    The exact comparison which most people were looking for.
    I suggest you also make a video comparing both the gpus in some content creation tests as well. Like time taken in exporting 3d renders, edited video projects, and game projects, etc.
    This will help those people who are just going to start their content creation journey.

      That's a great idea for a video! I know that the 6400 won't do well, the T600 is MADE for workstation tasks like rendering and editing. But it would be cool to see how they stack up.

      Indeed, especially to see if rx 6400's more raw power wins, or t600's special drivers.

      yeah but your T600 can stream with OBS and run SolidWorks. Fast transcodes with Handbrake. :) Unless you don't care about that. If you're just trying to game, yeah.

    I would be interested in a tear down of both of these cards. I have owned the T600 for about 6 months and overall I've been pretty satisfied with the performance, but I disliked that the factory condition of the card was sub par. In my case, which, assuming from what I've seen and heard from others, applies to the T600 in general - one of the four memory modules didnt have any thermal putty, one had it but didnt contact the cooler in any way, the thermal paste application on the die was so-so and the factory fan curve was heavily focused on low noise. This, combined with the fact the card begins throttling above 70 °C (clocks drop by around 3% starting at 70 based on my own furmark testing) leads to reduced performance and possibly shorter lifespan unless you are willing to tweak it. Another thing the potential buyers should be aware of is that at 100% fan speed (around 6500 rpm if I remember correctly) the card is extremely noisy, sitting well above 50 dBA, although this is just the nature of the beast for these small form factor cards.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому +6

      Yeah I've heard mixed reactions regarding the T600. Some people say they have thermal pad issues, and some say it's fine. I suspect that my model is fine because it doesn't seem to run too hot and the fan definitely isn't what I'd call loud. There are different vendors but they all seem to use the exact same cooler, so maybe there is some variation between brands. I'll consider making a teardown vid.

    • @flux_6223
      @flux_6223 2 роки тому +4

      I also got a T600 recently and think it's great but couldn't stand the noise coming from the fan on it. What I did was get an old GT 430 that had a passive heatsink and moved that over to the T600. The trick is very few cards have screw holes that line up with the spacing of the T600. Some of the 430s, a few other Quadros, and a low profile GTX 650 from Zotac were the only cards I found with heatsinks that lined up fine and fit with all the capacitors on the T600's board. The model I got was an Asus GT 430 DirectCU.
      The heatsink makes it the size of a full slot GPU, but I was willing to have that trade off. I put some proper thermal pads over the memory chips also when installing it. I then put a 120mm fan blowing directly on it and its been running well since. Of course if you do find another card to salvage a cooler from, double check to make sure it will fit OK first.

    Highly anticipated video! I was not expecting such a gulf in average FPS. On Amazon in the US there's roughly a $80 difference in the price between these two GPUs right now. If you're just gaming, and you have pci-e 4, it's no contest.
    How was the set up for this card? Are the drivers smooth? I still have PTSD from ATI/AMD drivers a decade ago...
    The T-600 has served me well, and I'm 99% sure my Optiplex doesn't have 4.0, so I guess I'll just stick with what I have. That's gotta be the norm, right? None of the affordable SSFs sold as office refurbs are going to have PCI-E 4.0.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому +4

      I was actually pleasantly surprised by the drivers. Setup was easy, worked perfectly, overlay comes up easily in-game without any glitching or performance issues, and the extra features like custom resolutions and RSR worked first try.
      Yeah if you have a T600 in a 3.0 system then just stick with that, the performance difference won't be big enough to justify the upgrade. Hopefully this is the start of a new era of SFF GPUs and we'll get something even better in the near future.

    nice comparison. wonder how they would do in the small form factor pc's? not sure what my PCIe x 16 slot is in my sff lol. its an optiplex 3020 sff with a black PCIe x 16. is that only 2.0 lol?

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому +1

      I'm pretty sure the SFF 3020 is 2.0. I have no idea how much performance you'd lose on a 2.0 system but the one video I saw on the subject by RandomGamingInHD showed that you can still use it and get a good gaming experience on 2.0 systems. No matter what GPU you get you'll probably be held back by the processor anyways so I don't think the PCIe thing will be the limiting factor tbh.

