Nononoono you missed an essential point of Silco going to Vander's statue.
Silco realizes that he is in the exact same position as vander was. Back then silco called Vander weak, and now he realized he can't do it either.
Vander couldn't start a war and he couldn't sacrifice vi for peace. Silco hated him for that. And now, years later, jinx became his surogate daughter and he has to do the exact same thing too, and he realizes that he can't do it, the same way Vander couldn't.
It's so poetic and sad. Makes you rly feel for silco. Not only does he know he is fucked, but he also knows he treated Vander wrong.
Rio isn't dead yet. Singed for sure had a daughter. And I think his research stems from grief. It also leads me to believe he creates orianna later.

Read the lore of Orianna. It doesn't connect completely with Singed. Orianna even gave in her lore Corin(the name of her father) her heart so he wouldn't die. Ofcourse you can still change your name but if everything is on timeline Orianna is already there

I actually got out of the Act thinking Sevika was Singed's daughter, since she mentioned she had a troubled relationship with her own father when talking with Silco about Jinx, and after Singed mentions he had a daughter when talking to Silco, it cuts to her. Might be wrong, but it just felt like hints for it.

When we saw Viktor's childhood, we saw the scene where he made a toy boat and set it on a stream where he fell while trying to limp and keep up with the boat. I get the impression Necrit has a really bad perception of mental illness. All his coverage of the series, both trailers and episodes. He is convinced, insistent, that jinx is “crazy” and that her madness has to have a “cause”.
Despite how the show I think has an overall positive take on it. Jinx isn’t crazy, she is troubled, unwell. But her violent tendencies aren’t the result of some crazy juice. It’s a result of her whole life. It’s a complex issue and she’s a complex character. All the shimmer did was make her strong enough to kidnap everyone.
“Jinx was made crazy by singed” is such a bad take. On every level.

  • @logjenn97
    @logjenn97 2 роки тому +1842

necrit can say what he wants about the retconning of lore. if he just starts viewing the LCU as completely separate from the game lore, he'd have a better time.
hell, I bet the game lore gets retconned right along side the shows/movies.

    • @Sage_6reen
      @Sage_6reen 2 роки тому +37

It does feel weird to retcon all your game lore, then set up a card game that's supposed to flesh out the world etc, and then retcon even some of the stuff you've put there. Runeterra is a massive world with so many stories and if theyre gonna do multiverse stuff or what if stories then that's cool but it makes it hard to establish continuity and a clear story if you don't specify that and act like everything lines up. I personally like all the retcons, I feel like they've been true to the characters. (except maybe Warwick. This story is definitely better but damn rip to a real one) and kept the core points of their stories but it's weird to open LoL and get one story line, open Lor and get a second, and now Arcane is giving a third

The psychological damage she went through growing up plus the torture of singed's operations without any class of anesthesia "obviously", undoubtedly made Jinx the full psycho she is, even when she fought Ekko she was still slightly sane and you could see a glimpse of Powder in her eyes, now she just fully embraced her pain and lost any trace of Powder that was left (tho it's kind of a personal opinion I might not be spot on)

The scene where Sevika didn't betray Silco felt so important to me. Silco knew that he had almost been betrayed and killed by his right hand woman, you can see by his eyes and his body language that he did not fully expect to live in that encounter. That was a scene that started the turnaround of Silco's character for me: from an evil, albeit logical and reasonable, villain, to a more human and likeable character.

It also makes his decision not to turn Jinx in in exchange for independence more complicated.
If Sevika finds out that Jayce offered a more than acceptable terms for Zaun's independence and the only thing Zaun has to do is get rid of the 'problem' a.k.a Jinx, she's gonna be pissed and she might depose/kill Silco, take over the Undercity and then accept Jayce's proposal. And Silco knows that.
Sevika already made it clear that if someone better comes along, someone who would do a better job than Silco in fighting for Zaun, she would not hesitate to betray him.

