  • In this episode Sara and Lauren speak with Zandra Bear- Lowen, a professor in Conestoga’s Interdisciplinary Studies Department, who often teaches courses related to Indigenous experience and Truth and Reconciliation. Zandra shares how the idea of “community” has shifted for her over the years, and how her trajectory from elite-level volleyball player, to elementary and high school principal (and many other things in between) has set her up well for this chapter of her life professional life as a faculty member at Conestoga. Zandra discusses how the ways she thinks about and presents Indigenous stories in class has shifted for her over the years, and also shares some strategies she’s acquired to help protect and care for herself and her students when course content is particularly difficult and hard-hitting.
