Thank you for recognizing the prostitution aspect. Nearly all of the reactors don't adress or even recognize that because all are focusing on the action going on to rescue Peeta, well also fair enough of course, but I think, Finnick's speech and his informations there about how the winners are sold to other people in the capital is one of the most brutal and shocking things we hear in these movies.
That time that they were filming that part of where they see Peeta all distraught and saw Katniss was the time Jen literally was missing Josh for like few weeks since they didn’t let either Liam or Jen see Josh for a loooong time and she was missing him so bad that when they played that recording of his took her 11 times to nail the crying part cause she couldn’t see her “baby” cry or so she says on every interview at the time. Another fact, that day too after Jen was able to compose herself Josh literally was behind the screen waiting till she finished to just surprise her which made her even cry more that’s how you know that friendship really was strong and it’s like siblings who literally couldn’t live without one another it’s so cute. That scene btw made me cry too like cmon he looks literally like tortured who wouldn’t cry honestly 😢
this is the best BTS information i've ever heard. Also I didn't realize who played Gale until you said Liam LOL i'll never understand how I don't recognize faces
Some lore, the reason Johanna says she has no one left that she loves in Catching Fire is because she refused to be sold after she won her games so they killed her family.
Is this actually canon or just a popular theory? I don't think she ever says in the books or movies why her family is dead. Finnick said if you refuse the Capitol kills someone you love. Someone, not everyone. It would make more sense if they kill one person and say: "Keep refusing and there will be another death." It is possible Joanna kept refusing and watched them die one after the other, but I think it is more likely that she like Haymitch did somethig that really upset the Capitol and they killed her entire family and left her alive as a warning to people who might consider doing what she did.
@@nicanproud Was it? Beside the fact that her family is dead and that victors are sold what are the other hints? We know from Haymitch that the death of the entire family can have other reasons.
8:25 Snow deliberately left Katniss’ house standing. The Victors’ Village was not bombed. In the book, Katniss thought it might be so that Capitol officials would have a place to stay if needed. When she found the rose, she also thought it was a message to her, reminding her that he could inflict pain anytime.
It’s not clear in the movies since a lot of lore is left out, but Snow knows district 13 exists. He knows where it is, even before the rebellion so a tracker wouldn’t really matter
@ it makes complete sense why you’d think so! It doesn’t explain it in the movie at all, I could explain how Snow knows if you want? Or if you ever want to read the books if you’d rather know from those, because the movies will never really explain it from what I remember
@@LippsReacts and this makes it even worse, when you realize he was being prostituted as a child. And Johanna Masons line in the 2nd movie, "he can't hurt me, there's nobody left that I love" she refuses to be sold and snow had her family killed.
I don’t know about the epidemic. But the lore of District 13 that we know is that its industry was nuclear power (though Katniss grows up believing it was graphite mining). They supplied most of the military forces used by the Capitol. President Snow’s family was heavily invested in D13 and lost everything when it left the country. It seems the previous government reached some kind of truce with 13. They both have nuclear weapons and so long as 13 didn’t intervene in other districts, the Capitol let them be. Military and defense industries moved to District 2, which is a small plot point in the next movie.
District 13 spend 75 years underground, so they have restrictive to rules to stay alive. They literally calculate how many calories each citizen needs to stay alive, and the entire society is structured in a military mindset. As said before, District 13 used to be Panem's military centre, and it has now moved to District 2, where Cato came from, since it borders the city and most of the Peacekeepers are from there. I think it's one of the few districts in Panem actually loyal to the Capitol, since its people are actually well-fed and secure from the games thanks to the volunteer-career-system. Well-fed of course only because the Capitol wants their future soldiers to be in top condition.
