The higher output version of the 4.6L V8 on the Lincoln Mark VIII was what was supposed to justify the significant price hike over the Thunderbird. Good video, and I just subscribed to your channel 👍 Just a couple quick corrections and random info. The Mark VIII was actually built from the 1993-98 model years (I think you said 94-98), and the Mark VIII wasn't the first car to use the Ford modular engine design. The 4.6 "mod motor" debuted on the 1991 Lincoln Town Car. However, the Town Car used the SOHC/16V version of the 4.6. The Mark VIII WAS the first production car to have the 4.6 in the DOHC/32V form and featured aluminum blocks and heads. This was the engine that the 1996 Mustang Cobra was based on. Ford actually imported all the aluminum blocks used in the Mark VIII's from Italy. These Teksid blocks are known for their strength. The Cobras used the same block until around 1999/2000 or so when Ford started producing their own aluminum block. The Mark VIII came with a computer controlled air ride suspension that would automatically lower the car at highway speeds to improve handling and aerodynamics. Like the Thunderbird you also covered in this video, the Mark VIII had an independent rear suspension, but unlike the Thunderbird, the Mark VIII's differential housing, rear lower control arms, and driveshaft were all made of aluminum

If you're being generous enough to include FWD cars, all of the supercharged 3800 cars should count. The Pontiac Grand Prix GTP most of all. The SC 3800 was the performance bargain of the time period and continues to have excellent aftermarket support. The Mark VIII was a bad ass car in the 90's. I've been a GM guy all my life and I lusted for one 30 years ago ever since FoMoCo released the LSC in the mid 80's. After GM killed the G-Body hot rods in favor of the POS W bodies (Thanks Roger Smith) Ford was the last stand for full size body on frame, RWD, V-8 cars. Cars like the T-Bird and Mark VIII fall into the catagory of hot rod luxury full size cars that were really hot from the late 50's to mid 80's. Cars like the Impala SS, Pontiac 2+2. Bonneville, Grand Prix, Chevy Montie Carlo, Olds Starfire, 4-4-2, Buick Skylark, Wildcat, Grand Sport, Grand National, Riviara Grand Sport, etc. For Gen-X car guys the Mark VIII was a cool car.
While stationed in VA, my co-worker had the V-8. I’m convinced that Ford lied about the power output because that thing was fast asf. So fast he lost control and totaled it one day…
A friend of mine bought an Impala SS brand new in 97. It had been a showroom car that got stuffed in a corner of the dealer's warehouse and forgotten about. He blew the thing up a few times from too much nitrous. Just sold it last year to a resto guy after it had sat for 10+ years. He also had a Roadmaster wagon for a bit, very similar car. And I can't forget the super old lady I encountered half a block down the street from his house that had an Impala SS with exhaust. She locked eyes, revved, and did a burnout. What a legend. Based on how long ago that happened, she's either passed away or at the least can't drive anymore. One of my managers had a Marauder back in the day, not much of a surprise considering that place sold 60s muscle car parts. There's just something about the presence those cars have, it's totally different to the other Panther cars. I've seen a number of Marauders in the wild over the years, not so much anymore, but you can always tell that it's one immediately. And just for fun, there was a dude in my early 00s car group we called T-Bird Mike. Any time you asked him to, he'd do a burnout in that t-bird, I believe it was the 302. I didn't know him well, but looking back on it I'm pretty sure he had special needs. Either way he was always down to put on a show with the other guys. It was mostly one dude with his own 73 Mach 1 he restored with help from his dad, a dude with a 94 Mustang GT vert and access to his dad's 99 Cobra vert, and a dude with his dad's 68 Camaro Z28/RS. I had a 94 Accord at the time, hence my handle.
