    Interesting! Thanks for sharing 👍 I recall working on small number of these Philips V2000 series in the early 1980's, when I worked in the VCR department of a service centre in Fareham, Hampshire for about 18 months. The video dept. consisted of myself, one other engineer and an apprentice. Unless I'm mistaken, I seem to recall the only faults I experienced, when they were new and still in warranty were short circuit decoupling radial electrolytic caps. Unless I've forgotten, I cannot remember any other kind of faults they had from those days in our service centre.

    Thank you for another great Video 2000 repair. I learn alot from your videos. It was intresting to learn how you are using the scope. The first part when u where cleaning looked like a VHS mode switch but alot bigger. The video dac is available on ebay ( UK seller).

    Having a break from servicing an unused (but installed, somewhere hot, I'm guessing!) Tascam 302mkII - dual deck/double hell - everything from plastic retaining washers on the reel hubs that have crumbled to pieces, squealing capstan motors (super-fun disassembling those without wrecking the brushes! Definitely not intended to be serviceable!), and a somewhat buckled cabinet (thanks, FedEx!). Ughhh. Anyway, cup of tea and a UA-cam vid while I take a break 😊. Good luck with this thing!! Hard to believe they put DTF on a consumer deck...have horrible memories of blowing up the DT high voltage board on a BVW-75P many years ago. Somehow I managed to have it powered-up while doing a head change or something...the brushes touched the metal chassis...yikes...oops. 😕 Blew a bunch of transistors, but managed to conceal my f***-up from the bosses. Thankfully Sony Spares got the replacements to me quickly! This was back in the day when BetaSP was THE pro format...having a deck out of service was seriously bad news!! Lots of lost revenue! If only I could have time-travelled to 2022 and bought a whole deck for a hundred quid for spares 😆. Kinda glad that V2000 never made it's way to the US...don't relish the idea of working on anything made by Philips/Grundig. All a bit weird compared to Japanese stuff! Did you ever have the misfortune to work on the Philips "Charlie" VHS deck? Grim. All plastic, somewhat like a Betamax loading mechanism. Only ever had one to deal with (in the UK, 1990-ish), *very* Philips. Different just for the sake of being different! Yuck 🤢

      Yes I mentioned the Charlie deck in my video a while back:
      ua-cam.com/video/LhKYhCDsjzI/v-deo.html
      I did a service on the deck on got it working nicely, served me well for many years. But I also never wanted to work on one again.

      @@video99couk haha, quite! I'll have to watch that link u just sent 😊 The only one I ever worked on was for a friend of the chief engineer where I worked many years ago. He, himself, gave up on it and begged me to take a look. We had a lot of VHS decks ending up on our benches as favors to the staff (and friends of staff!) Nobody seemed to mind! I did get the Charlie sorted out, but yeah....never again! Like a Lego VHS mech!

    Thanks Colin for producing and sharing this video. I've got a couple of these machines in storage plus a few of the portables. Most of my V2000 experience though is on the 1st gen of Philips machines....which were just as awful with the added cable pulley nightmare! As you probably know there is a Dutch video dealer/workshop operating on eBay and they've got a number of these machines advertised, some "refurbished" some for spares. Might be worth getting in touch for some spare PCB's?

    Thanks for sharing. My Sony GV-200 video walkman is now playing fine with color but it seems the tape tension might be high as when the tape is loaded the drum spins down very quickly after pressing stop. It spins fine when there is no tape loaded. It it playing FF and REW fine otherwise. My other Video 8 players don't have this issue.