I don't know what the general reaction was but I for one was super happy when Silco died. He was a really good character for sure, but was not redeemed one bit imo (nor should he have been honestly).
He died telling jinx that 'she was perfect', which sounds like a positive fatherly sentiment (almost redeeming in some sense) until you step a bit back and try to put it in context. At that point Jinx was obviously over the top crazy (delusional even) AND MISERABLE as well. He was not looking out for jinx or he would have fought to help her mental health (not just in that sceen but also the years before), instead he was actively trying to push her towards the edge as if making jinx into a crazy monster was a personal project of his.
This is something that did not really feel right btw, Silco seemed like a very rational and grounded character most of the time, yet somehow he acted as if jinx's behaviour was not a problem? Jinx's mental state was hurting everyone, including Jinx and also Silco's operations, yet he was clearly encouraging the carziness for some reason. It's not a major complaint, I understand that they did not have time to flash out this part of their relation ship (basically we only learn how Silco was raising Jinx from characters discussing the past, not much of this is shown to us). But it still leaves Silco in a position where a lot of his actions are somewhat justifiable, but over all he was a malicous and borderline insane villain, mainly because of the suffering he unnecessarily (!) inflicts on Jinx and everyone around her.
His other dealings (his campaign against the topside, including the death of vander and threatening Marcus' family) were all in the gray area where some might even agree or sympathise with him. And I honestly like it this way, outside of fantasy stuff (like the void and ruination in the League universe) there aren't any true villains on the scale of nations (it all comes down to a matter of perspective). But there are villains on the level of the individuals. And Silco was definietly of that latter chategory, fuck that guy

@@Mazsi1201 I agree that Silco definitely was not a redeemed character at the end of the season, however I do believe that when all was said and done he genuinely cared about Jinx as a father. The final scenes with Silco and Vi at opposite ends of the dinner table really emphasized the separation of Jinx and Powder, with Jinx going back and forth between her identities as either character, ultimately deciding to take up the identity of Jinx. I think at the at the end of the day Silco did not love Powder, but loved Jinx, which explains why he disregards the mental state of Powder and seemed to encourage the behaviors that made her into Jinx. He was also willing to give up absolutely everything he has worked for, passing up the opportunity of bringing everything he has dreamed of into reality for the sake of Jinx. I don't think this is something he would do if Jinx was simply a 'personal project'.

Seeing powder go from Powder to Jinx over the course of nine episodes was amazing. And what's more is how beautifully handled it was.
It's even more well done than Anakin to Vader and Joaquin's Joker from Arthur to Joker.
A masterpiece. Powders change happened in stages and each stage was more intense than the last.
There will be those that say Jinx was born during her time with Silco or when she got off that operating table. But for me Jinx was officially created when she sat down in her chair.
Also really neat detail. If you look in the end credits it reads
    "Ella Purnell. Powder."
It's like this up until episode nine when it reads
    "Ella Purnell. Jinx"
Meaning that up until episode nine. Powder was still alive. She was still officially listed as POWDER up until the final episode. Episode nine was when Powder officially died.

It's crazy looking back when the series was teased we were thinking oh he's gonna be the one who makes Jinx crazy, and we were right but not entirely. Not to mention the fact that Jinx gets her pink eyes and truly BECOMES Jinx after Silco begged Singed to SAVE HER. He genuinely loved her like his own daughter and it's crushing to see him killed by her accidentally. Especially since he was going to shoot Vi to PROTECT JINX. Silco and Vi genuinely love Jinx and because of the emotional scarring and fighting between them Jinx couldn't take it and killed him in a quick no thought reflex. They made me feel for him even though he's without a doubt one of the villains. He had his goals and convictions and he never once gave up on Jinx he genuinely wanted the best for her and in the end he never was mad at her. God it hurts so much this series!

