Shrek jr was my very first show! All I can add is that my theater group added an intermission between This Is How A Dream Comes True and Morning Person, and that the MTI Broadway Junior Collection version of the script included Big Bright Beautiful World Reprise and I’m A Believer. That might be because it’s an old script (the copyright date is 2014)
I was in Shrek jr. (playing Shrek) in 8th grade! We added an intermission and our script DID have I'm A Believer, so I'm curious as to why it's sometimes not there... We also cut the "storytellers" and just had me (Shrek) do the narration. I think it was for the best, but that could be due to my own 8th grade ego :)
Shrek can’t have a solo song of his own but Elsa in frozen jr gets BOTH of her solo songs like dangerous to dream and let it go. Dangerous to dream is cut down a little bit but it’s still included.
I think im a believer is added back in, but i also think it's optional cause many theaters i work at if you will have done shrek.jr 2018-2022 and im a believer is back in idk when they got the rights tho
I was in a community theater production of Shrek in 2022 and played Dead Knight 3, one of Farquaad’s guards, and the “Angry Mob” at the top of the show, and have seen Shrek Jr. and I must say that I like the full version a lot better, but I understand the purpose of the Jr. versions is to get kids’ feet wet in the theatrical world. However the production of Shrek Jr. I saw included Who I’d Be. I’m an aspiring theater educator myself, and have seen a couple of your videos, and I learned a lot. Greetings from Connecticut.
as someone that wants to play lord farquaad (my dream role), i would barely sing, since they cut ballad of farquaad and barely singing in whats up duloc (also they changed the wolfs line bc its inappropriate for schools)
I would love to see you do this for the little mermaid and it's Jr iteration! That was my first show(the jr version)and I've done several shows since at the same theater
In I know it’s today they cut the teen Fiona verse and share the young Fiona verse with teen Fiona, making the transition between the two much less smooth.
Something to,not just shrek but a lot of jr musicals imo butcher the key of songs, which in my eyes ruins the emotion,take for example big bright beautiful world reprise,in the full show it's done with this beautiful somber sound that puts you on the verge of tears,whereas the jr version in my opinion looses that emotional edge to it
This is kinda how I feel about Beast in BATB JR. Like “If I Can’t Love Her” is the best song in the show and a strong middle school boy is well capable of singing the song.

Hello. When you were talking about adding songs back in, are you allowed to take some out/parts out? Because my director has done that for a couple songs and I am wondering if it is wrong. If it is, what should I do about it? Thanks!
Correct, it also goes against most licensing agreements to remove portions of a song. That being said, it is a strong possibility that your director has gotten permission to do so and are totally in the clear. I wouldn’t take any action on the situation, just trust in your director, it is their call to do the right thing from a legal standpoint.
Doing the jr version now as a junior in hs cause its touring😭 im so grateful but the amount that is cut hurts me😭😭😭 for reference im playing farquaad and not inly is the ballad cut, almost ALL of duloc is given to ensemble🥲🥲

I think letting Shrek narrate is a fun idea, it definitely pays homage to the original film! Congrats on your lead role!

I did Shrek, the musical Junior a couple weeks ago, and I played Peter Pan for a surprise for a junior show. It was very very professional.❤

A lot of them also change the songs that are suppose to be solos to group songs.
