      Ask your parents to pick you up a junkyard 5.3 to practice with or save your allowance/earned money. An engine stand is $50 at Harbor Freight. There are so many resources available online that will help you do this right. You will never regret this. Best of luck!

    Maybe I missed it because, as you said, the video was sped up, but it looked like you didn’t check the crankshaft end play or the piston ring gap with the rings inside the bores. Are those not standard procedures on LS engines like they are on the previous generation?

    • @RegulerShowTV
      @RegulerShowTV 3 роки тому +1

      Nah you should always check no matter if it says it’s pregapped or not. Same with crank end play. I’m just super thorough personally so I would have to know these tolerances to sleep better at night. Couldn’t just skip.

    I’m building mine right now, did you happen to smack the the crank front to back and back to front with a deadblow, it’s supposed to seat the thrust bearing. And then check for endplay?
    When I took mine apart it had close to 300000 miles on it. The main and rod bearings had virtually no wear. I decided to use new bearings and rings.
    I just installed the crank , measuring before hand with plastiguage. My readings were.002” on all the mains. But when I did the torque sequence I hit the crankshaft back to front and front to back. So I’m going to have to loosen the bolts and do it again and then check for endplay

    Putting a cheater pipe on a torque wrench completely nullifies what the torque wrench was made for.

    • @StreetRodJim
      @StreetRodJim  4 роки тому +4

      Still clicks at specified torque. Easier on the shoulders.

    • @terrain1058
      @terrain1058 4 роки тому +2

      How? The head of the wrench still measures the correct torque weather the pole is 1foot or 6foot long.

    • @nickhale117
      @nickhale117 4 роки тому +1

      The cheater pipe wasn't used to get a specific ft/lb torque number. Those bolts are set to a specific degree of angle after torquing to the specified ft/lb and he used the cheater pipe to help get him to that angle.

  • @tompkib
    @tompkib 3 роки тому +1

    Awesome video
    Keep in mind that torque is F x D, if u add the cheater bar u changed the torque.

    • @jacksonsgarage510
      @jacksonsgarage510 3 роки тому +1

      That rule is for applying torque. You can apply more torque using the same amount of force if you use a cheater bar, but using less force and more distance is the same as using more force and no cheater bar. And with torque wrenches, the torque reading comes from the head of the wrench, so the readings would not be affected.

    • @tompkib
      @tompkib 3 роки тому

      @@jacksonsgarage510 , u can’t know how much force you are applying, and you wouldn’t need the cheater bar if you could apply the right torque. They are sized for the torque range.

    • @jacksonsgarage510
      @jacksonsgarage510 3 роки тому +2

      @@tompkib correct, you don’t know how much force you are applying, which is why you have a torque wrench... If you set a torque wrench at 50 ft. lbs and hold it halfway down the handle, then push it til it clicks, will it be torqued at 50 ft. lbs or at 25? And if you keep the setting at 50 ft. lbs and hold it a quarter of the way down the handle, then push it til it clicks, will it be torqued at 50 ft. lbs or 12.5?

    • @tompkib
      @tompkib 3 роки тому

      @@jacksonsgarage510 so based on your answers you have never checked calibrations of torque wrenches, correct? If you have then you would know that if you don’t use the proper technique, you could be off by 5 + / - ftlbs. Adding or subtracting the fulcrum will not give you whatever you have the wrench set for. In other words the end will break at say 50ftlbs, but that’s not what the bolt will see, or what is applied. There are special torque wrenches that come with extensions for on purpose to allow extra force.

    • @jacksonsgarage510
      @jacksonsgarage510 3 роки тому +2

      @@tompkib this is primitive physics, I don’t know why this conversation is still going lol. Also I don’t believe you know what a fulcrum is. The whole purpose for adding an extension is so that you are able to apply less force to the lever arm, allowing you to achieve the same reading on the pivot point that you would have achieved if you didn’t have one, except that it is easier to get to that reading. This is especially helpful when you are torquing multiple things in quick concession at increasing torque values (like he is doing in the video, wild).