When Jayce said Silco could have everything he ever wanted but it would cost him Jinx he instantly knew it was a price he wasn't willing to pay. In that moment he finally understood why Vander was willing to give himself up to pay for Vi's actions and we saw Silco try to do the same for Jinx when he instantly tried to take the blame for her actions even though we know she did it of her own accord. The guy hanging at Singed's lab is meant to be Subject 1088 (Warwick) for the Transmutation experiment, and I'm pretty sure Singed had better things to do than experimenting with a *dead* body for more than 10 years, as well as many other and better subjects to test on.

It's not impossible for his beard to go all curly and unruly once that care stops.

Jinx was injected with a more stable version of shimmer, one that didn't cause a severe mutation, but also one that leaves the user with bigger sequels.
Vander drank it, yes, but he drank the first version of the shimmer, and unlike the version Vi, Jinx, and almost all of Zaun received, this one leaves you pretty weakened and almost dead once the effect passes (See Deckart who could barely stand by himself and Singed's lab rat that presumably passed away from Ep. 2 scene). The first version of the shimmer wasn't meant to be used for "medical" purposes, it was a one-time mega steroid that then weakened you, unlike the one we see in Act II.
Leaving that aside, Vander's beard was grey, if you say his beard grew and got curlier because he wasn't dead, alright, that's not how hair grows but I can believe it. Why did it change color then? It's not a light-perspective issue, we can see the colors perfectly and they are dark-brownish, did Singed find a way to make a body go back in age? If so then what an asshole! He used it on a corpse from ~A decade and not on Rio.

From the way they wrote the ending of season 1, they fully intended to make a season 2 from the very beginning so I have a feeling that the writing and story is already completed and they are currently working on the animation and production for it already. Depending on how much they were able to work on while season 1 was delayed we may even see it in 2022 which would be a cool surprise too.

On the contrary, I think Silco was going to kill Vi because he realized how Vi was harming Jinx. Vi not realizing that memories of Mylo, Clagger and Vander were the very things haunting Jinx naively told her to "remember them". So while maybe Jinx did shoot Silco to stop him from killing Vi, it was very much a 'mistake' on her part, since she didn't want to kill him.

Back when Jayce was hopeless and had nothing left, he held in his hand, his rune, his dreams of hextech before almost stepping to his death. But now, it has come full circle with Jayce stopping VIktor's suicide only now, he wields his Hextech Hammer, his dreams finally accomplished, and now he is here for his friend, which wonderfully ties this all full circle.

Silco is my favorite character in Arcane. If you can look at the perspective of being a father, he's literally a great father figure for Jinx. But if you look at him as someone who's manipulative, he's also great in that aspect as well. I love the parallel of Silco and Vander in episode 9. Where Vander doesn't want to give up the kids and the same thing happened to Silco. Such a terrifying villain too. Really complex character and that scene where he doesn't blame Jinx is just sad but also great because she treats Jinx as a real daughter rather than a tool for his own use.

