    Today is May 2, 2024
    OMG, the tissues I've 🤧 gone through since I discovered David Draiman and Disturbed performing their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on April 29, 2024. That day I have to believe my spirit 🙏 guides (out of the blue) first led me to a cover video by Dan Vasc singing "Amazing Grace" 👏 and then to the cover video of Disturbed and David Draiman singing this most POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL 😂rendition of Simon and Garfunkels "The Sound of Silence". I'm 75 and was 15 when they released one of the most popular classic songs of our time during the 60's. It is amazing how relevant it is today, actually I feel it is even more relevant than ever in so many different ways. I've spent days since listening and seeing the many channels and each of their reactions and have 😢 almost every time. It's funny that more males have gotten teary-eyed than females, just an observation. Diane Davis

    The amazing thing about this cover of 'Sound of Silence' is one long, slow crescendo. It sounds simple, but try to think of the last time you heard a singer actually use vocal dynamics.

    If you consider Simon and Garfunkel wrote this when the fear the TV was becoming the electronic baby sitter and people quit talking at the dinner table and ate in front tv and we began losing touch with each other. It was their prophecy in a way. Today no one talks to each other, lives are spent with an electronic box in their hand and walk around with heads down, social interaction is all but gone. Disturbed's version is singing about the fulfillment of the prophecy.

    Paul Simon's lyrics... sadly timeless.. Someone has commented "Simon and Garfunkel were warning us, Disturbed is pissed we didn't listen"..

    Simon & Garfunkle's version was the 'Folk Song' version. It has now come of age!!

    David has major talent, great range and awesome control. He can go from baritone to angelic tenor, to rasp/distortion and back on a dime....which is not easy to do. Loved your reaction J-Carts.

    It's all about the WORDS!.., WE ARE living in this WORLD right now, BUT it has NOTHING to do with the MUSIC (which is beautiful)!

    I never get tired of hearing David’s voice it’s a tre demanding sound that he thinks that it makes you want to listen. I love when he gets into that angry part. He just shows so much control in his voice I listen to the song over and over and I never get tired of it. God bless you David and your group. I wish you could come on TV and sing this song someday.

    When Simon & Garfunkel wrote this song, it was about the Veterans experiences after the war was over & how it affected them. Examples: "Because a vision softly creeping, left it's seeds while I was sleeping...." "In restless dreams I walk alone, narrow streets of cobblestone." And the words go on to tell you what he saw in his dreams. Now Disturbs version may mean something different. If you watch Disturbs video, I look at their meaning as no communication between the musicians and the music composers. They are separated & must find away to reach each other so the people who are talking without speaking & the people hearing without listening can come together & combine the musicians with the composers which will create sound so it's not silent anymore. At the end of the video you see the musicians on one side of the river & the composers on the other side. Finally the musicians uses a boat to get to the other side to join the composers. My view...just saying.

      Nope. S & G were referring to television taking over people's lives.

    • @joanne2196
      @joanne2196 Рік тому

      @@pickle581 Actually, after further investigation...the song wasn't written for any particular event that was happening around that time. The "inability to communicate" was happening in everything. Assassination, war, protests, radio, tv, media etc... With the lack of communication, it's sad to see what is happening to the world :(

  • @afterburn123456
    @afterburn123456 Рік тому +3

    Garfunkel, introducing the song at a live performance summed up the song's meaning as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other."

    I love watching you young kids enjoying this song!! Back in the ‘60’s when Viet Nam started and we revolted and protested the draft, this song was so famous! But this remade version can not be topped!! Love it!!

    2nd time today I've seen this song on here. 2nd time I've still gotten goosebumps in the last verse. I've heard this song (this version and the live from conan) more times than I could guess, but it is counted by hundreds.

    Drummer Mike Wengren apparently was the band member who insisted the stick to the somber motif musically, rather than up-tempo rocked-up version, to better honour the original poetry. That to me, is a beautiful piece of rhythm.

    In my mind... Simon and Garfunkel back in the 60s warned us about all technology and what it could do to our society...little did they know about what would come. We are so into our phones and the media is filling the air with so much nonsense, that we stop listening to each other or/and have meaningful conversations. Disturbeds version is more angry...more why aren't we listening to the warning.

    I believe that the meaning of this song is about this silence from the German people when the nazis were killing millions of noncombatants. The original writers and David are Jewish and seem to put extreme emotion into their performances. This is not to say that other religious groups were not moved by the atrocities.

    • @unknownrider3071

      This song is pure 1960's counterculture. Art Garfunkel said the song's meaning was ""the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other."

    What is wrong with you, why babble a pile of crap while destroying this piece of perfection. Close your mouth start the song and LISTEN don’t give us your opinion until the song is ended all the way. What is it with you people that feel your dribble is more important that the message David is giving us. I was around when the original was first sung and let me tell you this is so much better it is beyond belief. Just try once to allow the full meaning come to you.
