Yep! Often people don't notice when a random smoke screen pops up, but he did. If I didn't have reload booster for torps he would've definitely had me too.

The lack of an obvious telltale of a sub kill is realistic considering in WW2, many DD captains had to guess (without hydrophones) on a sub going dark, slinking away or being destroyed. Oil slicks and debris wasn't always a thing if the sub was deep or visibility was poor due to light or rough seas. Many DD captains spent hours searching for a sub that might've already been killed or escaped.

torpedo spotting indicator + torpedoes on minimap is very useful mods, would have told you if claus was running hydro and had spotted torps heading for shiki

The conceal was 6.3 last patch, which made it unplayable, now at 6km , it's much better
Oh! I did not actually know that. I completely agree with that. 6.3 km conceal would make this ship significantly worse.

Is the spotted indicator for friendly ships in the base game? If so that's a VERY useful piece of info I never knew.. and I've been playing since 2016.
Sadly no. It's a mod by AutoSpy called Spotted Indicator. I forgot that it was a mod :(
I got it from Aslain's modpack. Without the mod I guess you'll have to ask your teammates whether they're spotted and to tell you when they stop being spotted.
Yea I always thought it would be a sweet feature to show some sort of explosion on the surface when a sub is taken out. Missed opportunity but then this developer is lame so no surprise!
Well, it's possible that it can be added! I'll make the suggestion.

no, they just effect, lower graphic = less and bad waves, you can also get a mod ( calm seas ) removes waves altogether
No. They're mostly just a graphical effect. Ships bobbing up and down in water do make it harder for you to hit them. But there are mods that can change what waves look like.

Interesting. I have actually had a UA-cam bug where it plays the wrong video. Title, description and comments are for a different video than they're supposed to be.

these torps don't hit subs either
I have been wondering about that. I thought that maybe if the sub intersects with them they do get hit since subs can be at any depth.
