It's always fun researching this stuff, lot's of talented builders out there. So what is your favorite engine? Also I will try to narrate a little less and show more engine running next time.
I enjoyed the video. However to call that a mini F-35 engine because it has an afterburner isn’t entirely accurate lol. But I think you know that. Lol again good video.
This is mechanical art of a very high class, the construction time shows how highly specialized this is.
That Napier Deltic looks fantastic , based on the 18/7 A that I worked on back in the eighties. It was fitted to the British minesweepers,Truly stunning feet of engineering.
It's like finding gold if you ever find one running!
It's even more amazing to see such engines in person. If you get a chance, go to some show that has them. They are even better in person. Also, you will see an entire range of things small to large, simple to complex. They are called things like "Model Engineering Shows" with "Cabin Fever" perhaps being one of the most famous in the U.S.
I'm really amazed with the skills of crafters who mades these beautifull machines !
That Napier!
When told to 'get a hobby' that guy went off the charts and never looked back.
DAYUM!!
Creators are a genius
I admire people that can build these engines. It's amazing!
Travail d’Ingénieur ! Mille Bravos !
The Auto Union V-16 was weird in that as an OHC engine it used pushrods for the exhaust valves.
Some you missed are the H-24 Roll Royce Eagle, the H-16 Nsiper Dagger and the 1/4 scale Offy built in the 70s
I'm still not getting credit for making the castings that were used to build the quarter-scale Merlin. It's rather irritating. My company was called Dynamotive, and I sold many sets of castings (not a hundred, but more than fifty). The project was so complicated that only a few were built - so there are a whole lot of casting sets out there.. In Terry Mayhugh's build blog, he says he bought the castings. But somehow, when someone sees the finished engine, that fact gets lost. - Richard Maheu (pronounced the same as Mayhugh)
Thanks for your work, is their a website or any sources I can link to?
Seriously, the auto industry needs to hire these guys and BUILD what they've design in homebuilts that actually work.
Would be nice to hear them though...
Great job!
nice piece, I wish however that you would have had audio tracks on as many of them as were available, and let those tracks you did have run longer.
Verry nice videos.
Should have said something about the dude that built the engine at 0:01. He's a madman.
You missed some classics! Go back to 1936 gold medal winner of London model engineering exhibition the18 cylinder double Bank radial made on a treadle lathe by Gerald Smith. In the early 80's Barry Hares completed a 1/5 scale running merlin. This was a true copy of the full size merlin which even had working magnetos. As fabulous as the merlin you feature is, it's simplified internally from the full size. Barry Hares again about 15 yrs ago with Rolls Royce Eagle. Mike Sayers 1/3 scale supercharged Bentley is another. Lew Blackmore in Australia made a beautiful Bentley 9 cyl rotary (and published a book on how to do so). There are quite a few super talented builders, top 10 is a hard choice!
Should be classified as a work of art.
Very interesting
The paper engine is basically a duct fan wich housing looks like a 4 stroke, so do we consider it as top ten?
I've never seen the BF 109 engine in replica, always the Merlin engine. The BF 109 was an outstanding engine as well.
You are right, even in full scale licensed japanese and italian replicas wasn't so perfect like german ones, it seems to me that german engines - as Db or Junkers engines - are really difficult to build even with modern 3 axis machines.
It's actually a Daimler-Benz 601
@@kkteutsch6416 no
No doubt very skilled engineering, but if you check out Barry Hines's 1/4 scale Rolls Royce Merlin, then you will gasp at this mans achievement. 😉👍👌
The sound if the engines are important
Impressive
If you like the miniature stuff, you might care to look at Find Hansen's work. He is the jeweller of the diesel world:

these will be the blunderbusses of the future... everyone will love their look and the noise... but no one will actually use one for anything but demonstrations.
Amazing stuff, but Running on fuel is an order of magnitude more impressive than one that just pretends to run (air). I've the plans for the 18cyl radial and is on my build list along with an offy engine designed by Ron.
If I had the talent to build a small, detailed running engine I would build my own one of a kind full size engine and put it in a car
lol yeah
Should would coulda!
There used to be kits for building engines
There used to be really good ones a few years ago. Most new ones are mini engines.
Shit up dude! Let’s hear the engines run
That one with the pennies is way out of balance ! 🤣
I'm undecided as to what this voice belongs to. Human or robot. Would've been nice to HEAR them run.
Quá hay
I followed the Napier build years ago and it was reportedly plagued with overheating issues. A 55-gallon barrel of Ice water could keep it runnin awhile with proper plumbing.
Wow
I ❤ it
Hearing them would have been nice
I will try to show every one running next time, I wasn't sure about adding the first two. I just narrate to keep it under fair use but it was probably a little too much. Thanks for the feedback.
@@Tech_Planet 06MAY2021 - My Apologies, I didn't mean to sound harsh or unappreciative. I know it's a big job to edit and post and people are quick to criticize. Perhaps a note at the beginning or in the comments might prevent future misunderstandings. I'm just an old mechanic and would love to experience the full effect of these wonderful creations. Again, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. I will delete my comment. Keep up the good work.
I should've taken metal shop
I hope rolls Royce appreciate the merlin model 👌👍👍
Is there a. V8 powered wrist watch out there. ….. lol
Kein Motor kann 10 Minuten Vollgas aushalten , also ins Museum und ruhig sein !
.... At what point do we stop calling these "model engines" and just call them actual custom built engines? 😂
You got permission from everyone to post these, right?
Hello?Am i early?am i gonna be drowned in comments?HELLO????
Hi, I don't think so? I try to cover every comment in new videos.
JUST !! ENLARGE !! IT !! NOW !! AND !! PUT !! THAT !! IN !! YOUR !! CAR !! NUMBER SIX !! ( MAD !! MAX !! )
"It runs on air."
Then it's not an engine.
😎
I want the engine sound to work. fool
I'm poor boy in florida if someone would send or send me a small lathe I would have my dream I promise I'll make small nitro engines and hopefully get pateryon to sponser me i use to take lawn engines at 9 years old and advanced the cam shaft just wanted to say help me ill help u thanks
Hey hears a thought. How about get to hear the motors instead of your mouth
Too much blabla, not enough engine sound!
Great video but ads ads ads ads ads!!!!
the guy spoke all the way.. shut up and let us hear the engine.
Bro, missed the point. Engines sound and not your voice. Keep short.
die hälfte ist quatsch.
Spoilt by narration.
It assumes the viewer is dumb.
I never heard the Cirrus or the V-16, I only heard annoying commentary. Thumbs DOWN.
Far too much talking, not enough engine noise....
Your video sucks. Can't hear the engines!