As someone who has owned most of these (not an actual impala but 94-96 wagons with same drivetrain) There’s some important bits (to me) that makes a difference on real world drivability and for me changes a lot about this list…. B-Body chevys are fucking boats…. MN12 thunderbirds and the Mark Viii have IRS….. they don’t have the power but they handle SOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER than the Impala. Not even in the same discussion honestly. El dorado shouldn’t even be mentioned not only because it was FWD but also because northstar engines are timebombs and completely unmodifiable…. A better choice would have been the Fleetwood Brougham because it is LITERALLY Cadillacs version of the Impala SS. They have the same drivetrain and are both B-Bodies. Never driven a maurader but I have driven crown Vic’s and they are very similar to thunderbirds in driving dynamics so I have to imagine a maurader would be a Great car. Another fun tidbit most people don’t know…. The Thunderbird was originally designed to compete against the corvette but it got changed so many times over the years and mustangs became so popular that ford was afraid to offer a car that out powered the mustang and that’s why it ended up being so crappy in the end.
Youngster! I am proud of ya man. You seem like a good kid. I am a car guy too in my 40's been a mechanic off and on, and I love V8's! I drive a modified 2016 challenger 5.7 with about 425 HP right now and I love it! I've had camaro's, Ford mustangs etc. Love your videos.
Another good episode!!!! I loved that TBird❗️Only thing it needed was a 5.0 in it !! The Lincoln LSC used to have a 5.0 and I had assumed that when they changed the body style on the TBird they would drop that in it!!!!! And it needed a Stick Shift❗️😎👍🏽👍🏽
My guy, I really wish you had done a little more research on the Mark VIII. It's an interesting car. For example, the 32 valve engine that is found in the Ford Mustang Cobra of that era is based off the engine from the Mark VIII. The Mark had it first, and at the time, the Mark was producing more horsepower than the 5.0 Mustang, and it handled better. And without that engine, we wouldn't have the engine for the Marauder. Continental hump on the truck lid dates all the way back to the Mark II. It is the signature of the Mark series, not just something they added as an after thought. And, full fill fact, NASCAR tested the Mark VIII as a possible replacement for the Thunderbird. Because of it's design, it posted better lap times than every other car on the track. Unfortunately, Lincoln did not want their associate with NASCAR, so it never happened. That's just a few things I can remember off the top of head.
Im looking for a V8 MN12, lol. had two supercharged Cougars one auto one manual... love the 3.8 SC but upkeep and parts now for em are getting difficult.
A full size Coupe with a torquey big inch V8 under the hood, rear wheel drive and a bit of an attitude. That is a muscle car. That said... solid list, even though, as you said... the Cadillac ETC (Eldorado) is a front wheel drive... I agree that I would consider it 90's muscle. If it was a RWD, I would have one in my garage.
I adored my 96 v8 thunderbird and was extremely sad when i sold it. Theyre amazing comfy dailies and the 4.6 gets surprisingly mpg definitely underrated. Not to mention the insane noise and crackles the 2V 4.6 makes with just a muffler delete. I really want a 92-93 model with the 5.0 some day
Another thing that boosted the Impala SS's mystique was that one was used in the drive-by murder of The Notorious BIG. The car became infamous after that. It was on a 24hr entertainment news cycle for a while in 1997. I had a Black Cherry '96. I sure do miss it. Look up the one Master P had when time allows.
Wow, you nailed it with this one! I had a couple of friends that had 90's TBirds, including the SuperCoupe! That era Eldo was more a wanna be gangster car LOL Lincoln Mark VIII was awesome but so expensive! Impala SS is Iconic and I'd love to have one but my holy grail would be that Marauder! Great video!
Maurader and the Impala SS are two of the last real cool American Muscle cars big heavy and powerful. They scream 90s but still look cool today about the only other 90s . The New Edge Mustang and F bodies of the 90s especially the Pontiacs are cool but they are pony cars right ?