Loved the scene where he talked to Vander's statue especially. Corin replaced EVERYTHING with mechanical parts until just her heart was left, which supposedly caused a huge falling out with him and the Piltover college (it doesn't state that this is the event that caused it, it only implies), and caused Orianna to become distant and near-emotionless. Corin was going to die himself, but Orianna, a gifted builder and physician in her own right, replaced her heart, the last thing about her that was human, with a mechanical one, and gave Corin her real one. I think its both and we do get to see it in the show from her and other characters. With her conversation with her mom we do see that at the end she has decided that she is going to try her best for Piltover. But we cant forget her other actions earlier and how she was brought up and that is where we can understand her a bit more. I think from the beginning of the series we have seen a Mel that was struggling with what her mom had taught her and how she had thought things should be. We learn that her mother had taught her to be a fox to where one must manipulate and control people and we see this from both of them where both women had very similar mannerisms when dealing with Jayce and both instances worked. So we learn that Mel learned to use people from her family which is why Jayce actually snapped her out of it a bit from his passion and innocence. While they had sex she thought it would be just that but he came back to her and was emotionally vulnerable to her which she looks confused by this was when he was sad about viktor and she asked why her. From that scene her and us see that Jayce is pretty naive and that he actually thinks of Mel as a friend instead of a tool or asset which she had seen Jayce as. Think from that point on it reignited her struggle of using people to rise in power and secure oneself. We see her shifts on mentality because this whole time she has been using Jayce to create Hextech so she could benefit from it and from her benefit the upper class of piltover would benefit from it. She even pushes Jayce to make them into weapons which Viktor even questions why they would do that. Believe that was more from what she learned from her family but when she talks with her mom more and more it kind of reminds her of her old self and why she starts saying she doesn't want Piltover to go to war or make weapons when she had from the beginning of the series had Jayce set everything in motion which is why the title of the monsters we create was good because the Piltover upper class and Jayce cause themselves to be attacked and Mels eventual death by the thing she made. Think by the end she had realized where she had gone wrong and had actually hoped that the goodness of people that they could maybe amend the situation but by then just like Vi had said there had been countless bodies from Piltover and this was what she sowed. Overall i think she was most definitely using him but I think she did start caring for him at least like a friend because he even said that I don't care what anyone thinks of him except Mel so by the end she started to see Jayce as a person and someone that she could work with to go back to how she was as a kid and not have to be cutthroat and manipulative in order to make a better place but then she died. Again the Piltover had created the monster that they did.

    • @xZeru001x

So yes she was using him but she was raised like that so her mom actually created that monster and Noxus created her mom to be that way so it is a chain. Mel is a great character and maybe Zaun would have been made better if the council had started giving them resources and working to bettering things but have to accept that Piltover was the one to spill blood and create the many people like Silco, Vander, Jinx and Vi.

Man!, even though I hated Silco, the part where he told jinx that "Don't Cry. You're perfect", really hit me and began to like him more as a good villian in the story. It's like telling her that even though she Jinxes all the things she has done, regardless of the flaws, she will always remain flawless and perfect to him. Throughout the story, powder was an outcast, this is because she was not a fighter like her sister and her friends. That is why she always makes such a concerted effort to impress others, like how she tried to saved her friends even if Vi told her not to come and how she wants to show Silco that she is not weak, demonstrated how she really wants to fit in with them. This is why Silco's dialogue to jinx was really emotional because it shows how genuine father he really is to Jinx and was the only person who really saw her potential and the only one who really believed her despite her imperfections.

I think assuming that the shimmer is responsible for Jinx being crazy takes away from her character. Singed gave Viktor a different strain of Shimmer that appears to have not effected his mind. I assume that he used the same strain on Jinx. Therefore keeping intact the idea that the trauma and guilt is what broke her. Accidently killing Silco is what officially killed Powder and completed Jinx. Not Shimmer. All the shimmer did was enhance her physical capabilities and make her more dangerous. That's how I choose to see it at least

I think the rewriting of the stories is done really well and humanizes the characters. Lots of the characters in league are sort of extravagant and stereotypes in some ways (especially champs that were created in the earlier days of league). I think Arcane makes them more believable, relatable, and shows the way they morph and change into the characters they end up being without the game (such as jayce becoming more and more uncaring about what others think and being hardened by the realities of his world). Also the fact that Warwick is teased at the end means it is still plausible that singed did get his injury from Warwick and the burns are from the shimmer explosion.

