Overruled 👨⚖: The whole game sucks, because the toy gimmick isn't very polished and overall frustrating plus compare to the past games the level design and gameplay are a complete downgrade. I say this as a newcomer to this games so unlike you I am not blinded by nostalgia.

That being said It was a long ass time ago, but also consider this: console games with level creation tools and the ability to share them online were few and far between. I understand the game doesn't hold up but any game is made 1000x better by including a level editor. Especially as an aspiring artist, it was "the shit" It might be "meh" game now, but back when it had full online functionality it was very enjoyable and I'd argue it still would be.
The Mini Mario games really got better with the carnival themed one. The levels were better, the controls were simplified, they varied things up with keys and doors you had to put Minis in in order, just a much more quality game. Edit: It’s called Mini-Land Mayhem, thanks Richard Gibson!

Definitely overhated and underrated. I loved this game, and beat it as well. Spent hours making levels and just messing around in the Construction Zone. Actually one of my favourite DS games.

My brother actually got March of the minis for getting an A on his test while I got a war machine figure. Eventually when he gave it to my other brother ae played it like it was Mario maker due to the course creation. Never owned this one though.

Yo, I played this when I was young. I got that game because I really enjoyed Mini March Again (MvDK on the DSi) and Mini Land Mayhem (Second game on the normal DS). The way you controls the Mini-Marios were unexpectedly different to what I got used to, as you have much more control on them. I managed to beat the game at some point, and even 100% complete it! You may wonder how much I was annoyed by accidental Mini-Toy stopping and how much I had to endure it. Now let's talk about the level editor : Oh boy I did spend soooo much time on this! It may have sucked that you are limited with the assets you can use because you have to choose a construction kit, but the special kits grants you alot of thing, especially special 3. Special kits also brings in the reason why Mini-Toad, Mini-Peach and Mini-DK exists in this game in the first place, as you'll be able to use them in those said kits. I can't believe how a single, lonelly Goomba can bring me so much nostalgia! Man, I wish to make a game with the same gameplay as the latest MvDK games, but with much more improvements (And some originality to make it an inspired/indie game rather than a fan-game, because... You know... Nintendo is Nintendo). I would also like to bring back assets from *EVERY* MvDK games + Amiibo Chalenge (OK maybe except the GBA game) so that the player's imagination can go absolutely wild when creating levels!
I only played the DSI shop "Minis March Again" and I gotta say glad I didn't have to physically guide the minis so much in that one Pauline's ballistics are pretty intense, and it's very suspect that Mario still hangs out with her and Peach doesn't seem to care
Don't know what my first game actually was in this genre, but I did grew up with the Mini Mario's, which I really loved. The game play was very good, I like how every theme of a world was visualized through concept and how it got people to get creative. Because I (still) have the original DS, I played the playstyle de Advance game had, which definitely had it's charm. I think Mario VS Donkey deserves its own video up to this day because of all the different playstyles it had. There's actually a lot to be said about it. But that doesn't change the fact I really love doing the tricks as mario (2004), doing minigames from miniland Mayhem and playing created games I made for myself (just not other online created games X)
I really enjoyed this game. But I think my favorite part is honestly the stylized backgrounds. They remind me of SNES in a way, just super charming. It’s a joy to play, criticisms notwithstanding.

This was literally my childhood game. Was the only game in mario vs donkey kong that I had. Without the connection I think it would have been seen as fun as a standalone.

I got really confused because the Japanese title of the 2nd DS game can be interpreted as "March of the Minis" and the first DS game on the DS isn't called 2, but just Mario V DK with a subtitle that includes the word "mini land" The first DS one is Mario VS DK Attack Mini Land, and the second one is Mario VS DK 2 Mini Mini March, if anyone is wondering.

I never actually grew up with march of the minis. I actually grew up with Mini's March Again. It was a DsiWare exclusive and I wanna say it's kind of like the lost levels but for Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2. Super fun game for the puzzle enjoyer.
I played the DSiWare version of this game. It was essentially the same game in terms of mechanics and gimmicks. It was basically an expansion pack of the original with new levels. Even kept the level editor.

There were twelve DLC levels made by Nintendo that you could download using the Receive function in this game.

I never actually grew up with march of the minis. I actually grew up with Mini's March Again. It was a DsiWare exclusive and I wanna say it's kind of like the lost levels but for Mario Vs Donkey Kong 2.

I played the DSiWare version of this game. It was essentially the same game in terms of mechanics and gimmicks.
It was basically an expansion pack of the original with new levels. Even kept the level editor.
Nintendo needs to officially make this the canonical voice for the goombas!
