I think your mistake was to 4:1 for that second city before getting the settlement in the port. You were only keeping 4 cards in hand, one of them being the valuable brick. Also your wool production increased a lot and you had no port to trade it, risking getting 7d out more often. That might have cost you the game in my opinion

Fought hard towards the end, so that was enjoyable! Though first city probably should’ve been on 5/6/9 for better production / city scaling. Then you block the 8 ore instead of the 10 wheat for the same reason. Two 8’s rolled and both black and yellow were able to city rather quickly to raise their production and then you were unable to fend off both. Just some things I thought, but by no means the only way.
I feel like the first city should have been on the insane 569 production. Much less likely to get blocked as you still have access to everything, putting your city on wheat made that a prime target
He was still going to get blocked in the 8 wheat, since all the wool and ore was useless without the 8. Placing the first city on the wool would've unbalanced his production, and produce a ton of wool he wouldn't had been able to port other than 4:1, that is if he didn't 7 out
I disagree, the high sheep production would be dead in his hand and he'd have to 4:1 it, probably for wheat. He may be trading one or two sheep, but people don't want that much sheep so early in general. If he had a city on the sheep, people wouldn't do 1:1 for the sheep anyways cause they know they can get more out of him. If he had a 3:1 port already, that would change everything of course.
He ended up getting the 2nd city before the port anyway, but perhaps that was the real misplay

Semi Finals is still a 'Finals' round. He didn't state grand finals in title, seems fine to me

I wonder why you went for the 348 spot over the 3810 double wheat, road to right. It would give you 48 or 3411 as potential expansion spots and it blocks the 810 expansion of yellow. Black could go onto the 48 but right now he also could do the 810 which is just as good imo. There's more ore than wheat in this board, so I'd value the wheat higher. Of course I'd expect red to go on the 3611 instead of 4511.
I thought the same thing, 3810 right for either the 48 or the 3411 if someone takes the 48.
You could have used your road building to limit their longest road length which would have made it almost impossible for them to take
It wouldn't have worked. Even if he went down with the road building, yellow could've connected around desert for maximum 11 roads. Red is also capped at 11. If yellow ever overtakes red they win.
The only road that white could prevent yellow from building is along the 8. And Yellow can then build that road south along the desert instead.

Hey DyLighted, I watch all your videos. I like how you explain your placement choices really well, could you also explain why you point your first roads where you do? Sometimes I have no idea why you point in some directions. Like with decent double sheep, why not point to brick and sheep port?
Black was already 1 road from that port, and Dylan would be at best 2 roads away while not producing brick. Getting there before Black just wasn't a realistic option, as the amount you'd need to trade would slow down his cities and dev cards.
The 3:1 was closer, uncontested by anyone and required less rare resources. It's also more flexible, working with his Wood/Wheat/Ore too.
I think the trade at 9:07 was bad and maybe gave yellow an advantage in the game because you gave him a city and you didn't have a sheep to settle after you got the brick.
You could've 4 for 1 your wood to get a brick or traded with black or red or stole it from someone.

I don't know if I have ever seen you play anything but some sort of OWS setup. Still love the content but I'd love to see you try something new. Why I like the videos with Drew and you. He makes you think outside of your safe OWS bubble.

Yellow should of settled on the 10/8 instead of taking the ore power. The ore port would of still been open. I’m top of that it would maximize a much more efficient port

Is it bm at the end when yellow says “I don’t have the win in hand”? Is it better to not say anything at that point or is it usually not frowned upon to table talk when you’re that close to the win?

Why didn't you mono one of the road resources to prevent yellow from taking road? Were you assuming it wouldn't have mattered because he would get whatever you took back with rolls?

Your mistake was not blocking yellow with the road builder - it did nothing for you otherwise

Your mistake was not building that port when you had the resources for them. And also you had to run for a second settelement after those dev cards. That 10-9 brick sheep was getting your much value

blocking black didnt make sense especially the solo 10 block, yellow had wheat port and coordinated 8. thats why extortion and robbing for what you need isnt always the best play
i cant wait for someone to make the alpha go of Catan and practice by getting beaten by it hundreds of times
This game felt like colluding. And yellow still pulled it off because he has the best set up. I think you gravitate toward O/W/S too quickly

The first city should have been the 569, it would make the 8 Wheat a far less obvious block. Also, you should have gone for the 2nd city before going all in on cards too soon.
He needed the cards because the 8 wheat is such a strong block.
Dev cards are game deciders not the production.
You need the production to buy dev cards once you have the production you need to pop to win the game the other cities are only their if their is no faster win acquired with the dev cards.

10:30 Dylan for the love of god please stop focusing on cities. THREE games in a row u don't get the port! just settle. brick is super rare for u use it, u can city at any point with ur set up
it was def a consideration, but citying isn't bad either, since his main objective is to pop, and he doesn't need a necessarily need a port for that since he's on mainly ows
