My dad arrived home in the early 80s with this recorder. My dad was a buyer for the Belfast CoOp, his name was Frank Hamill. Dad was way ahead and knew that the quality was good and both sides could be recorded on. We had a great time with it and recorded loads of programs. The years went on and the next one my dad got was the beta video, great quality but again that moved on to VHS. Beta was the best quality from the two but no better than the Philips system which was just too expensive.
Replace the faulty cap and leave the lid of when you power it back up so you can see or hear if any of the others fail if not then give it a quick test to see if you can get video output if so then go and replace the caps .
V 2000 was a great system but it’s major drawbacks were expense of machines and tapes, weight the machines were extremely heavy compared to VHS and Betamax, and the playing heads were very of a very short life span, it got the stage on mine where my repair guy showed me how to clean the heads manually, I preferred the Philips to the Grundig as it was more reliable, I had this format for many years until spare parts were impossible to get
You were right about the capacitor blowing. Try replacing that one capacitor and see how you get on. Hope you have a digibox with an analogue UHF RF on it so you can tune the VCR into it (I think some of the older Sky Digiboxes have them). Good luck with it, hated to throw it out and hope to see it working again soon. As for the tapes you can get them via Ebay and I also found that you can replace a worn tape out of a VCC with one from a VHS cassette, they are both the same width.
I just received this machine I put word out I'm looking for obsolete technology and this is today. No tapes and I want them but the previous owner said that he is not sure but will check.
It was a Catch 22 situation. Betamax and VHS had already dominated the market when Video2000 came along and people were reluctant to buy V2000 VCR's unless there were plenty of films to rent in the format and film companies were not willing to issue films on V2000 unless there were plenty of V2000 VCR's to play them on.
My parents had one of these for a short while. I actually had a ton of Michael Jackson footage on one of the double sided tape, all of which is long lost now :(
ayy, smoke came out of my betamax machine the other day, it obviously didn't enjoy the swim that it had in the river dee before I got hold of it. just replace that one blown cap for now, the rest should be ok for a short time so you can see if it works.

The PCB and capacitor design is exactly the same as my 1981 Phillips TV set with a KT-3S chassis. Definitely replace all the caps and give it a go.
Yup, I'm gonna order just the one for now until I know the mechanicals are any good :)

Yup, that's the plan I've formulated, i've ordered the cap :o)
That was the video player we had in the 80s. It was much better than the VHS ones .you could rekord on both side

I’ve heard of them - used to have to fix the buggers! Nice while they were working but…
I used to mend them in the day! loads of problems. Used to eat heads as the DTF snapped them!
Ich hatte das Gerät. Es war damals sehr teuer, aber das beste System. Schade das es sich damals nicht durchgesetzt hat

Gregory Collins Thanks Gregory, looks like cap arrived today so will see later. Yep, thought that might be possible with the tapes :o)
Beautiful machine, always wanted one as a kid.
I was reluctant to chuck it. Been looking for a new home for it was I was having a declutter at home.
Never even heard of this. Looking forward to seeing it working.
Retro Tech 100 Hopefully it will :o)
I had this machine i loved it i had a toploading betamax aswell both machines were better in fucnction than vhs

I rented one of them back in the day. It was a nice machine but the Film Catalogue was limited.
Gary Hart Yes, I imagine so.

Gregory Collins plus the rental companies had a tie in with vhs
Could you tell me with regard to the power supply of this unit. What is the minimum amperage that is needed?
My parents had one of these for a short while. I actually had a ton of Michael Jackson footage on one of the double sided tape, all of which is long lost now :(
SmoothEmJay nooooo :o(
Had one. Great machine and just looks cool. Pls, your hand tho
I took one apart recently. Still interested in better front?
Do you have heads/drum from it?

Arlen Moulton yep, that'll be in a bad way lol. Thanks, seems to be the consensus :)
RetroGamerVX believe it or not my player actually worked for 2 years after its swim before it blew up!
probably corrosion slowly got it then.
nah, a tantrum (tantalum) capacitor blew up after 2 weeks of not using it.
Arlen Moulton Sony SL-C7?
i prescribe THE FIXING HAMMER :P
terraspent lmao ;o)
