  • After much frustration working on the Sony PVM-20M2U... I take a step away to repair its little brother the 14m2u. Checked ESR of all caps in the deflection circuits with the peak atlas esr and GME esr meters and replaced the bad capacitors. Nice bright tube!

Yeah, that track fit pretty good with the quick edit. I couldnt record voiceover cause the ol lady was asleep so threw some text on screen, ended up being much faster to edit this way. Noone wants to hear my ass anyway so might do more of these quick update vids like this lol
I had to edit out ken whoopin my ass 🤣🤣

What about the input selector board? I thought you swapped it for the one in the 20M2U?

Good observation, I did.... the 14m2 has the 20m2 board and vice versa but after swapping them around both input boards are working. I cant explain it, maybe an oxidized connector that made good contact after swapping?
But yeah, the 14m2 is together and works great. The 20m2 is at my old place still apart on the bench. I just went through a long move and still trying to get settled in but managed to find another 20m2u on ebay with a bad tube so talked the seller into making me a new listing with just the boards. Hopefully ill find time to get the 20m2 going soon.

My PVM 14M2U is in somewhat better shape. There’s at least two caps near the heat sink that have died & there’s this “pinkish magenta hue” on all the colors. I’m not really sure if some of the things besides the lines going down the screen can be temporarily fixed, so I haven’t done anything to change it, but it is becoming more apparent.

Does it appear like its missing one of the colors? If so it could be one of the color drive transistors on the neckboard.
If by lines going down the screen you mean the red blue and green lines that are usually overscanned off the screen and not seen I would definitely start with an esr meter and replace the failing caps as a first step to see if it helps your color issue since you know some of the caps are bad.

@@LameGaming There’s these two horizontal lines that are slowly going down the screen more over time. All of the colors are present thankfully, but there’s just this pinkish hue that’s affecting everything, including the monitor itself when it has no signal, it’s just a green background & the words “no sync” look like I need to replace capacitors
Edit: I’ll look online for an ESR meter & I guess wait in the meantime. I have some cracks in the front bezel which I’ve been told can be fixed with glue, but I just need to get it out first. Also is it normal for the bottom of the monitor or be slightly bend inward?

@@maxrichards5925 Im not sure if you mean the bottom of the image on the screen is bent inward or the actual bottom of the monitor?
