Thank you Dennis and Dick for the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of this Okuma reel. I picked up one of these reels recently...Okuma Fishing Tackle Solterra SLX-15CS High-Speed Open Top Frame Lever Drag Reel at a local garage sale still in the box and unused. With Dick supplying the reel and Dennis with his expertise now feel confident about servicing this Okuma Reel! Cheers and Merry Christmas to all!
What an impressive reel! I wish I could use one of these fighting a tuna just once. You did an awesome job explaining this reel and how to service it. The reel appears to be extremely strong. I’ve only serviced and restored one vintage Shakespeare Wonder Troll lever drag reel. I enjoyed this one Dennis! My Daiwa GS-9 arrived today but I haven’t seen it because I’m in the hospital. This is the second time this fall that I’m having surgery (kidney stones) right before a scheduled beach fishing trip. It is decidedly inconvenient and uncomfortable. I was hoping to get that GS-9 into fishing shape before that trip. Now I’m just hoping to go. - Chris
It was greased, I may not have said so. You do not grease the main gear's shaft as it passes through the A/R clutch and you don't want to get grease on that part. Thanks again - Dennis

Merry Christmas Jimmy. Glad to hear that the video will help you give that reel a 2nd Chance - Dennis

I hope all turns out well and that you can make the trip. The reels can wait! Best wishes Chris
@@2ndChanceTackle Thank you Dennis! You are a good friend and it means a lot. - Chris
beautiful piece of equipment
Yes it is. I'd love to put that on a 10 foot rod and give it a cast or two
Wow, I'm glad you are doing that reel and not me. That was complicated.
Yes it is, but you can do it with patience, a little knowledge and a sense of humor. Best wishes - Dennis
Nope...very nice reel...but that one I will leave to the professional such as yourself Dennis...Great video...
Thanks 👍
Dennis I did not see you grease the main gear why is that sir ?

Would the level wind version be much different?
The internals should be very similar except for the addition of the line guide and drive gear
Oops you video did not load or something
