Yes, screw it, everybody do it. And throw on some Slayer while we're at it
You are a great teacher. Well explained and demonstrated. So far I've been a bit frightened to drill stones. After watching you I'm going to give it a go. Thank you. 😊
This is the most simple yet most informative video about drilling crystals that you tube has to offer , thank you so much .

Such a great video I have a table top drill and saw both water cooled. They were my mother's She went to school when I was young. I grew up watching her and learning. I love that hand held drill you have. I live on a cliff side. 1 day while weeding I found what looked like geode I was thrilled when I opened it up. I've been doing wire wrapping to make my pendants, I'm so glad I found your video. Thank you for sharing
A video that shows exactly what to do, with all the 'whys' behind the actions, and questions below that actually were answered instead of either being ignored or given a 'mechanical' or rote answer. I learned from both sections here because you took the time to give a darn. Thank you!
And it's because of this that I subscribed! :)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. I love being able to share what I have learned over the years.

Maestro 🎉🎉❤❤
Thank you for showing such easy process.
Hello what about if I wanna drill in the side to make a ring will I go by the same process? Thank u in advance 😊
Great instruction. Greater instructor.
I just did this with petrified wood. i soak the stones in water and dish soap, scrubbed them, then soaked until i drilled. The soapy water worked very well.
Soaps / detergents will only screw up your tools and burs you should never use soaps while grinding with diamond bits even " liquid" ones all you need is just plain room temperature water not too cold and deffinatly not to warm ...also I dont suggest " "soaking" semipermable stones prior to grinding or carving due to it causing the higher probability of cleaving or fracturing the stone in question you only need to wet the surface area mainly to protect the diamond bit/ burr so it does not lose its cutting ability and to keep the stone cool so as not to change its temper / color ect
Excellent video...I am excited to get my jewellery drill!
Go for it!
Thank you for sharing your expertise. So perfectly helpful and succinct. You are awesome and I love your hair!

Thank you.
Thank you!!
Love your tools.
Thank you for this video
This video is so great but these rocks dont seem to be tumbled. When working with smooth stones, is there a different method to use?
The cap pin being are there other adhesive that will work as well
What tools would you recommend for a newbie like myself Shawn? Thanks. I like drill you're using...
A dremel with a " snake" dremel accessory include many diffrent diamond bits and burrs and are fairly inexpensive ...proper care and pressure are honestly key factors you should never ever ever risk " dry" grinding any stone ever with a diamond bit / burr...its very easy to set up a small jeweler's vice and an aquarium pump to both hold a stone at a precise angle and keep the stone cool and lubricated ....this guy does not remotly pratice proper safty as the stone could chip or shatter with the way he is holding it and the forcefulness he is using ...
Thank you for this!
thanks for sharing
Shawn, how can I drill holes in garnet chips ? I really need your expertise, I have thousands. Thank you kindly
What is the best depth to drill into the tourmaline? is it based on the weight of the tourmaline vs the length of the post to secure it?
Love this.... where did you get your diamond point bits from?
This was a great video, so informative 👏🏾
Glad it was helpful!
What a great teacher. This was refreshing to watch. What kind of drill bit should I use?
The standard drill bit for drilling the small initial hole needed prior to burring for setting stones is referred to as a “twist” drill. The size depends on the stone size being set but is usually 1-1.5mm and is obtainable from any jewelry supply company and even your local hardware or home supply store may carry them.
ty for vid! very helpful
So helpful, thank you! Does anyone know what kind of 5 minute epoxy is being used?
U r a great teacher ☆.
LOVE IT!!!!! Thank you i want to do this so much!
Great!!! Thank you for sharing
Hey! Glad to see you're on UA-cam!!
Thanks for this video because I have lots of stones that I polished. My favorite is Tiger Eye will that survive this process??
Thank you master 💯✌️☀️
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Some stones take a lot longer to drill, like emerald, you need patience
great video i loved it
Hi Shawn. Would like advice on how to thread tap a small Obsidian mantra bead that already has string holes all the way through the bead but needs a thread tap for 3.5mm. The bead is 12.1mmx8.1mm in size. The bead will be screwed onto a toggle switch as a DIY handle. The threaded part of the switch is 4.1mm in length by 3.5mm in diameter. Can this be done? Thank you.
thank you helpful information
Nice video 👍🏼👍🏼
Super stone
Hey! I was wondering what that drill bit is specifically (if you have a link fot it?) Also wondering where you get your gems/crystals? Do you know of any wholesalers?
Thank you for the video!
I’m not sure about them but there are a lot of groups on Facebook that auction off stones, sometimes in bulk. My mom has built her entire shop from doing that and getting to know miners, collectors and sellers.
Oh my gosh Thank you somuch i gona do it Shuichi Nishina
Japan
Can I use the diamond drill bits from the rotary tools for drilling obsidian?
I am trying to find the finding you used on that tourmaline does it have a specific name
It's a threaded loop finding
can anyone suggest a good drill and bits for this? I'm interested in making raw stone and polished stone jewelry and I don't want to get something that won't work
Hi Samantha! Flexshaft for a hand-piece that will last decades and can get many accessories for it is the Foredom Flexshaft. It is available from many sources on line as well as sintered Diamond drill bits. Rio Grande and Stuller are quality product companies from my experience. Shawn
Lover So much Super Gill🤑
Hey shawn nice video, what kind of drill are you using?
I'm using a flex shaft drill, Alexis. Thank you for asking!
@@gemcollectorswithshawnlgem4613 Thank you!
🙏 amazing
Great video I appreciate keeping it simply, Thank you . What size is the drill bit? What is the name of the epoxy?
A 2-part Epoxy is easy to use, whether it's the 5-minute Epoxy or the hours-longer one,. Simply push out approximately a half inch of glue from each tube onto a piece of paper or cardboard. Then, using anything disposable such as a toothpick, a clean twig, a Popsicle stick, or the non-cotton end of a Q-Tip as your 'mixing stick', mix the two glue ingredients together. That's all there is to it. If you need more glue for a larger project, just push out more glue from each tube. Or push less glue out of each tube for a smaller project.
Dear Jessica, may I ask how we can get the glue inside the hole please?
It’s such a small hole for the finding cap pin, I’m kinda stuck with how to choose a good way to get the epoxy pushed inside the hole.
Any recommendations please Ma’am?
Thank you.
Best regards,
Alex.
@@Jesse-tc1gz thanks for a nice vedio ! can you send any link or photos for this glue?thanks alot!
What is the brand of your favorite adhesive for this type of finding drilled into Amethyst?
Thank you! Very beautiful and informative video. I am ordering a stone from Etsy and I asked the owner to make a hole in it. He asked me in mm how big I wanted the hole to be. I thought tha 2mm is enough so that I can put a leather cord to it to wear it as a pendant. The stone is indigo Gabbro. What do you think, Shawn? I think it will work. Thank you.
Awesome video, ty!! Can you use a jeweler's saw to cut a piece of quarts down if it's "too long"?
THIS GUY IS A TRIP LOL. THE WAY HE TALK LOL "AND YOUUUUU CAN DOOOO...."
"I'm gonna drill this one right in the water..."
*_drills it not in the water_*
What drill is this?? Thank you
What if I received a piece that I want to change eye pin color on?? How do I go about removing the existing pin without breaking the stone?
