- I took the AlphaAntenna HexTenna to park K-3411 for an activation and then WSPR test for both the Dipole and Vertical configuration. I used the QRP Station and the QDX from QRPLabs.

Thanks for the demo Josh; I've wondered about this antenna from Alpha, and now I have a good representation of construction, set up, and performance. Appreciate your time.
Look at Dave Casler’s review of this antenna. That hex is a mess by the time he’s done with it. He cracked it t and took an angle grinder to it while repairing it.
It's definitely designed for portable use. Pretty fast setup.
Man I am drooling over that Lab 599 rig!
I’m still studying in my spare time but I always enjoy everyone’s videos they help me understand how stuff works better
Me too
I'm going to do my technician license on Saturday and I've been watching your videos on the test and what questions I could be looking for....great videos thx
Were you able to obtain your Tech license? I suggest the Gordon West Study Guides.
These POTA videos remind me that amplifiers are not necessary to communicate on any band or mode.
I was running 50 watts through most of the activation.
@@HamRadioCrashCourseNew technician here, I’m an OTR Truck driver, and right now my only HF set up is a barefoot 10m Stryker 955 hpc v2 in my semi using 2 hustler trucker antenna’s. This past weekend 03-10-24 I was parked at a truck stop around Mobile AL. Scanning thru the technician portion of the 10 m band, and Answered 2 CQ’s one was in Idaho he was participating in the ID QSO party. The other one was Belgium I never even imagined that to be possible. Needless to say I was very surprised when both repeated my call sign with signal report. I told both I was a truck driver, and what I was using.
By the way awesome video!
@@KQ4OMM Good for you man! I love hearing those stories!
I used that on a POTA last year, was quite happy with it
I really enjoyed it! I saw your video and it did well for you too!
@@HamRadioCrashCourse great video. do you have link for the yellow zippered pouch? Didn’t see it in your Amazon store
That is a Tom Binh bag. K4swl and I have spoke about them in the past.
I actually heard you in daytona beach during this pota. It was in the noise floor which is an s5 for me unfortunately, it was just below something I could really understand but I could definitely make out about 60% of what you were saying
Seems to do very well, looks easy to set up
That radio sounds great!
antenna did great for you and nice drive home music.
Great work!
Good test.
Thats cool 1 you reached tasmania and we got a mention
loved the music!
This video had more production than usual. I enjoyed it.
I'd be all over that antenna but man its expensive.
Hey Josh, I have the same radio station from the QRP Store. It’s my main POTA radio station I use all the time. It’s a great setup!!!
I really do like it. What are you using for mic and speaker? The hand mic is not a great option. from my POV.
I use the stock hand mic it came with. I’m part of the groupio email group, there has been a bunch of guys having issues with their radios audio when using head phones or external speakers. Just be careful.
Josh, when you use the amplifier, it gets hot! The Expedition amplifier units Oliver makes has a cooling fan on them. I made a cooling fan frame for the amplifier. I have extra frames if you want one let me know. I had sent a text with Lord Mike K8MRD to text you about the cooling unit. Did you get the text???
I almost have the same radio, I have the TX-500, I’m supposed to have the amp by the end of the month and I have the ba-500 on back order at HRO, they tell me their shipment is stuck in customs.
Thank you.
A couple of questions: How does it compare to the MPAS 2.0 in terms of performance and portability and is it weather proof from the standpoint that it could be left outside in a Chicago winter?
I have one of these antennas. I won it and I love it. But my counterpoise wire came with an eyelet to fit where the hub screws into tripod instead of the small wing nut. Would it work just the same to use it there or do I need to put a different ring erminal on it that is smaller and fits the wing nut stud?
That is an extremely fascinating QRP radio setup, what AMP are you using on the TX-500?
It’s all defined in the link in description.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Now I feel like an idiot! Thanks! 73 - NS5X
@@UmbrellaXR No way, you're not an idiot. Thanks for commenting!
Nice.
I was a lifeguard at Bolsa Chica for years.
QRP - 50 watts.? Did you mean 5 watts? I m not familiar with this radio; what amp did you have connected? Enjoyed the video as I do any live activation.
He didn’t have the amp on for the first qso.
Amp was off for that first Park 2 Park
a while back you reviewed a CW device for training similar to the Morserino. I cant remember what it was and am thinking I would like to buy one to try out
MCT-73
Great demo, but I hate the speaker mic
I don’t have 4k to drop. Nice set up.
You don’t need 4k
I want one
Now just how did you get that radio set up over here?
I've wanted one for a while now
Setup was on the video, what do you mean?
@@HamRadioCrashCourse the lab599 set up
I did a live stream on it, it’s called The QRP Station. Check it out.
Josh, Since your truck was in the near field, the antenna would have seemed a little long. Otherwise the tape measure would probably get spot on.
Ken de AC3DH
That is entirely possible. 🤘
What’s that app? Is that iOS?
your link is to ABR not M&P
Лучше на машине установить силовые дуги сзади кабины и на неё можно крепить антенну. Не помешает крепление сделать с поворотным устройством! и тогда весь мир у тебя в руках 😉
Actually facing the water at there you’re south west / north east
$3600 for that little station.
Oh sweet I'll take 2 😊
$600 USD, bruh
it look like a insects antenna
Speaker mikes suck
This antenna is a waste of time on 40 meters, also a hassle to put on air !
