- Police cars, fire trucks and ambulances responding, patrolling, on scene or general activity with snow plows and other city resources at work during the Bomb Cyclone which hit New York and the North East coast of the United States of America (USA) in January 2018.
The Bomb Cyclone winter storm blanketed the city under a large snow blizzard in freezing temperatures and wind chills of 3 degrees Fahrenheit (-21 degrees Celsius).
This compilation video is a mix of emergency vehicles, snow plows and general activity in the snow.

Yeah I did but not for long - about midday the wind caught my umbrella and sent me head first into 8th Avenue. The handle bashed into my face cutting just above my eye and giving me a black eye, whilst also bruisin' up my leg lol.
My glasses saved me there!
After that I decided not to go out until it'd passed lol.
Oh no! That's dedication though. Good call on skipping the rest of the storm haha.
That city never skips a beat even when it's snowing. The barren streets during the first covid lockdowns really must have been a sight to see.
That ambulance using the hi lo siren at 4:00 sounds creepy as hell haha.

Yup but the DSNY has lots and lots of garbage trucks and lots and lots of streets to clear - so since they're capable of the job they may as well! Not like they're going to be collecting much trash in this ;)
It also means the trucks get used all year around.
Same that's why I filmed it - never seen NYPD use it before! It's a traffic car so doesn't respond or patrol like normal cop cars.

Yes ! in New York City, the Sanitation Department are the primary agency charged with Snow Removal. It really makes sense , we have thousands of heavey duty trucks that traverse our streets every day to collect refuse. Why not equip them with snow plows to clear the streets. Yes refuse collection is suspended for a day or 2 , but I don't think many Cities are more efficient in snow removal than N.Y.C.
It's a great method of snow removal - making use of available resources that the city have hundreds of. A brilliant method of plowing in a diagonal convoy too!
Sonic 7 upstate NY or the NY DOT highway units are SHIT. 2 days prior to a snow storm, 7 days before Christmas, and they only had 2 out there. TWO, I-90 WESTBOUND. People were skidding and sliding all over the road, it was a fucking mess.
If you wanna see some good plows doing some good work, visit Falmouth Massachusetts off the I-95.
All you guys get is 30-40 inches a year, you guys should be good at it. We get 80-100 inches in western NY and clear the same day from our city streets. We might be poor up here but we don’t skip out on snow removal.
I don't know if I'd say you remove it... It only looks like you guys just keep driving and push it around until it turns to slop that'll go down drains. Guy on the loader earlier in the video never stopped to bank any of it just kept driving around

I forgot how messy a snowstorm can make the streets look. I lived in Boston from October 1983 to April 1985, so I went through 2 winter seasons while there. I'm from cali so, other than up in the mountains, we don't get snow down here in the city. I'm know the winter weather looked somewhat like this when I was back there but its been so long since I left that I've forgotten how messy snow can cause the streets to become 🌨.

Because some NJ Transit buses come to NYC for passengers. I see a NJ Transit bus everyday that says "NEW YORK" on the top. They come here to drop people off or get people for a few minutes then leave back to NJ.

I keep seeing a lot of comments about snow plows on garbage trucks New York City has over 6,000 miles of Road and due to that New York City Department of Sanitation has been selected to keep the roads clean during the winter New York City Department of Sanitation has approximately 5000 vehicles. Most being garbage trucks which are able to be equipped with plows.

Yeah may as well - NYC has hundreds of trash trucks, they're perfect vehicles to fit snow plows. Rather than have hundreds of snow plows that are never used year around.

Most of these aren't responses but patrolling with lights as high visibility - police vehicles can't be seen as easy in a snow storm, especially white ones. Plus they don't want too crash.

What's abnormal about it? Most siren units have WAIL and YELP modes.