    Yes you are in the testmode, tried it on my 2340, also shows 70A6, pressing the rec button changes the second number into a ‘3’ (which it should do)
    Pressing counterreset outputs a low freq. ramp on outputs 14,15 of the 7155 but mine als laces-up, spins the drum and both reels, I didn’t see that in yours.
    Maybe you’re missing a voltage somewhere in/on the dtf uP, or 7154 DAC.
    The dac uses 12v, 5v, 1v and 7v, the last two are coming out of a resisternetwork/voltage divider in the tape servo ic 1551
    I also tried disconnecting the xtal and reset lines on the dtf uP but then it shut-down after a few seconds.
    Mine uses yet another dac, tda1432p, instead of the tda1462 or tda2503, I think they are are all interchangeable, because the pinouts and the voltages are the same and they wouldn’t change the pcb layout for every type of dac.
    I didn’t see you checking the signals on the input of the dtf uP (pin 39) and the inputs of the dac, both should be TTL signals, easy to measure, in my 2340 they look sort of digital(but a bit ‘peaky’, not perfect digital signals)
    The output of the dac is a funny looking signal with lots of steps in it.
    Fm2 headsignal was a complete mess in mine, couldn’t recognise anything in it (although picture is perfect)
    Also mine does generate dtf drive pulses even without a tape in it, and maybe you should check if all the high voltage supplies are present, because both the dtf uP input (on pin 39 )and the smps output to drive the high voltage transformer come from the same opamp, 7152.

      @video99couk  2 роки тому

      High voltages are present and correct. I'm fairly sure the processor has failed. However, more news on this very shortly....

    Hi Colin , if the FM from head drum looks OK i had some thought about capstan speed "tracking" if i look at the playback picture it seems "off tracking", offcource it can be some signal in the video path but I should also check the sync with capstan run. This is someting thah pop up in my head from the 90´s 😃

    • @video99couk
      @video99couk  2 роки тому

      Capstan is not tracking properly because the DTF system is sending a drifting speed control signal. This is because the whole DTF system is not working.

    The user manual for the TDS3012 says the max. input voltage is only 5Vrms when set for 50R input impedance.
    When set for 1M input impedance (as you'd have with a x10 'scope probe) the maximum input voltage is specified as 150Vrms (400Vpk) CAT I or 100Vrms ( 400Vpk) for CAT II.
    When used with a x10 'scope probe you'd have no great issue probing a 240V signal

    • @video99couk
      @video99couk  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, this has been pointed out. I didn't need the attenuator. But anyway, there was no input signal to the amplifiers.

    The TDA2505 is defiantly still available today on eBay alike, not sure if they're genuine or an FPGA emulating one. I also see the 8bit Intel 8049 processor is listed for sale by a seller in USA.

    • @video99couk
      @video99couk  2 роки тому +1

      The DTF processor has a ROM, which was burned at manufacture by Philips. The DAC is TDA2502 which I think is also a special just for this machine.

    i have the same video 2000 and it does work but the problem is that the tape is running not straight trough the pinchroller is gets stuck so i did notice when i remove the tape loader and did put the tape on the rollers it is running straight but stops after a few seconds ...so it seems that on the right side of the tape loader the tape is getting in place because i can push it a little bit further down . iam not an electrician so you are a guinis in this work ..keep up the good work

    • @video99couk
      @video99couk  2 роки тому

      Pinch roller failure is common with these machines. I fitted one from a Panasonic VHS deck in my VR2120, it worked perfectly.

    I see you are releasing the connection between those 2 pins after switching it on. That's not what the manual says. There is a chance the state of that input pin is checked again when you press a button.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 Рік тому

      Actually it does, look at the manual at 12:21. It says: "Interrupt the connection between pins 21 and 26". So the sequence is connect the pins - power on - break the connection again - press Reset.

    OK, I guess I can't post a link to a site where they sell these old VCRs including this V2000 VCR (I have NO connection to them!). I am amazed these old VCRs still fetch these prices. I guess they are becoming collectibles now because there are not many left now.

    I find it odd that pins have to be shorted to allow an error code, surely it should do the test when the power is applied only.
    Maybe you hold the tape counter button in while powering it up.
    Your switch did work all the time didnt it?

    • @video99couk
      @video99couk  2 роки тому

      I did it as per the instructions, you hold the connection close (press my added button) during mains power-up, let go and then it is in service mode. Press Counter Reset and then it should do a DAC ramp, but it doesn't because I think the DTF controller has failed.

    • @Ragnar8504
      @Ragnar8504 Рік тому

      Shorting might not be the ideal word in this context, you pull this pin high by connecting it to +5 V. Pulling this pin high at startup seems to be what puts the microprocessor into service mode.

      Philips were forever making changes. Really the product was rushed and not ready for mass production.