Love the Marauder, but my dream car is the SS, period. I personally own a 2000 Mustang GT and a 2000 Cadillac SLS with the Northstar, and it's been pretty cool to me, just having thermostat issues because it's probably never been changed, but rides like a dream
Had a 95 Roadmaster Limited sedan LT1 all aluminum even the starter. Only problem i ever had was the starter aluminum housing break it fell off the motor. Thats when I learned they meant all Aluminum lol. Also a 96 Mercury Cougar XR7 had a under recall intake manifold fixed after it exploded 100 miles from the auction. Everything was covered no worries. Smoked the trans at 120k, but rebuilt it beefed up shift kit. It shifted fast and was a fast car. Roadmaster was nuts chirping the tires at 40mph and 2nd gear did 110mph hitting the rev and speed limiter at the all at the same time. 😆 🤘
I had a Cadillac from 98 maybe 97 i can't remember but it was top of the line and let me tell you two things 1. It was like driving on a really fast cloud ☁️ and parked like a yacht 2. It made me give up on the thought of even owning a car until I bought a 89 Mitsubishi mighty max which was awesome
The Impala and Marauder FELT a lot faster than the 0-60 (though the 0-60 was solid). You got to go drive some of these things man to really get the feel of this. It's a different feeling
Have to say, my 1990 Thunderbird SuperCoupe with 5 speed manual (bought new - owned for 4 years and 75,000 miles), was perhaps my favorite car I ever owned - certainly the best daily driver I have had. It was a far, far better car than the regular Thunderbird V8 in that era.
Just discovered this cat and I really like the content. Subscribed. I loved the video but I have to disagree with the title. I think about 4/5s of the cars on this list, like often lol.
Just an FYI, The Roadmaster and Fleetwood from 94 to 96 had the same LT1 as the Impala standard and it was optional on the Caprice. Had a 96 Roadmaster limited with the 2.56 rear, great FE and moved like crazy at speed. Also had a 96 Caprice LT1 B4U. That was basically fully loaded, 2.93 gears (Ompala only slightly lower at 3.08) and the spring and shocks even had the same stiffness and calving of the Impala. Also, the Impala is actually quicker than a Marauder and the quickest B Body ever tested by a magazine was a Roadmaster which hit 60 in around 6.5 seconds. Also, the later Thunderbirds, particular the 96 to 97 with the Sport package, were no slouches, and while not a V8, the SC certainly can be considered a muscle car. And what about the cougar? Particularly 91 to 92 XR7s which had the 5.0V8 and was the only way to get the AC adjustable suspension, and 91s even had the same seats and wheels as the 89 to 90 XR7. Finally, in 03 and 04 the Cobra had the supercharged 4.6, the Mustang the Marauder was sharing that engine with then was the Mach 1.
This reminds me when I traded in my 92 Mustang GT for the 93 Cobra and found out it only had 5 more horsepower. I was not to happy. And I love the Impala SS from 1992.
Mark 8's are still sick as he'll and those TBirds handled like they were on rails. 1993 and earlier you could get the 5.0 ho which wasn't much but was still a great first car
People love the Impala SS but a basic P71 will leave it in the dust. Ok maybe not in the dust but it will beat it. The Impala motor sounds better but the Vic rides better and is noticeably faster. Looks go to the Impala for sure. Also the Marauder was not a 90s car.
T-Bird was never a 'muscle car'. Muscle Car is midsize. Pony car is smaller (Mustang, Camaro etc.). It's a 'personal luxury car' like Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Toronado, etc. Most on your list are 'luxo-barges'
@@GreenHawkDrive No, this one is wrong too. The big cars of the 90's are equivalent to the mid-size cars of the muscle car era. My "midsize" 72 Charger is almost identical in exterior dimensions to my "luxo-barge" 97 Riviera. Which is as fast as the 71 R/T Charger, 0-60. The Riviera would blow it away in any other performance metric, except top end speed.
as an owner of a 1990 Thunderbird SC with a manual transmission, it could run with a 5.0 mustang and have TONS of room in the back seat to fit 4 people comfortably. so I DONT agree with only comparing and using the 4.6 V8 Tbird....