The original story of piltover and zaun was very black and white, clearly drawing inspiration from comic books. Hero’s with cool weapons fighting villains with unsymmetrical motivations. I think there is a time and a place for that but it’s not Arcane. If this story does continue I honestly wouldn’t be upset if victor nerves goes full machine and if he does he doesn’t become an antagonist. You missed out on some key points about Silco. Silco even said he can't ever give up Jinx, not even for the nation of Zaun. He realized that immediately and he just couldn't "betray" her like so many have done to her and as he also knows what it feels like to be betrayed like this. So he knew he was in a bad spot so he went to talk to Vander's statue. The worst part of that is, from that point on, Silco's focus shifted to Jinx. He made Jinx into who she is today and he is VERY proud of her, and his dying words to her was "you're perfect". So at the table where they were tied up with Vi and Silco on opposite sides to help Jinx decide the outcome of her identity crisis, Silco was very much fighting for his legacy. He knew that his dream and vision for Zaun could have been achieved if he gave up Jinx, but since he couldn't bring himself to do that, that meant that what was at stake there in that final scene was Jinx becoming Jinx and sitting down on the Jinx chair. If Jinx reclaimed her identity as Powder, that would mean Silco is left with NOTHING for his legacy, and so he knew what he had to do was force Jinx to choose and that's why he picked up the pistol to point at Vi (albeit it could also be Jinx hallucinating that he had a gun due to all the pressure building up in intensity at that moment). Silco was willing to die to make Jinx come to the conclusion that he had, which is that she needed to be Jinx and that she is perfect, his daughter, his perfect creation of rebellion and anarchy against Piltover.
Silco gave his life to cement his only legacy and that was the creation of Jinx, of protecting a girl who felt lost, weak, betrayed, useless and all the same feelings he felt at one point in his life events with Vander, whatever it may have been in the past. He had an insane amount of empathy for Jinx but not in the way of trying to coddle her or make her be at peace with her weakness or lack of effectiveness. Silco's line "We'll show them" is honestly the most emotionally impactful line in the entire show, bar none. It's that "we'll show them" attitude that made Jinx. Some might say it was Vi calling her sister "a jinx" and that's the challenge or problem that sets up the motivation behind "we'll show them". But I would say it's Silco's "We'll show them" that really made Jinx become who and what Jinx represents.
That sentiment of "We'll show them" was Jinx's final tribute to her adoptive parent, Silco, who raised her to rebel against the injustices and inequalities of Piltover and Zaun. Jinx didn't "lash out" at the end at Piltover. Jinx didn't "make a mistake" like she did in episode 3. Jinx fired her rocket at the Council in Piltover, out of LOYALTY for Silco (which is something that was illustrated earlier with Sevika) and for the sentiment of "we'll show them". It was a tribute to her connection with Silco. It is also her first act as a fully realized and fully self accepted Jinx. She knew who she was. She was Jinx, and it wasn't just a label Vi slapped onto her anymore, this was who she chose after Silco's death, to honor the perfection he saw in her, the fact that she no longer felt useless as a person, that she is now feared and respected by everyone, and out of her sense of loyalty to Silco, and the line "we'll show them", she fires the rocket. Which of course makes her even more of a Jinx character because they were ratifying the peace treaty and giving Zaun their independence, which gets shattered by the rocket.
The projected future is ironically that Jinx will likely accomplish the creation of Zaun (likely with the help of others, possibly Warwick and Singed, etc.) and fulfill Silco's true intentions and legacy. Jinx is likely also going to step into the power vaccuum after Silco's death as his successor, and with the way things are going, Jinx will likely be very much against Piltover in an all out war. Professor Heimerdinger and Ekko might make some brilliant efforts to find an alternative solution to the situation in Zaun. Viktor will likely have to put on his suit and go to battle due to the war that is now inevitable. Vi will have a soul crushing choice of having to choose Caitlyn and Piltover over her own sister but as it stands right now, Jinx has chosen to be Jinx and not Powder, so there's no sister left for Vi to really bring back, so she'll likely side with Piltover in the coming conflict, but she'll be a total wreck of emotions because she'll still try to protect Jinx, and her loyalties to Piltover may be challenged or come into question. It might be interesting to see what Noxus does as a response to this war, but at the moment it seems like they are mostly interested in the Hextech to fuel their own military power. With that incentive Noxus might actually step in and interfere in some big way... we might see Vi fighting Darius or some other Noxian general like Swain if it comes to a full intervention, which then could draw in Demacia/Ionia as well.
I felt like the ending was epic... it was so epic that they just faded to black at the end leaving the audience to try to understand just how many layers of Jinxed Jinx actually is. She is now the one that is going to trigger a war and jinx the whole situation between Piltover and Zaun, making peace talks impossible. She might even learn about it and react to that in some way, like she killed Silco twice over, once to his body, and once more to his dream of Zaun's independence, which means she'll be even more dedicated to the cause of freedom and independence for Zaun in a very anarchic and rebellious fashion that is her style but all out of a sense of LOYALTY to Silco. It is also entirely possible she leaves all the politics to other people and she chooses to be a random loose cannon recluse after this. But given how the show has shown Jinx to be actually highly intelligent and know her way around people, she'll more than likely be the new Silco. Vi will have to full on fight Jinx to stop her as she will now have to choose to side with Piltover and Caitlyn as that would be the "right thing to do", and Ekko might be the only hope for Zaun in terms of a "peaceful alternative"... maybe rewinding time for Ekko comes from trying to reverse this act done by Jinx?
Anyways, for me this show was a 10/10, ESPECIALLY for the ending scene. My mind was so blown I was frozen in place with goosebumps for a full minute after the end.
PS. I want to acknowledge one thing here that Riot did right. Silco was a great villain character. He wasn't just a one dimensional bad guy that everyone hates. He was in his own way a parent who formed a deeper bond with his adopted daughter Jinx than even his own dreams and vision for Zaun. He gave up his own dream for Zaun in order to be a good parent to Jinx to help her embrace her own power and her own uniqueness rather than to betray her. Silco, despite being the big villain was a better father to Jinx than Vi was a sister to Jinx and in this way Silco is a very deeply emotionally impactful character and a very well portrayed villain.

