    Apparently Tyler had to fight to keep this song on their last album because the label didn't want to put a song on it that dealt directly with suicide - i would imagine that's also the reason there is no music video
    You will see at any twenty one pilots concert younger people holding up signs saying that twenty one pilots saved their lives - it's very important to them to use their music to help people and get messages across
    it's an important message that needs to be heard and glad you appreciated it - i believe the piano in the background was a take on Beethoven as well
    i'd recommend checking out some of their live performances when you get the chance:
    Trees (Live from Fox Theater)
    Holding On To You (Live from Fox Theater)
    Goner (Live from Fox Theater) - this one you probably will need a little bit more of an understanding of Blurryface to truly appreciate so would probably be something more down the line

      I could totally see that being the case.
      That's gotta be such encouragement to them to keep doing what they are doing and giving it all they have because they literally are saving lives.

    one thing that is noticible abt this song that differs from his others and really makes it stand out to me is how direct and straightforward it is. I'm sure you've noticed that Tyler loves descriptive but super metaphorical imagery in his song writing. it means that there's a lot up to interpretation lyrically, but it makes this song stand out because he only uses One metaphor the entire song the "neon gravestones" calling to him. the rest of it is written like a speech, unlike the rest of their discography which are all more written like poems. it make this song stand out a lot and to me shows how important Tyler thinks the message of this song is, important enough that he leaves absolutely nothing up to interpretation. which mustve been kinda scary to do for him as he always keeps everything in his music just vague enough for everyone to get a different meaning out of it. there's a very direct and intentional message he wants to get across and he does it in this song.

    • @SuffiReax

    Many others cannot relate, but "our kind" knows this well.
    For us, we have the tendency to want to give up, to find an out, to just be done with it all. The path of life is full of hardships and struggles. The burden of giving to others only weighs down the load.
    To endure the path of life is the most sacrificial and praiseworthy path for us. To devote ourselves to life and to use it for the betterment of others.

    I assumed this song came after the series of suicides that happened with celebrities a couple of years ago.
    To me, this song has always felt different from the rest, cause he sounds so serious in it. Don't want to say mad or annoyed, but it feels very real and direct.

    i don’t know if anyone commented this yet but one thing that adds to how powerful those last few lines are is the fact that tyler joseph’s grandfather passed away shortly before this song was released. tyler looked up to him as a role model and evidently respects his dedication to life. also great job you got everything spot on. this video should have more likes. it’s cool to see people dissecting powerful music

    • @SuffiReax
      @SuffiReax  4 роки тому

      That ending is already very powerful, so I am sure that when Tyler sings it, it holds even more weight and emotion behind it. Very sad yet impressive song that not many artists have the guts to put on a record. Shows how strongly Tyler feels about its importance, to risk reputation and fans and labels etc.

    I was also reminded of Chester Bennington with the line "...right before we turn on them
    We give them the highest of praise, and hang their banner from a ceiling"... (The hang their banner could also allude to a sports figure.) But, Linkin Park's last album got horrible reviews, and a lot of fans hated how different it was. There were interviews where Chester vehemently defended the album and their change in sound and said ppl should get over it, but for someone who dealt with depression and anxiety for a long time that criticism could have still crept in. Interestingly enough, I found two articles accusing Linkin Park's changing style on the new album of trying to imitate twenty one pilots.

    • @katstorm13
      @katstorm13 4 роки тому +1

      When he sang Legend live, partway through he would explain he wrote it for his grandfather who had died the year before, and he learned from his grandfather it was worth it to fight to the bitter end. Which does make me think some about Robin Williams. He not only had depression, but had also been diagnosed with Parkinson's, and his autopsy revealed he had something called dementia with Lewy bodies. His wife wrote an article in the medical journal Neurology called The terrorist inside my husband's brain that describes what it was like for them. Even though before he died they had not realized it was an incurable degenerative disease, after reading the article I personally find it kind of callous to fault someone in a situation such as Robin's, who was suffering that much, for not wanting to hold on as long as possible in the hopes that it *might* get better.