    Thingking about picking RX 6400 either RX 6500 XT rn. Both of them sitting around 200 and 265 usd in my country. The GTX 1650 still kinda overpriced here. For my Ryzen 3 3200G rig, which one is better for me? The pcie 4.0 limitation always haunt me every night lol. Great video btw!

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому +2

      I think the 6400 is the better value compared to the 6500 xt, at least at msrp. The 6500 xt is about 15% more powerful than the 6400, but it's usually priced about 30% higher. But just go with whichever will give you the performance you're looking for at what you want to spend! The PCIe 3 vs 4 issue isn't that big of a deal, IMO.

    Another good point, if you already have the T600, you could buy an RX6400 to game and use the T600 EXCLUSIVELY for encode for Plex or as a dedicated streaming card or workstation card in the same rig. Or you could pop out your T600 and cram it in an old PC and build a media server for your household. You could build a second PC for your younger family member who really wants to get into PC gaming, but can't afford to build. There are so many things you can do with an extra GPU. It's just nice to have options in the market at this price point.

    Literally thought to myself "t600 vs rx 6400" half an hour ago while looking at "cheap" gpu prices on my local market and seeing them both tied. Came to YT and loved the fact that I have a dude checking the very same thing in detail like a month ago. :) Thank you very much! So actually in the end, they both have strong use cases and they actually arent bad. T600 4 display outs + all the encoding/decoding stuff and all the nvidia jazz combat nicely with rx 6400 15-40% stronger showing in gaming. But if you only game with your shitty low end oem bucket and a gt 710 in it its a no brainer to go for rx 6400, even with the pcie 3.0 since getting a new pcie 4.0 oem bucket and moving the gpu will literally net you a gpu upgrade lol. Thank you once again and keep content like this coming pls!

Currently I have an i5 9500, rx6400 and 16gb ram. But I think I may switch to the nvidia t1000, coupled with an i7 9900 which is just a swap out on the same board. All this would comfortably fit under the 200 watt power constraints.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому

      Haha I love it! Pushing a system to the max. I don't know that you'd get much better performance from a T1000 though. The T1000 is approx 20% better than the T600. Maybe since you're on a PCIe 3.0 system it would be similar, but the T1000 is a pretty steep price if you're only using it for gaming. If you need it for workstation stuff that's a different story of course.

    Thanks for this comparison video. I was wondering how much faster the RX 6400 was than the T600, so its good to have an answer. Even though the 6400 is faster, I would probably still pick the T600 if I was buying a card today. My motherboard is PCI-E 3.0, so the difference wouldn't be as big as 4.0. Plus I would actually use monitor connectors beyond just 2 and run programs that use OpenGL, which is supported far better on Nvidia.
    The 6400 is still appealing though as I have given thought to making a console replacement system once Steam OS 3.0 is released and has most of the bugs worked out. Right now all the features seem to work best with AMD since thats what the Steam deck uses for an APU, so a 6400 would be perfect for a small low profile case to put next to the TV.

    I found out through my own experience of dealing with this but in most cases almost all the streaming applications by default picks software encoding over hardware encoding, and this is for a actual legitimate reason, and that is using the hardware encoding requires a high bitrate, a very insane high bitrate. But for recording hardware encoding actually is better than software but the same streaming applications almost always pick software encoding over hardware. So most streamers that don't know this are actually using software encoding, also a lot of additional functions and features will not work on hardware encoding vs software encoding of these applications such as filters and such. In most cases the hardware encoding is almost never used, reviewers are out of touch with this or intentionally leave this information out of their reviews, which almost makes me think they are biased or something for a brand that has made open threats to them or something. I think they might be afraid of losing their free graphics cards or something because that totally never happened.

