I love that you gave her fertile eggs to hatch to satisfy her “brooding” instinct. Not everyone has that ability, but it seems like the humane thing to do when possible. God bless you.
They are bred to be good layers, not hatchers, i have my silkies hatch their eggs. Leghorns have essentially lost their maternal instincts in the breeding processes to make them good layers.
Lovely broody hen. It's great that you got her her own place to continue sitting her eggs. But I worry about how too "open" her new home is. I hope she got her coop get covered soon. Also, isn't the coop look light/easy to knock?
So no problem with predators? The wind we get would literally blow this a mile away in a rain storm but I love the concept. I've used a dog crate covered 3/4 with a tarp and it's about the same size as this. ❤
Broody hens are major predators bait. Animals may not want the bird, but they will kill the mama to reach the eggs. Allowing hens to go broody without breaking them of it can be very dangerous without protections set up
Broody hens don’t like being in the open like that which is likely why she went broody in the nesting box. & unless you have a really good LGD that’s going to be watching her 24/7, something can easily grab that hen up by pushing underneath it.
First time my hen went broody only 6 of the 12 hatched and 4 of the 6 were roosters! Oh boy 5 roosters in a space where i couldnt legally keep 1 was... interesting
@@ReformedAcres you set it down there but you can't pick it back up and turn it around because you're extremely pregnant to just pick it up and turn it around then to wait till it starts raining go get a tarp walk back to where it's at put a tarp over it that sounds like a lot less work then just picking it back up while you were there and turning it around Unless of course you just noticed it while you were editing Do all that extra unnecessary work in the rain while you're pregnant
I wasn't saying it's too much work to move. I'm saying that when a woman is pregnant, sometimes she becomes forgetful, so I didn't remember that to just slide it forward was an option. It's a silly mistake, but sometimes your brain just works a bit slower when you're about to have a baby :)
I am fully covered with full length pants in this video. I'm also almost 9 months pregnant and wearing what fits. If you have a problem with women wearing full length pants or shorts that are over halfway down the thigh, you're free to click off the videos. It's 90 degrees here. I'm not going to apologize for modest maternity clothing.
Why not make some nesting boxes just like the laying box? The eggs and the hen will stay dry
Because she does stay dry and this is a very inexpensive fix that works well!
Like you said, the other chickens might bother her😊,good solution what you made!@@ReformedAcres

Ahhh thanks!
I find this so very Sweet when people do this for their chickens 😢So kind
Thanks! 🥰
Just rotate the little building so she’s under the covered part… hope she gets some babies❤
I totally should have just done that 😂
Right, that's what I was thinking 😂😂😂😂
Yep I always believed that a broody hen was something to cherish!!
Looks like raising babies is on her bucket list! Haha, the plastic buckets are a genius idea.
Haha love it! Thanks!
Wow! I have 5 leghorns and not one of them has ever tried to be broody! And they are the best layers!! Faithful to give eggs almost every day!

@damitapparel689 I use my two silkies for hatching too!
@@MadaleneHayes it works really great.
Awwww mothers insticts can never be outdone, including yours ❤

It doesn't tip over and we have a LGD to keep her safe :)
Why don't you just move the tractor up or over so she cover? Lol maybe brain fart day. I get then too
Okay, yeah that would have been way easier 😂😂 I literally never thought of that LOL

We live in a hurricane zone so we are familiar with what to do for wind :) she is still just fine!
@ReformedAcres but really no problems with predators? Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm new to the channel.
@ReformedAcres i see you have a LGD that's awesome. Love the simplicity of it! TFS!
@@ReformedAcresthat chick wouldn’t last one night at my place. It’s not protected.
Terracotta eggs. They eventually figure out nothing is going to happen. I don't want to grow my flock.
Great tip!

We successfully hatch chicks in these coops many times a year and we do have a LGD 👌🏻
Turn it around 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I know 😂😂 my pregnant brain NEVER even though to do that 😂💀
Broody jail😂
😂😂
We do the same!
Great minds think alike!
That's a good Idea.
Thank you!

Did you put them in the crockpot?? 😋
@@ReformedAcres cooking the last one as i type. 👌
Ehhhhh the coyotes and other animals can grab her pretty easy through that!!!
We have never lost a chicken in this little coop and have a great LGD :)
I wouldn't do it like this. I have sepperate Boxes where i sit them in.
I'm glad it works for you!
How can you tell if they are fertile or not?
Also I love how she grabbed an extra egg lol
If you have roosters, chances are they are fertile!
How do you know of the eggs are fertilized?
We assume some are because we have roosters but we don't candle them or anything to be sure :)
@@ReformedAcres ohhh ok. Thank you!
What do you do for a broody human woman??? 😅😂
No idea 😂😅
Couldn't you have just turned the chicken tractor? 😮
I could have 😂 my pregnancy brain really showed out in this voiceover lol
No predators around?
We have a great LGD :)
Man it's a shame that tractor setting concrete and you can't just pick it up and turn it around
Oh well I guess the tarp will work
I've addressed this lol I'm VERY pregnant and just spaced it 😂 I should have done that!

My pregnant brain never thought of that, but yeah should have just done that 😂😂
..aw..
Them buckets a horrible nesting
The chickens have enjoyed laying in them for years :)
Let her set
I am :)
Nice
I'm afraid for her safety.
Don't be :) she's protected by our LGD and still doing fine
I speak for everyone who is to pc to speak, please put on some sort of pants with leg covering or at least some shorts that don't ride up your butt.

Seriously? WTF is wrong with you other than piss poor eyesight?
She's wearing full length leggings. What's your problem?
Those did not look like full length leggings. Now that you point it out I'll apologize for my comment.
Awww. NOW GET MY MOUTH. Gobble gobble gobble. Nuggies yum
"get my mouth" .... I think the chickens share the same brain size you do :')
@beththegreen babes I'm so fuckin' high that I Iiterally don't give a shit. Can you please make some chicken nuggets