I totally agree with you and see your point of view about Katniss being hyperfocused on Peeta. Although time is passing- it's soo important to remember that Katniss is sooo young. She's a kid. All of that pressure is incomprehensible for anyone, nevermind a teenage girl who is traumatized by the games and by the world she lives in. It's normal to be selfish or to prioritize self preservation and the health of the people she cares about the most. Because to Katniss- Peeta, Gale, and her family are bigger and better than she is and will ever be. She knows she is selfish! You should definitely read the books if you get the chance! It is so different experiencing this world through her perspective. Anywho!! I need the second part already!!! Was so excited for this I should have waited to watch but I couldn't help myself lol!! Love your videos girl
Absolutely! It’s 100% not a knock at her at all just an observation. I think it’s valid that she be everything that she is, but it wouldn’t be genuine to not admit that her actions largely influence the safety of those around her at times. But of course I don’t blame her at all.
right? and in fact her knowledge of that is likely why she's so afraid for Peeta. Because very few in 13 leadership will know or care how manipulative the capital can and will be to Peeta and others
I just love the hunger games, I think even more than Harry Potter. It’s just so psychologically interesting and it’s such a good book to movie adaption, it’ll never need a remake in my opinion. I love that you recognised the prostitution aspect and I love that you’re suspicious against coin, not many get that with the first time watching.
29:50 So i can't whistle with my tongue, I can whistle through my lip though, I can create a hole to suck air through by pinching my bottom lip and it creates a whistle noise, so I think it may be possible to still whistle without a tongue depending on the method.
I love Effie as a character so much, considering she grew up all her life in the capital, across the movies you can see how she has grown to care so much for Katniss and Peeta, even in her own way through this one she is trying her best to comfort and support Katniss. Love your reactions though! So happy I found this channel.
You asked how old Finnick was when he won-- he was fourteen, the youngest victor in Hunger Games history. In the books, they don't specify how long ago his games were, but the movies say ten years, making him 24. And that feels about right to me?? Honestly, I think he could be anywhere between 19 (if his games were five years before Mockingjay) to 24.
24 seems right to me but it's also crazy because I didn't realize katniss was supposed to only be 17. Possibly just the choice to have an adult play a teenager doesn't translate well here. But it does hurt in my perception of her at times because I'm like ok you're grown you can do this but she's also just a kid.
@@LippsReacts I think she has the exact same cognitive dissonance there. Like, yes, she's just a kid, but also she's been taking care of her family since her father died when she was eleven, shouldering so much adult responsibility even before the games and the rebellion. There's a quote in Mockingjay the book that's something like "I haven't been considered a child in this war in a long time." It's so heartbreaking.
@@cassidyhausmann-mason4537 the character is supposed to look even younger as well. there's a note about her being so malnourished she looked 14 instead of 16 and it's an aspect of the story would have been difficult to make happen. generally everyone in this world has had to mature mentally faster than they should have
Johanna Mason (the axe girl) had her family murdered as well for not agreeing to be sold. Haymitch had also his family killed for embarrassing the Capitol during his games.
Katniss is a 17-year-old being forced to do something she never asked for. Peeta is her choic. She has every right to be selfish. Her goal was only to save her sister, then Peeta. She isn't obligated to be their champion.Sacrfice herself.Telling a 17yr old girl to shut up and nut up is bonkers.

Calling a 17 year old girl selfish for being upset that she was used as a pawn at the expense of someone she deeply cares for, and wanting that person to be safe is an interesting interpretation.
I mean we can hold space for naïveté while also discussing someone’s behavior. Being selfish isn’t inherently a negative and I think I do a good job of acknowledging where she is coming from but also doing my best in a short amount of time to discuss what is sticking out to me. The biggest negative to someone being selfish or being hyper focused on one thing is that they put others in danger and that’s really what I mean. It’s not a snide remark at Katniss it’s just that the effects of hyperfocus can cost lives. Also the movies do a horrendous job at portraying Katniss as a 17 year old. So let’s not let book lore or world lore shadow the movie reaction too much. The lore is important but it’s not fair to hold me to knowledge the movies don’t portray well or at all
@@LippsReacts Well said, I agree with your point of view now that you said it, the movies in a way dont really portray the fact that katniss is as young as she and peeta and gale for that matter are.
