    I have some patches I did years ago. I didn't spread anything mud or joint compound all over the patch I just taped and did the cracks then sprayed texture on it to match the existing wall. You can't see the patches came out good but all the videos UA-cam shows the effort to spread all across the panel so it's not clear to me how it has to be done.

    Excellent video. What if I have a cut out from a tub surround that has tile attached to it? don't want to drill through tile. Can I attach furring strips with liquid nails on back side of drywall surrounding the hole and attach the original tiled piece to the existing stud and furring strips?

      @@drywallrepairman I ended up using Loctite Power grab construction adhesive to attach the furring strips and then, next day, attached the tiled drywall piece with the same. Can't even tell if was cut out. But thanks for your idea.

    Yes i had a plumber come thru my home and make a hack mess of my walls, why do plumbers have to cut such large holes in walls for a 2 inch pipe🤣

    • @mpxz999
      @mpxz999 8 місяців тому

      Because plumbers need a lot of room to fit in any kind of tool used to make their repair, especially if it's copper work.

      I think plumbers should patch the walls, or have a team of patchers come by to finish- I wonder why they think it is ok to leave a big hole everywhere they go ?

    • @mpxz999
      @mpxz999 7 місяців тому

      @@seinundzeiten a plumbers hourly rate is usually 2-3x more than that of a drywaller, at least.
      So like, asking the plumber to do the drywall repairs too is really gonna cost you.
      But if you're rich then maybe that's no big deal?

    I don’t know what you mean by “hot mud.” In repairing a trashed rental, I used a tub of some stuff I bought at the hardware store - it came in blue or green. I found it was way harder to do than it looks. I went over and over it multiple times, letting it dry overnight each time. It never came out perfectly smooth, so maybe I used the wrong stuff. Also, even though I cleaned the metal drywall spreader, it rusted along the edge. It’s about 10” - 12” wide but I can’t get a smooth finish with a pitted edge. Anyway, I’m new to this so I’m glad I found your channel, but wish you would explain what “hot mud” is and whether it’s preferable to the stuff you buy in the tub at Ace.

      you shouldnt be using quickset muds if u never worked with muds before, you only use joint compounds if ur a beginner
      and if job hard then hire a pro

    • @drywallrepairman
      @drywallrepairman  2 роки тому +1

      hot mud means quick set mud hot because it chemically sets
      if you watched few my videos and materials videos, you would know not to use theses quickset muds as they for pros only -
      hot muds are not for beginners

    What do you do if the pipes stick out further than the drywall? Previous owners did a hack job at patching now I have to figure out how to fix it. How much do all the materials cost about?

    • @drywallrepairman

      u may have try shave down back side of patch, if not Ur going to have patch over it as best as possible and have hump in wall, you can't do step 2 correctly if step 1 was not done correctly. Fix plumbers mistake

      @@drywallrepairman the more I think about it, it looks like I need to attach some skinny strips of wood around the perimeter of the opening like a picture frame then put the drywall over that I guess… or plywood? They built this box thing and literally velcroed it to the opening thinking it would hold. The opening is 19” by 26”! So the velcroed box thing fell off the wall and that’s what I have to enclose. 🤦🏼‍♀️