The Eldorado has always been Front Wheel Drive and I'm sure this one shared platforms with Pontiac and Oldsmobile Products. The problem with the Northstar is that the head bolts stretch. GM should've made sure that was impossible during design... Or maybe they made sure it was possible
My dad has 2 1990 Tbird SCs. They're definitely heavy as shit, and the brakes are pathetic and small. But they're unique, sound cool, and the SC v6 makes decent torque. I had a Mark VII LSC, also a '90. Great car, cool features, sounds beautiful. Looks both goofy and cool depending on the angle 😂

i appreciate that man! definitely for the future, i need to branch off to other markets!
The last part of the definition is it has to be a 2 door
What about the Chevy chevelle 4 door?
Look at the power from the 90s car
So fast he lost control and totaled it one day…
good lord man😕
I love the Chevy and Mercury, but I am a Lincoln Mark VIII man. That's been one of my favorite cars since it came out.
The 1994 through 1996 Chevy Impala SS.... that's my favorite 😊😊😊
Also you forgot the Mercury Cougar
I’d definitely have the Lincoln and the merc.
for sure man!
badass pair, I agree
As someone who has owned most of these (not an actual impala but 94-96 wagons with same drivetrain)
There’s some important bits (to me) that makes a difference on real world drivability and for me changes a lot about this list….
I appreciate you sharing all of this information. I’m a young enthusiast and being able to learn more and expand my knowledge on cars helps a lot.
Mark 8 has 290hp 30 more hp than an impala SS..
Love the looks of the Thunderbird!
The tbirds we're available with the 5.0 from 91-93. 94-97 switched to the 4.6.
I had 1989 Taurus SHO with 5 speed manual. It was a lot of fun especially as a sleeper.
The Mark Viii is my dream car
My friend had a 95 t bird.I loved it. At the time it seemed like it was powerful and I think his had a shift kit. It hit hard.
Thank you!! The Mark VIII is legendary and beautiful!!
I'm a MK VIII owner and I learned a few things from your post. Thank you for the updates. Cheers.
I miss my 93 thunderbird it was the sc v6
Im looking for a V8 MN12, lol. had two supercharged Cougars one auto one manual... love the 3.8 SC but upkeep and parts now for em are getting difficult.
The four door muscle cars shown in this video are my two favorites on the list.
Appreciate that man!
The Impala SS in all black had a menacing stance and was arguably one of the coolest cars of the time.
Your editing is very tastefully done
Thank you very much!
had a markVIII, was a
great car
I adored my 96 v8 thunderbird and was extremely sad when i sold it. Theyre amazing comfy dailies and the 4.6 gets surprisingly mpg definitely underrated. Not to mention the insane noise and crackles the 2V 4.6 makes with just a muffler delete. I really want a 92-93 model with the 5.0 some day
0:23 gotta love those Endura(TM) bumpers
Another thing that boosted the Impala SS's mystique was that one was used in the drive-by murder of The Notorious BIG. The car became infamous after that. It was on a 24hr entertainment news cycle for a while in 1997. I had a Black Cherry '96. I sure do miss it. Look up the one Master P had when time allows.
My mom had a ‘93 thunderbird when I was in high school. I would “borrow” it often when she wasn’t home and her was. Lol
I actually liked the mark 8.
Favorite was the one that had ‘BRUH’ in the background 5 times
Maurader and the Impala SS are two of the last real cool American Muscle cars big heavy and powerful. They scream 90s but still look cool today about the only other 90s . The New Edge Mustang and F bodies of the 90s especially the Pontiacs are cool but they are pony cars right ?
I had a 93 mark viii in college. Fantastic car. More power than I had ever had. Weak point was the transmission
Why is the marauder on this list when it was not made in the 90s
I commented the same thing. He should have had the V8 Mercury Cougar XR7 listed instead.
Mercury Marauder is ineligible for this list.
It gets walked by V6 Honda Odysseys in the quarter mile.
Lincoln Mark VII stopped in 1992 and should have been included in this list. Loved that car.
I had a Cadillac from 98 maybe 97 i can't remember but it was top of the line and let me tell you two things 1. It was like driving on a really fast cloud ☁️ and parked like a yacht
2. It made me give up on the thought of even owning a car until I bought a 89 Mitsubishi mighty max which was awesome
I owned a 91 Thunderbird with the 5.0 and a 97 Mark 8. Both fun cars.
