I am 6 days into recovery after this exact surgery. I was having trouble accepting sitting still for 4-6 weeks. My son is a Nurse and sent me this video so I could really understand the complexity of what I was healing internally. IT WORKED! I was shocked at one commenter who lost a parent from an untreated situation. Thank God for Sergeons and Modern Medicine. I want to enjoy my grandchildren. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO, CONTRIBUTER!

@@franhar8292 I am young and healthy so your experience may be different- though my oesophagus has always been very sensitive. I'm on day 11 since surgery. Day 1 and 2 were very painful and couldn't really walk, was just there in hospital. Couldn't walk upright, and only in tiny bursts. Insisted on being discharged quickly on day 2, maybe too early. Needed strong painkillers first 5 days. Day 8 onwards virtually pain free. Day 10, yesterday, was able to jog for 10 mins no problem and can walk very comfortably. No reflux at all now very glad to have had this. I have occasional discomfort with swallowing air.. and im still stuck on liquid diet/soft foods but it's early days still.
Choose an excellent surgeon who's done this very procedure countless times, it's what I did. I know from past experience that even in the exact same procedure, the surgeon itself can make a world of difference.

I got this done 3-1/2 weeks ago. Everything has worked out for me. The diet sucks it is doable, but I get why you must follow it.
I was extra gassy and my insides would hurt if I strained myself or stretched too much. Which is normal. Now, I’m less gassy and starting to explore on my eating. I do get full faster than before.
No other pain involved and didn’t have to take any pain medications. Acid reflux is not present at all, even when im laying completely flat on my back. I haven’t slept like that in 9 years.
3-1/2 weeks in and I feel great. I know I can handle soft breads and steaks now but I’m still giving it at least one more week. But I have had no problem with chicken, ground beef, and acidic ingredients so far.
So far I can say this has been a successful procedure. Great to not feel any GERD symptoms at all since the procedure.

My mother died from a strangulated stomach, due to a massive hiatel hernia. I just had surgery for my very large hiatel hernia, and according to the surgeon my entire stomach was above my diaphragm. The surgeon used a Toupet wrap.

@@Theroguemanofficial , thank you. My mother passed away over six years ago at 83y.o.
My surgeon suggested that hiatel hernia can run in families. Both parents had hiatel hernias.
Being 69y.o now the recovery has slow but steady. I kinda wish the surgeon had used the Nissen procedure. He did say the Toupet procedure was just as successful and the primary procedure nowadays.

@@baboom1235 for years I battled heart burn and regurgitation. A few months before the surgery I experienced much discomfort, chest pain, shortness of breath, etc. After surgery, phew! The recovery has been slow. I have no regrets however. No more heart burn, no more having a sneezing fit after eating, blood pressure is normal now and so is my blood sugar. I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

I just had this procedure done last Tuesday the 24th. Short term I'm not reasonably happy with the decision. Only a week!
However, recovery thus far has been painful spiritually, physically mentally etc.... My last endoscopy back in July of 23 showed tissue sample tested positive for barret esophagus. My BMI was about 27.2 middle of September.
On a sidenote I've been blowing gas like never before supreme 93 if u will. I don't wanna say yet if I unreasonably regret the choice.
Ppis off and on for 2 years, constant suppression of acid isn't good. If you're scared, just trust you're not alone. Medication had its limitations for me maybe a surgical demonstration of a FUNdoplication will lead me to a better situation. Praise the LaWd the procedure was covered. (As far as I know).
I'll give update in a month or so if I come across this content again. Life really is Short!! God Speed