I don't think Jinx "accidentally" killed Silco - I doubt she wanted to, but she intentionally did it when Silco picked up the gun to fire on Vi - luckily his shot missed Vi but by that time Jinx had tried to protect her by shooting Silco. What I can't really see though is if Silco just missed or if he missed because of being shot by Jinx - it's hard to see in the sequence of frames whether Jinx's shots hit Silco before he fires or not but you can clearly see jinx realise Silco has pointed a gun at Vi and responds by shooting him.

It's definitely accidental, Vi brought up Jinx's (or rather Powder's) ghosts (monsters) of the past which brought her in a state of confusion and hallucination, and at that moment it was only her and her monsters.
And Silco, wanting to shut up Vi, aimed the gun at Vi and shot, which made him a target to Jinx. If you look at the scene closely, you can see that Jinx, in fact did not look at Silco, but rather reacted to the sound of the gun being cocked.
So rather than shooting to protect Vi, it was more of an instinctual act of self-preservation. I'm sure that had it been Vi who cocked the gun at that moment, Jinx would have shot her instead.
Also, Silco definitely shot first, what I can't tell is if he shot as a warning or if he truly missed.

    I love these writers.

Mel really won me over in act 3. She's a master manipulator because she'd rather get what she thinks is best without violence, and that's why she was abandoned. She keeps herself distant from people but when push comes to shove she does care about others and refused to bury heart heart completely.
I hope and pray she lives, let the gold tattoos be some sort of magic or metalmancy to save her life. After such a last minute fringing with Skye I would hate for Mel to become a stepping stone in Jayce's character growth

I think Riot made the right choice by starting LoL series on Piltover/Zaun, because it ties to a bunch of different things, I mean, now that Singed "is Singed", he can make the toxine attack on Ionia vs Noxus war, taking the series to those places and creating Urgot in the process, and Swain losing his hand and making the deal as well as Irelia taking up her family's blades to fight for Ionia, then it could give context for Demacia (iirc, Demacia made a little alliance with Ionia to fight off Noxus, although it could've changed or I'm just remembering things wrong) and the inside mage war with Sylas, that could then tie to Freljord or just wait for Ruination, it just seems to "start" everything on Piltover and Zaun, and it's really incredible to be something like this
