I took Santogold[I Believe in Santogold and the self-titled] with me to work this morning[I throw the newspaper]. She's stylish, holds a great intelligence, and has a great aura of confidence about her manner. Mainstream music should take note of her, not to imitate her but take after her individualistic visions. Also, the Diplo mix[w/ Amanda Blank] of I'm a Lady is invigoratingly delicious.
Santigold is nothing like M.I.A. to me. I love that fact that she is a woman of color changing the boundaries. Not all women of color rap, and not all of women of color are video hos. She is so different. She mixes pop, rock, rap, and soul and I love her music! She is beautiful! I love her interviews because she acrtually has good conversation.
I understand why people might want to compare her and M.I.A. but I don't hear the similarities when I listen to their music. I think they're both great artists but I LOVE Santogold.
her and M.I.A. are different. People just want something to compare. They are very different if you REALLY LISTEN to them. They are both awesome and very attractive!
I heard the album, I think it's very good and if I had to categorize it in a single word it would be "eclectic", but I wouldn't be surprised to see it called "rock" or even "punk rock" though that wouldn't do it justice either.
Very different style and music....my gf was playing her CD and now I am hooked. I think if you love music even if you have preferences you should appreciate it. I love hip hop, soul, garage, house/trans and classical and people look at me funny..i looked at them as one dimensional. Great singer....
Amazing, talented & beautiful woman. Personally I don't get the MIA comparisons, although I like her too, but Santogold is in a league of her own...Love her album.
i don't think Santogold's in the same league as MIA... i think she can surpass MIA... MIA is pure reggae rap... Santogold is a variety of thrash, punk, hardcore, electronica, folkie country rap rock and reggae... i'm so excited for her album since i heard her on Grey's Anatomy, I thought, WOW I MUST HEAR MORE OF HER! glad she's getting out there.
Dont know who said shes from Brooklyn..but Santogold is definately born and raised in the streets of PHILLY..Mt.Airy to be specific.. Keep it real..not wrong!!
it really doesnt matter she is different its about time i dont want to say black but i ll say this i am happy black folks are coming out in other areas of music if i had more ppl that looked like me that loved being different maybe i would have turned out better. but it just shows that it is okay to be yourself i am loving this girl. and the shirt says it all like slayer but i love slipknot!!!
I think it sounds a little like tegan and sarah too that was the first thing I thought and thats not bad thing at all...The record is well crafted and very creative..I like it
man oh man. i LOVE santagold. but that one video is like wHAAAT is going on. but man she surprises me! i totally thought she was british! what an interesting surprise!
May I ask a queston? What does the way she talk have to do with her music? I'm just wondering. Because so many people get off track. I think she is fab. I love her and bands like The ting tings. They are bring back that awesome 80's pop punk vibe. And if you were wondering... yes I am a ybf. (young black female)
Stop trying to label her..and her music..just know its different and if you dont like it dont listen..what kills me is that ppl will waste time complaining about something and still stay here and listen or come back to add more to comments lol ...butanyway..I love Santogold!
It does sound like shes from the UK, I originally thought that. Then I was like "oh wow shes not lol". Thats pretty cool though. And yea it must be the unique falsetto she sings in.
try to listen to the music thst she says influences her and you'll prolly like them too...I am an 80's kid, and all her music has some sort of 80's group influence. It is kinda different the 80's is coming back!
Blown away! Something fresh, but still so familiar. She is fabulous!!
you got that right... saw M.I.A. last year at Bonnaroo (which was unreal), and I really hope to go this year so I can see Santogold!!
Her and MIA are so original. Ive NEVER heard anyone else like them. Both freaking amazing.
Real Talk.
We needed You.
Just discovered her.. and I lover her unique outlook on music!!
I'm so glad I discovered her. Can't wait for her next release.

Thank you for doing something different!
I understand why people might want to compare her and M.I.A. but I don't hear the similarities when I listen to their music. I think they're both great artists but I LOVE Santogold.
Refreshing...Different...Boldly herself. She ruled the Beastie Boy's "Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win"
Well spoken individual
how is any type of music better than another. it all comes down to the person listening to it.
LOVE HERRRRRRRRRR
I didn't expect her to have this kind of accent. She just gained like +1,000 respect points from me. :3
she is awesome
her and M.I.A. are different.

You are right..it's all about the environment you grew up in. I'm another black person who talks like her too.
WOW shes SLAYER fan thats tight.
Very different style and music....my gf was playing her CD and now I am hooked. I think if you love music even if you have preferences you should appreciate it. I love hip hop, soul, garage, house/trans and classical and people look at me funny..i looked at them as one dimensional. Great singer....
i didnt know she speaks like that, cuz her singing is like whoa!
Wow, she's cool! @nd i think the music video has a great climate. Her songs are (who would think) fresh, i mean, it's a new way of music styles.
SLAYER!
Amazing, talented & beautiful woman. Personally I don't get the MIA comparisons, although I like her too, but Santogold is in a league of her own...Love her album.
She's my new crush. Look how lovely she is aww
She's has a great camera presence.

She actually produced a female r&b artist around 2000 called "Res", check it out..good stuff.
Love that she's wearing a Slayer tshirt.
she is fuckin amazing.
in some of her songs she does
that's cool, man. I also appreciate those who aren't afraid to be who they are...stereotypes are stupid!!
Her album is just Golden!!! No pun intended
Agreed and that's pretty much it.
omg earlier before i saw this video, i had just noticed how similar her and m.i.a were just alike...
So comparable in fact that Santi is producing (at least in part), Devo's new album.
I think it sounds a little like tegan and sarah too that was the first thing I thought and thats not bad thing at all...The record is well crafted and very creative..I like it
I hear a Missing Persons (Dale Bozio) influence there for sure...rock on girl!

gimmick? the more you type the harder it is for me to hold u in any esteem...but, we do agree on one thing...
by the way. She's from Philly.
I love Santi White. She's so legit.
nice slayer shirt girl! RAWK!
exactly, bluescarlet11 is definitely on a high school mentality to still think you have to dress a certain way to like a certain something
her voice reminds me of siouxsie sioux somtimes(siouxsie and the banshees)
