I’d like to see your mom reacting to the scene or abuela Claudia’s arc because that’s where it hits the most! (Made me cry like a baby) The thing is that Usnavi that’s the main character is from Dominican Republic but abuela Claudia is from Cuba that’s why she is saying Havana and Cuba, and I didn’t realize it was the same chords as in burn wow that’s a nice catch! Great video
Oh cool thanks!
I’m pretty sure Olga was both the actor and vocalist in the movie along with the original play, just goes to show how much this character of Abuela Claudia can’t be perfected the way she does it
Thanks!
Each Character in In The Heights is from a different place. Usnavi is from Dominican Republic because most ppl in the Heights are from DR. Abuela is Cuban, Vanessa Mexican and the Rosarios are Puerto Rican. Society is "welcoming" abuela by telling her to clean and learn English, so they're not really being welcoming at all is the point I think
Ahhh ok !
Interesting fact: Olga the actress who plays Abuela Claudia in the movie version, originated the role on Broadway as well.
oh wow!
So here in El Salvador we all know someone who immigrated due to the economic situation, natural disasters or violence (be it during the civil war or afterward because of gang violence and extortion). But in my case I've never met someone that left the country before the civil war, so your mom's perspective is very interesting!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I think Abuela claudia is from Cuba but the main character, Usnavi, is from dominican republic (they aren't actually related)
“This is abuela, she’s not really my abuela, but she practically raised me. This corner is her escuela”
Ohhhhh yes
In The Heights is by far one of my favorite movies😃!!! Paciencia y Fe made me cry my face off😭!!!!! Your reactions and commentary are truly amazing🤩!!! Stay safe!!! Anyway.
Thank you so much!
If you liked the movie, ypu should see the original musical!
I really hope you guys react to In the Heights! It reflects more the stories of immigrants in general, but is very much a celebration of Latin American culture in NYC. The movie is more streamlined and tweaked than the original musical (of which there is a fantastic proshot of a high school production whose lead sounds like LMM), so it doesn't have everything, but it's very enjoyable.
Also, another Encanto tie-in: Mirabel's voice actress is in the ITH movie! She plays Carla, though I'm not sure if you'll recognize her voice. Stephanie Beatriz is a very talented actress who tends to have a distinct voice for each character she plays.
Oh cool thanks!!!
Your mom was right. Lin Manuel is from PR, usnavi from in the heights is from the DR and Abuela is from Cuba
🔥🔥
Abuela from in the heights is cuban. I grew up in Miami and Bustelo is a very popular brand of coffee for making Cuban coffee and Cafe Con leche. Pilón and la llave are also super popular. In Miami it's very popular for any kind of workplace to have a colada break, which colada is basically super sweetened espresso coffee shots as a mid-afternoon pick me up.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I loved the movie, I’m glad you reacted to this song with your mom, she is so expressive and her laugh is contagious!
Thank you!!!
In the heights is one of my favorite musicals. I haven't watched the movie yet but I just might after this! Abuela Claudia's performance made me cry like a baby. I was really surprised when I heard her voice in Abuela in Encanto and I thought I was losing it hahaha
:)
Why is mamatuto vibing to Abuela Claudia’s verse so darn wholesome and adorable 💙💙💙
:)
I would love for her to react to the original version as I think it shows her vocal chops better
Oh cool!
PLEASE show her “No Me Diga”
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Please to more in the heights songs with your mum especially carnival de barrio
Oh cool thanks!
My first thought seeing the title, “no you did not!!”
Oh yes. I did. 😉
One of your best loved seeing you and your mom reacting. Thank for sharing this with us
❤️❤️❤️
i would really REALLY like to see y’all react to this actress performing it on broadway. the live performance, and the stage version, just hits different to me
Thanks!!
Also mirabels voice actor was in this movie as well
Oh wow!
9:00 Its a bit hard to tell from this video bc the line kinda got split up by their pause here, but one thing I loved about this song was that, as I was watching the movie for the 1st time, I IMMEDIATELY recognized this specific line, "Learning the ropes in America" as a reference (although I'm not 100% sure if it was actually intentional or not) to the song "America" from West Side Story. Just that one line felt like it had nearly the exact same syllable & rhythm pattern as the lines of the chorus of the West Side Story song, "I like to be in America; Okay by me in America; Everything Free in America; For a small fee in America" (albeit this single line was not performed quite as quickly as that chorus gets delivered). Again, I'm not even sure if it was even meant to actually BE a real reference, but the fact that it immediately brought West Side Story to mind made my day, just another reason for me to love this musical, & Lin's work in general 🥰
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Olga Merediz was the original broadway actor for Abuela Claudia’s role for the entire run of the show. She revised her role in the film and she is both singing and acting
so good!
Reprised not revised
There’s an instrument called the Cuban Tres (tres cubano). That instrument is the bright guitar you mentioned that plays montunos throughout the whole song. It‘s a beautiful instrument and a symbol of Cuban music
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
NOO Why did you have to make me ball my eyes out again😭😭
😭😭
Bro really said “context? I don’t know her”
Hi bullet🤗 have a great day
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hope you have a great day really enjoyed the video.
Thank you so much!
I can’t tell if Bullet loves his grandma or not. 🤣♥️ #TeamBullet
Hahaha very much so
On point KB. On point! 🐕
Can't hold back the tears when I hear this song.
great song
Okay so... Usnavi is from the DR. Lin is Puerto Rican, so is Nina's family, and the character of Daniela in ITH. Thats why those locales were in your head. But Abuela Claudia IS from Cuba (Ay mama. so many stars in Cuba. En Nueva York we can't see beyond our streetlights...). She came here in Dec 1943 and has been here ever since, so from that we can infer that she met the Rosarios and the de la Vegas (Nina and Usnavi's parents), as well as all the others when they settled here, and became the abuela of the block as all the kids were born. She took in Usnavi after his parents died (better explained in the play.)
Also... "En español I remember, Dancing with Mayor LaGuardia, all of society welcoming Mami and me" Claudia was VERY YOUNG when she arrived here, and had built up the American Dream in her fantasies. Hence why she clarifies her daydreams were in Spanish but states the harsh realities of what she actually experienced in English. She was not prepared for the rude awakening that was blatant racism and prejudice (You better clean this mess... you better learn ingles... you better not be late... you better pull your weight...)
Also, the song on the Broadway album is in a different place so the lyrics here are changed to reflect Abuela knowing she's dying, but in the original show, she's in shock because she finds she's won the lottery, realizing her Mama's dreams. Abuela's death in the show is unexpected and treated as such,
Thank you!!!
@@JacobRestituto Anytime!
La Vibora is a city in Cuba more specific in Habana
Nice!!
You have a latin theme recently and Stromae made a single that sound like a perfect mix between altiplano sound and cumbia. Its called Santé and its about overworked people (wich a lot are latin inmigrants) please react!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I think the welcoming her is saying that they were welcomed into that community literally and being a small community she might have actually danced with the mayor.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
So Abuela (the neighborhood’s abuela not actually related by blood to anyone) is from Cuba while Usnavi is from the Dominican Republic unless I’m remembering incorrectly.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Lol I usually cry when I hear this song
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️
You can’t rent it you can only buy it at least here in Canada
