Great song. Man, I love the Hoodoo Gurus and look forward to seeing them in Austin Texas, September 3, 2024 but this video has so many quick edits it goes beyond excessive and stupid balloons. I blame the director for the video's look, the song is otherwise, awesome.
I don't think you're wrong at all. Dave even dropped this without really making a 'big deal' about it, on Rockwiz many years later. I was happy to be in the audience. He played with Courtney Barnett and it was bloody magic!
Oh the irony. The Hoodoo Gurus were lampooning classic bands like Boston and now Hoodoo Gurus songs are ‘golden oldies’ barely played anywhere except occasionally on Australian classic rock stations like 101.7. This song wasn’t a dedication. Dave stated it in interviews at the time. It was a statement against stations playing decades old classic rock rather than new songs. In their whole career the Hoodoo Gurus never came up with a riff or song as good as More Than a Feeling. Sadly Hoodoo Gurus are resigned to the ‘classic rock’ dust bin of history while More Than a Feeling is still on rotation on classic rock stations around the world.
While I agree with your explanation of this song - this was (and likely still is) a complaint of a lot of bands on the fringe - that doesn't diminish the fact that the Hoodoo Gurus have a terrific catalogue of songs that rock with great guitar hooks, interesting and clever lyrics and harmonies. They won't ever be as popular as some others but who cares. Enjoy!
After decades of also-rans and nearly theres, this is the song they always needed. Sadly far too late to be the direction they should have taken all along.
I LOVE Hoodoo Gurus... thanks for that ....from Brazil...
Porto Alegre
Florianópolis/SC, Brazil
Their most underrated track. And they have plenty of them. Truly great band.
Underrated and consistently a great band since 1984.
Excellent Power Pop/Garage band. Fan since '84.
It’s the riff from More Than A Feeling played sideways. Great and forgotten song
Sidney's finest.
Sydney.....also worth noting Dave Faulkner is from Bassendean which is a suburb of Perth
One of the best musics of Hoodoo Gurus. I've never feel tired to listening this music.
Classic Aussie humour. In the format if a song.
And done well...

Oh yes. Best Hoodies Song
So true. A dedication to Boston's "MORE Than a Feeling!"
If I remember correctly this was the Gurus response to Nirvana "borrowing" the Boston "More than a Feeling" riff... I could be wrong...

Radio just destroyed the value of More Than A Feeling, like they seem to do with every other old classic rock song by playing it to death.
more than a feeling???