The Lincoln mk 8 interior looks like a good place to do blow, with that little shelf on the dash
The Impala and Marauder FELT a lot faster than the 0-60 (though the 0-60 was solid). You got to go drive some of these things man to really get the feel of this. It's a different feeling
How do you suppose I do that?
The Marauder wasn’t made in the 90’s
Have to say, my 1990 Thunderbird SuperCoupe with 5 speed manual (bought new - owned for 4 years and 75,000 miles), was perhaps my favorite car I ever owned - certainly the best daily driver I have had. It was a far, far better car than the regular Thunderbird V8 in that era.
Love that 10th gen T-Bird. If I had one I’d swap it with a 5 litre coyote.
Not to mention that 12th gen El Dorado looks pretty cool 🤔
Marauder i not a 90s car. Mark VII has the Cobra 4.6.
Owning a 92 thunderbird sc I was waiting for this vid
The Mark 8 Killed the Lincoln 2 door segment Hey Ford The Lincoln buyer isn't a Taurus buyer Dah !
I remember reading a Car and Driver review of the Marauder and one of the "Lows" was that a v-6 Accord was quicker 0-60.
Just discovered this cat and I really like the content. Subscribed. I loved the video but I have to disagree with the title. I think about 4/5s of the cars on this list, like often lol.
Thank you!
The thunderbird AND that impala ss i STILL want
I'd say my favorite car on this list would be none other than the Impala SS. I've always been a Chevrolet fan and will continue to be one until I die
I miss my 91 T Bird Sport
She was a beauty 😍
This reminds me when I traded in my 92 Mustang GT for the 93 Cobra and found out it only had 5 more horsepower. I was not to happy. And I love the Impala SS from 1992.
Mark 8's are still sick as he'll and those TBirds handled like they were on rails. 1993 and earlier you could get the 5.0 ho which wasn't much but was still a great first car
Everyone's favorite muscle car of the 90's,,,, a 2003 Marauder lol
😂
🤭🤣🤣🤣 it's really a 00 decade car not a 90's one.
People love the Impala SS but a basic P71 will leave it in the dust.
Ok maybe not in the dust but it will beat it. The Impala motor sounds better but the Vic rides better and is noticeably faster. Looks go to the Impala for sure.
Also the Marauder was not a 90s car.
Keep uploading you'll get there soon! you make great content
I really appreciate the motivation:)
❤❤❤❤Chevy impala SS
I still have my 1995 Ford Thunderbird V8. It has seen better days though, but still drives. 💪🙂👍

You are absolutely right and that’s why I addressed that in the beginning.
@@jrcars7017 Gotta critique everything man… We all make mistakes, right?
Had a 91 Thunderbird Sport with the H.O. 5.0... miss that car
>Nobody bothered remembering
>Forgotten
as an owner of a 1990 Thunderbird SC with a manual transmission, it could run with a 5.0 mustang and have TONS of room in the back seat to fit 4 people comfortably. so I DONT agree with only comparing and using the 4.6 V8 Tbird....
Tony Kutchna - t-bird mn-12 project manager. Put the right stuff into the car - over budget Tony was fired. Too bad, Tony did a terrific job
The Marauder wasn't a 90s car.
gm shoulda had the lt5 as an option for the impala ss, that dohc 350 behind a high stall automatic would be absolutely wicked
Impala SS was the Caprice Police Package-re badged and made available to the public
Oh man good video
Appreciate it!
The Eldorado has always been Front Wheel Drive and I'm sure this one shared platforms with Pontiac and Oldsmobile Products. The problem with the Northstar is that the head bolts stretch. GM should've made sure that was impossible during design... Or maybe they made sure it was possible
Thunderbird’s were beautiful!
My thunderbird had that 4.6 v-8 in 94 and it was fast for a mid size car.
I wonder how many car people to this day haven't heard of disappearing car doors. It will come up as a 1993 Lincoln Mark viii.
Concept close to production. A good commercial was even produced.😲