    • @SuffiReax
      @SuffiReax  4 роки тому

      That is exactly what I was thinking, if you already battle depression or anxiety, having such negative backlash has got to affect you deeply and so even though he may have said "deal with it" in the interview, that could have been a "tough face" he put on but inside he was shriveling up. both situations are so sad :(

    I always thought that the "i'll mourn for a kid but won't cry for a king" was about mourning for someone who has ended their life early but not being too bothered about someone who has lived their life to their fullest and died naturally. Which is also reinforced in the line, "to life they were dedicated, now that should be celebrated"

    • @SuffiReax
      @SuffiReax  4 роки тому

      Ah see I took that line to mean a celebrity being the "king" also with the line "How could they go if they've got everything"

    • @glossy-jimin
      @glossy-jimin 3 роки тому

      @@SuffiReax I interpreted the line like you did, only the complete opposite. In my opinion, that line didn't portray Tyler's thoughts but rather what ppl usually think. That ppl don't have empathy for someone in a high status bc they think that someone who "has everything" has no reason to want to die. But it's a very lonely place to be. Suicide can start to feel very appealing if all the love you get is for your work and not for you, and there's constant pressure to stay relevant. If you just die, ppl will remember all the good things you did.

    Yay! Sometimes suspense is good! LOL. Yours was, IMHO, one of the best reactions to this song! You are one of the few reactors who picked up on what I see as the specific meaning on the word "neon" within the song - it's just like a sign on a bar or a store trying to lure you in.
    With regard to how moved you were about his shining a positive light on older people, I think the perfect segue to this for your next reaction by these boys should be Legend (off of Trench). And this time, I AM going to give you a clue about its meaning, if for no other reason than for you to see the logic behind making it your next Twenty One Pilots' reaction: it's a love song of sorts, to his paternal grandfather who died from dementia (I believe), during the recording of this album, Trench. (He even addresses that in the song.) I just think that for you, it would create some perfect continuity.
    I really enjoyed this, and I am so glad not only that you liked it, but you got it. One promise I can make to you, and I bet several other people in the comments will back me up on this: even for songs of theirs that may not go as deep, you will find that 99.9% of their material contains far more depth than almost any other artist out there. Tyler has said that he "does not write singles." Every song has its own place and meaning. You will not find ANY filler songs on their records.
    And, like before, I have gone on far too long again. It's just exciting when someone else starts to develop a love and appreciation for something and someone you hold so dear, that it's difficult to know when to stop! Have a great day. Cheers. ||-//

    You got everything on point! I always love to see people's reaction to this song, especially when the message hits instantly. It's really a heavy one, but very important to discuss too.
    You can also definitely hear Tyler's emotion, especially by the end part - that he's firm with this belief and he wants us to realize this too.
    Honestly, this could have been a 'career breaking song' - to call out something like this is B O L D and there could have been a lot of misunderstandings that could have caused controversies, but there's none. Love the way you get the lyrics, you seem to get it pretty much straight away. Such an important song & message that needs to be heard. Neon is a huge part of the trench songs. Something people kind of overlook in the significance is that neon is used to attract people (think Vegas) its a bright showy light but it has no real heat or substance. Insects are drawn to it usually only dying because of that attraction with no benefit. It’s a hollow insubstantial light used to draw people in.

    • @SuffiReax
      @SuffiReax  4 роки тому

      Yes I agree, this is a very taboo topic and hardly touched on. So for him to come at it with such boldness was impressive.

    You nailed it at least in my opinion. This song brought some tears to my eyes the first time hearing it. I’ve struggled with bouts of depression. And the “someone of age” line. My gramps joined the navy during WWII, figure if I can be half as brace as him I’ll be alright.

    I know I'm super late. But the reason he never says the word suicide is because he didn't want to glorify it in anyway. TOP has literally saved my life several times.

    This song is kind of 2 faced in that it is very much related to the world in Trench. Neon gravestones are the neon pillars you see in videos like Nico and Niners and it’s attached to religion in the Trench called vialism.

    Please don't say people have no business commiting suicide. Unless you are in a person's head, you don't understand their thoughts, the demons they are fighting. All we can do is look for signs and be there for each other.