Say, an i5-4590. ;) Will it bottleneck? Will the RX 6400 take enough of a hit because of PCIe version to lose to the T1000? Will it stutter? How much does NVENC impact performance? Etc... c'mon, I've been wanting to see this since the RX 6400 came out.
      The price difference is unreal, though - almost $200 in the USA; totally not worth it unless the T1000 is faster. And then maybe still not worth it, depending on your needs. The RX 6400 almost certainly stomps it in value (frames/sec per $). I am not a fan of them removing h.264/265 on the 6500 and 6400, but you could probably solve that with a 5600/5700G OR and Intel iGPU equipped processor. If nvidia wanted to compete in this space, we would need to see a Nvidia "3030" class GPU hopefully WITH h.264/265 but I would be ok with NOT having encoding IF the price is competitive with the RX6400

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому +1

      I agree, Nvidia should be releasing a 30 class GPU to compete. But I highly doubt they'd make the blunder of not including encoding. The lack of encoding on the 6500 xt and 6400 is only because of their mobile origin - they were originally designed to be mobile only gpus, and the lack of encoding makes sense when you consider that they'd be paired with a processor with a weak IGPU that can handle the encoding. That's also why they only have 2 display outs - one for the laptop screen, and one for an external display. The lack of encoding isn't a cost saving measure on it's own, it's just that repurposing mobile gpus was the cost saving measure. I highly doubt that leaving encoding off the GPU saves much production cost at all. So hopefully if Nvidia releases something at the low end (a true low-end gaming gpu, not just a midrange quadro that can game at the low end), then we'll some decent competition. I have my doubts that we'll get any 30 class GPUs any time soon though :/

      It's a bit of me, and a bit of an act. I believe have a condition called VPI (Velopharyngeal insufficiency) which causes my voice to be more nasally than most people's. It was so prevalent when I was a kid that my nickname was The Dweeb when I was in gradeschool. I found out I could control the nasally-ness of my voice when I concentrate on the way I pronounce certain sounds, being careful to open the back of my throat, and I basically trained myself to talk 'normal' as I became a teenager, and now my 'normal' voice has barely a hint of The Dweeb, I can talk like a normal guy all day, but The Dweeb has sort of become my alter ego and I can slip into that voice at will. And then for these videos I embellish it by acting extra dorky. 🤓

    I am slightly disappointed that the T600 was bested by the RX6400 but with that said I am still happy with my T600. It turned my Dell Optiplex 9020 sff into a useable gaming pc.

    The people that hate this gpu are company's that want you to spend $1200 for a gpu. Which is insane, you can buy a capable PC for that price...or both playstation and Xbox with a year of their game pass with games

    Wondering what cpu you'll be testing with. Over here, i7 4790 prebuilts are pretty cheap, you probably have something less ancient, more ddr4 for similar money. Wonder if the ram type could make an impact on the performance delta between the cards, in theory it should. Whatever it is, can't wait for your test.
    I actually, in this case at least, don't hate the player, but I hate the game. Low profile cards are something I find very interesting, but the prices are still way off from what I'd want them to be. And as for the prices...
    I don't know if you are following crypto at all, I am enough to try and predict the (mostly) gpu market. All the coins have fallen in value, a lot. Also, ethereum bomb is incoming. You can make the argument that there are other coins that are already more profitable on some cards, but the fact of the matter is, ethereum holds vast majority of hashing power. If that monstrosity starts mining other altcoins, difficulty will raise andhence payouts fall to ridiculous levels. So I'm expecting miners to start getting rid of their cards soon, there'll be more cards on the market than the interested buyers, and new cards will have to drop prices to compete and all that shabang. In short, I expect major price drops soon.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому +1

      I completely agree with you about the crypto. I've already seen it in my local market which I follow very closely. Lots of miners getting rid of masses of gpus at once. Not at a huge discount, yet, but yeah soon enough every gamer who wants a 3060 or a 3070 will have one and then these miners will be trying to get whatever they can for their stuff.

    The hardware encoder... they could have just included it with the RX6400 but chose to cripple it. Sigh.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 роки тому

      The lack of encoding on the 6500 xt and 6400 is only because of their mobile origin - they were originally designed to be mobile only gpus, and the lack of encoding makes sense when you consider that they'd be paired with a processor with a weak IGPU that could handle the encoding. That's also why they only have 2 display outs - one for the laptop screen, and one for an external display. The lack of encoding isn't a cost saving measure on it's own, it's just that repurposing mobile gpus was the cost saving measure.
