    Prior service retired urban cop here. I laugh when I see police chiefs on the news explaining the streets. Most chiefs havent sat in a police car in 20 years.

    • @MPitchSOD12
      @MPitchSOD12 12 днів тому +2

      You are so right on this. I’m retired a few years now, and I never could understand a Chief who hasn’t seen the road in decades, trying to tell a street cop how easy it is to do things out there. They are so out of touch. Most as they go up the ranks are just looking for a payday outside the department or political office. Don’t know your opinion on this, but I especially have distain for the mercenary Chiefs who go from city to city saying the right things to the mayors so they can get hired. They have zero knowledge of the department and the city they are in and those are mostly academics who had many good Saturdays to get rank to begin with. NOLA comes to mind.

    • @BirdDogey1
      @BirdDogey1 12 днів тому

      @ The trick for them is to get a 5 year contract and get terminated year 4. Pick up an interim Chief position so they can draw pay from 2 cities.

This guy is a steady drunk, who misled two veterans organizations who fired him. Was a news anchor, and held mid-level positions in the military at best. How does that make him qualified to lead a 900B budget and 3M service members and civilians? By that logic, the top fryer at McDonalds is qualified to be CEO of the whole company. Of the 28 appointed SECDEFs 7 in fact never served a day in uniform. 13 served less than 5 years (most were WWI and WW2 and most were Company Grade) and 1 was an NCO (Chuck Hagel, E5 in the Army served in Nam). Only 5 served for more than 5 years and only 3 rose to the rank of O6 or above….

    On the issue of SA, there's a much larger issue with UCMJ, which is subjectivity.
    The phrase "Commander's discretion" is great for 99% of decisions regarding combat and tactics. But for investigations or issuing punishments, its morally questionable and unjust if a commander has the authority to override/ignore a fact-based ruling and issue their own subjective ruling.
    But hey, I only did 6 years as a Jr Officer.

    I once worked for a Deputy Secretary of Defense. He was a retired Marine colonel (O-6). Behind his back, the senior flag officers called him “the colonel” even though he was the second ranking official in the Pentagon, far out-ranking them. FWIW, two of their other interesting behind-the-back denigrations was “suits” for all civilian officials (always snarled with extreme prejudice) and my favorite, “clackers.” Guess… I’ll wait.
    Clackers is the sound a female “suit” makes when walking down the Pentagon halls…

  • @benjaminwachold3736
    @benjaminwachold3736 15 днів тому

    When I think of the Secretary of Defense, it’s a cabinet position that is civilian role appointed by the President of the United States. The person that the President picks to fill the role is approved by the United States Senate. In the past it has been filled by high ranking military officers but it’s not a requirement rank means nothing. Pete Hegseth has 20 years experience of leading infantry units on the ground with bullets being fired at him. There are great officers and there are bad ones he was one of the good ones. He has a couple of silver stars, one with a V device and other awards plus retiring as a Major. The Secretary of Defense is a liaison between the military and the executive branch that leads the Pentagon. There’s a reason for having a civilian led military. He knows what the warfighter goes through as well as their needs. Oh by the way he’s a graduate of West Point with two degrees from Harvard and Princeton.

    Pete hegseth is the Right wing version of a DEI Hire. Not the best candidate out there, barely passing experience, but picked for visual reasons. He has many dings in his past that disqualify him. Nothing he says or stands for is unique and any veteran can do the same. I think he’s was a very underwhelming pick who is just a Trump yes man. That’s just my opinion. If he does got approved I hope he does well and it is a big plus that he has no connection to the pentagon. So maybe it was a good pick. Time will tell. I just want the us to be as great as it can be.

      As a vet I don't think it's that high but there sure are some dirt bags feeding at the trough and I work with one of them. His 100% disability is 100% bullshit and every other vet we work with has the same opinion. The VA needs to justify their spending and need to keep those on the dole. I do feel for those truly disabled and it's a slap in their face

      He's only said that some lie about experiences, service, medals etc. And injuries to get benefits, jobs etc. Post military career or enlistment. He's also only ever said that the ones that do lie and exaggerate to get jobs etc make the rest and ones trying to get same things without lying or exaggerating that much harder because it makes everyone look bad. All the fraud He's talked about 99% of the time is veterans lying about injuries and so on to get higher disability rating for more benefits monthly & in addition to injuries, medals and awards, things they did in their time in the military, capabilities and skills that translate and also cross into civilian life are what's lied about the most and what people that are veterans are caught doing/saying in regards to fraudulent topics/issues.... but again it's his opinion, he's earned the right to give it and say it, it's not incorrect & he isnt makin up the stuff he says either.

      We do need to reorganize the VA and trim the fat. I’d almost say it’s more than 50%. But that comes down to leadership gaps between the politicians and frontliners. We waste way too much money.

    The real problem with Pete is that he doesn’t hold a board position for any of the big military equipment manufacturers. I think the American people would feel more comfortable if the Secretary of Defense had a financial interest that is directly tied to his appointed position.

      The qualifications for SecDef are as follows:
      Currently civilian that if a Veteran commissioned officer of below the 0-7 rank has not actively served in the last 7 years*, or if 0-7 or above has not served in the last 10 years. This requirement can be legislatively waived by the Senate at their discretion.

Before u make a bs comment remeber I fought for mu opions, and I lived the life with many men who are more qualified then this boot licker.

    I don’t agree with everything Hegseth is about and I don’t know if he’s right for the job. I do hope he does a good job if he gets the gig. Wouldn’t hurt to have some change and trim the fat. We need to go on a diet as a country, together.
    That’s also being positive and hoping the world won’t fall to hell and back once we start depo’ing mfs.

    OK Andy, I hear you. I’m retired USN, 24 years, lowest rank to as high as I could get so I’ve been “ in the trenches” so to speak. My take is: Trump DEMANDS loyalty to him above all else, even the Constitution. I say give Pete a chance to prove himself. But be advised-he’s not going to be able to do something that Trump won’t see as progressing his MAGA agenda. Pete talks great ideas and some I agree with. I used subordinates ideas a lot during my career, but I made sure everyone knew whose idea it was and not mine. If it failed, I took the hit and never called them out. Give me a better idea/plan was my request to them.
