be drawbar connected between the middle wells. It's probably marked A-B-C-D and should be arranged A-D-C-B. What I usually do on those is use some horn hooks with the bottom clipped off instead of drawbars, so they're easy to handle rather than have to pick up one long four piece car. I wouldn't be surprised if the BNSF set is one car also. It's not a big deal, you can run them how you like, only up close is it noticeable. The train looks good on the layout.
Thanks for explaining this. Unfortunately as seen in the video one of the draw bars was busted and I figured why not just replace them all at the same time and not have issues in the future with coupling.
I love that Walthers made theirs out of durable and heavy metal instead of the light and fragile plastic that Athrearn uses. Athearn intermodal cars like to shear-off the cross bracing on the bottom of the cars, leading to containers dropping out...and a huge resulting fender-bender.
SMT Min line , enjoy watching your UA-cam videos. I just retired and bought my first HO set back in February, I picked a Marklin digital set because it has train sounds along with the German styled trains, I also have a couple of O scale layouts in my basement. The reason for the HO layout because I did not have much room , its a 7 foot by 4 foot layout, it is different from my O scale trains which also have the sound effects but its a lot of fun.
Nice double-stack set there! I've been checking out your resto/repair videos of older Tyco/Mantua locos. Very impressive and keep up the good hobbying!
Harrison goes Intermodal. 👍 They look good behind that Dash 9 Locomotive I sent about 2 years ago. Looks like the stack trains I railfan here in Colorado. Add a couple flat cars with UPS and FedEx trailers to the end. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Indeed they do go well with the bnsf dash 9 here. Not sure if I wanna get some intermodals for my collect due to radius curves being outta place but who knows?
They’re not missing the couplers; note the drawbar on the 1st unit you unwrapped (from the 2nd box) - hook that to one of the units without a coupler, then put the draft gear box cover back on. These well cars are usually a 3- or 5-car set. The two cars with couplers are the A and B units, then the remaining ones are C, D, and E (or just C, if a 3-car set). The end unit with the brake wheel (or ratchet handle) is the B-end car, while the other one is the A-end car. There should be another drawbar in there, somewhere. Usually, the prototypes have a shared bogie (truck), but it looks like yours are a model of a set with permanent drawbars.
I noticed that too but if he was to remove two of the cars that were connected together with that drawbar he would end up risking breaking it. I think that approach he did with making all the cars have couplers was a good approach to avoid having it's get broken since it is plastic
Awesome additions to your collection Harrison! They looked great running the layout! Love how your gorgr scene between the two tables is looking! Take care!

As someone who recently worked near the waterfront in Richmond Beach WA, BNSF intermodal trains are quite frequent passing by, alongside Procar tank trains and coal trains. Inspired me to get back into modern railroading and have also been stocking up on well cars to run on a layout. You should definitely weather the cars, it's much rarer to see a clean car than it is to see one weathered or caked in graffiti or both! I know there are quite a few manufacturers of HO scale graffiti decals, Fusion Scale Graphics and Microscale make some nice looking ones, and can be used for the side of buildings or other rolling stock that tend to get tagged~. Would definitely recommend to get some Micro Sol to soften the decals around all the details of the well cars. Maybe even get a weathering powder and use a fluffy brush to streak vertically and spray some rattle can clearcoat to seal it all, sould be a quick and easy effect to pull off and look decent. Excited to see what comes of it all!

G'day SMT long time subscriber been watching your videos for long time. Very nice intermodal train . I have one about 3 as long. If you can pick up a set of Kato well cars they would look fantastic. I believe Kato and Walthers are among the better brands as they have cast bodies. I believe those BNSF well car's you picked up from Australia I have bought from the same seller. these well car's would look fantastic graffiti and weathered which I'm planning on doing to my entire collection of rolling stock and locos. have a good one cheers Scott
I'm impressed they are still making cast models. The added weight certainly seems to improve stability.
Good buy great price, Now you heed is to take it to your club layout and run it. Look now for Autorack cars, But blue container is a APL also. Did find any time to open any Weird boxes?
Good to see you it’s been a while since I’ve ever saw you because my account in 2020 was named Phoenix Crossman
Welcome back!
you know what?
Im gonna get a dash 9, some guys I know have some and they love em, and they're just really good looking
Your layout is amazing
Thank you!
Love the well cars. One idea I have for the future for you would be to get some auto racks with some sort of industry for cars.
Some auto racks would be awesome, I will have to be on the look out!
Very nicely done.
How come the longer crates are on top of the shorter ones? Wouldn't that damage the cars and derail them?
I think that's how they are irl, wish I could say why.
@@SMTMainline whenever I see a freight Train, the longer crates are on the bottom, but I'm in America so it might be a little different than it is Canada.
Looks nice. Is $10 for a in box Pemco gg1 a good price? I picked it up today at a train show
That's an excellent deal. Sure Pemco didn't build the best locomotives but those usually go for $50/$75 online.
@@SMTMainline I thought so, the only thing wrong with it is that the metal wheels came off the axle but I just glued them on and it runs fine
Nice BNSF setup!!!
I like it. I think you maybe want to more carefully open your cars up. I think you may have bent the rails pulling on the plastic wrap.
It's not impossible but I bought everything in "as-is"/slightly damaged condition so it might have already been there.
3:20 the wheels like "here swap me out"
Exactly, no more of this plastic nonsense
Nice video and layout I have loaded EMHUs
Thanks.
Food for thought: Those well cars from Australia. As many miles on them as a real one in scale.. Shipped from China to America. Then to Australia. Then shipped to Canada.
Never would have thought of it that way. I do wonder how they ended up in Australia to begin with though.
@SMT Mainline FedEx packages that floated to shore from Castaway, haha 😄
Kind of ironic since I myself got a haul of cars. Other than mine were SP daylight cars for my F7A-B set
Don’t use oil on the wheels, use Kadee graphite lubricant. Does the job and doesn’t attract dust (or cat hair).
Cool Beans.
What Engines you Getting Next?
Kool Harrison , spine car 53 trailer well look kool
AMAZING!!!! I'm jealous!
Hey SMT, I am planning on making my first layout for a train show out of LEGOs! I have a bunch of sets for it, like the blue and yellow passenger train, the crocodile locomotive, and the hogwarts express. What are your thoughts?
I’m not smt but GoodLuck!
❤
I don't know much about LEGO trains but it sounds like an awesome project!
@@SMTMainline Thanks!!!
Harrison nice score. Can never have enough model trains.
Exactly!
@@SMTMainline good day I was listening to one of your live streams from 3 year ago and you spoke about fireworks in a trash can.wow that brought back some memories I used to get air bags out of junk cars and hook long wire to them place them in a metal trash can and detonate them with a 12v battery and they would come out of that trash can and go up 40 sometimes 50 ft. Good times. If you try it make sure your about 40 ft away and have a 100 ft of wire
Cool consist beautiful loco 👍
12:54 sounds like train wheels screeching on curve!
They are a little.
Nice Layout..👍
