REAL 737 Captain tests the Microsoft Flight Simulator 737 Max | Is it really that bad?

- Join me LIVE as we test out the default 737 Max that comes with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
We know the aircraft won’t have the same level of fidelity as a high-quality 3rd party addon like the ZIBO MOD, PMDG 737 or iFly 737 Max but is the default rendition anywhere near the real thing or is it completely unusable?
This full test flight from Jersey (EGJJ) to Glasgow (EGPF) with LIVE weather (Storm Bert!)

THIS STREAM IS NOT TO BE USED FOR REAL WORLD FLIGHT TRAINING
The primary purpose of this stream is to give you the opportunity to see how a Real 737 Captain operates a desktop simulated aircraft in real time using real world operating procedures.
Whilst every effort is made to accurately replicate the way the aircraft is flown based on my experience as a Training Captain/Type Rating Examiner/Instructor, this is purely for entertainment only.
If you happen to be a line pilot or training pilot you must not follow the guidance in this livestream, it is purely for non-professional computer simulated flight. Only consult your approved material from your respective operator.
Personal questions and queries regarding my employment status will not be answered.

In regards to who is the market for MSFS 2024; Jorg (head of flight sim) has said that this is a sim for simmers. I truly believe he has our best intentions in mind. They’ve be very transparent and don’t have any reason not to trust him. Opening it up to Xbox and casual users can only grow the user base to become future “hardcore” simmers.
A small note that you can have a mouse, keyboard and yoke etc plugged into an Xbox and use it effectively as a cheap PC.
Thanks for the streams, looking forward to more Career mode content :)
I have no doubt the sim will further improve, 2024 is not only utilising newer technology but certainly aimed more at the XBOX/gamer market with things such as career/world photographer (this is in no way a bad thing, love the career mode).
Yet to see significant improvements in aircraft handling, taxying is much better and better rudder control during take off/landing.
We need a FlybyWire B38MX
A FlyByCable B38MX
And the max 7, max 9 and max 10
When Jim turned around just as he said it is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
HE WAS LISTENING
the FMC and the avionics are by Working TItle, which explains why they're better than the rest of the package, which is by Asobo.
The A/P responsiveness was really good, a few tweaks needed here and there but good for default.

That means the Garmin 1000 like in the Cessna Caravan and various flight management computers and other systems will be enhanced even more in the future by WorkingTitle? Sounds great! There can never be enough technical and computerized navigation features inside a cockpit.
Do you know if the iconic vertical awareness display function is planned in the future for this most gorgeous and beautiful Boeing ever created?
I am impressed by the clouds! just awesome!
FYI: A330 Driver did a video of the default 747-8 and the speed brakes were broken on that too. Both planes were built by Asobo and with Working Title avionics, so sounds like it might be a common bug, or something with the core sim?
If anyone is just having a black screen when trying to launch the game, and/or you get a black loading screen then nothing, make sure you have VSYNC either on or off in the nvidia control panel. While doing some messing around with settings I found the “fast” or “adaptive” setting will mess things up
40:00 - B737 trim in 2020 particularly in the short, stressful landing challenge is wholly unrealistic. In my opinion, the flight model is based on trim rather than elevator and aileron effect.
I also could not get the speedbrake to work in this particular plane.
I wonder if the sensitive trim has anything to do with the very fast flap retraction and extension , the flight controls may have been coded with the incorrect timing on their movements .(just a guess , I don’t know anything about coding )
Have you had any experience with the wake turbulence in this sim ?
Possibly, they all move too fast haha! Yet to experience any yet.

Not that it really matters, but have you ever tried the default xplane 737 without zibo mods? Could be interesting to see.
I haven't but having tried plenty of other Boeing aircraft in XP12 they all handle very well. I believe the default 737 isn't too bad.
FD2S
It may be worse tbh it's a tossup but the msfs one has far better avionics
Whats the song at 15:00
So do you reckon we’ll be stuck with an unrealistic simulation of crosswind dynamics or do you think third party devs will be able to tune their aircraft to behave closer to xplane ? Cause I know the zibo feels realistic and this obviously doesn’t, but is the zibo realistic when it comes to crosswind only because the overall FM of xp is good or is it down to the zibo s FM being tuned accurately ? What do you think ? Extremely disappointing to see that the wind simulation hasn’t changed from 2020
The ZIBO has received a lot of adjustments to ensure it flies as closely to a 737 as possible and is able to utilise blade element theory to handle realistically. Commercial Jet airliners in XP12 also, in my opinion, handle more realistically as well. It's not to say it's bad in MSFS but the inputs I make on controls in XP12 are closer to what I have to do in reality.
The wind simulation is identical to MSFS 2020 with instant changes in speed when there are gusts.

was literally at my pc, with discord open and didnt get a notification :(
Make sure for UA-cam you push the bell icon and turn notifications to “all”. On discord you should have been notified as I tag @everyone!
FD2S
well the consensus is that the max is not good. The INI builds models are. And there the flight model is actually praised by airbus pilots.
are you still running with a 12900K and an rtx 3080?
Affirm 👍🏻
The game still has a way to go.
have you never been asked to do a delivery flight or a relocation flight Sam? you would be presented with an aircraft in this condition then
I’ve done plenty of ferry flights (positioning empty aircraft) but I haven’t done a delivery, you’re never presented an aircraft in the condition you see in MSFS 2024 with covers, only if it’s in maintenance/storage.
FD2S
will always be just a game
