"Are you a man or a mouse?" "I'm more of a flea." "Flea?" "If you say so!" I've never been sure about giving Duckman a try - I'm a Jason Alexander fan but don't really do adult shows/cartoons - but that scene cracked me up! I hope someone asks me that question one day so that I can deliver the same response. 🤣🤣🤣
The intro makes my seriously wonder what kids would say their favorite monsters are. Because I worry that neither Wolfman or Dracula would pop out as often as we think.
This is such a fascinatingly specific rabbithole to jump down; another eligible non-Halloween special would be Monkey Team Hyperforce's Season of the Skull. Halloween imagery and atmosphere, but the sci-fi setting means they can't directly use the specific holiday. I also have to mention how nice it is to see another Familiar Faces: I love following all your projects, but it's always a special treat to get one of these.
This list reminds me of the disappointment I feel when I try having a Halloween Special Marathon in October. Pretty quickly you run out of the classics and have to go scraping the bottom of the barrel for content.
It's funny you bring up buzz light-year. I remember an episode where him and his team were menaced by what seemed to be a ghost. Then at the end they discover it's the manifesting conscious of a buck Rogers esque space explorer who was frozen in deep space
I am so happy you mentioned the Ghost of Maiden's Peak. I mention in my top ten childhood Halloween Specials that I think the original intent is to have the special take place during the Obon Festival, a mid August holiday dedicated to the remembrance of deceased loved ones using those candle boats. Less Halloween and more Dio De Los Muertos, but as you said... Close enough.
OH MY LORD. FINALLY somoene talking about Movile Mysteries. I haunted down that cartoon for 15 years, and nobody knew about it. I found it out by chance 2 years ago! Finally a channel that give credits to that cartoon
Can't remember if you covered this one before, but thought I'd mention the actual Halloween episode of Gargoyles, "Eye of the Beholder". Has a pretty decent atmosphere to it with some fun moments and imagery, including Goliath and Eliza as Beauty and the Beast. Also the werewolf in this makes some truly terrifying sounds. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
Very cool choices for this list, and yes a lot of them do feel like Halloween Specials in their own way To me, a "close enough" Halloween special is the Tugs Episode, "Ghosts." In it, the tugs come across a fleet of White tugs that sail with their engines off and mistake them for a ghost fleet.
I'm surprised you did not talk about the episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender; "The Puppet Master". It has a great creepy atmosphere, is pretty dark, and aired only a little bit after Halloween.
Oh yah I remember this. It still happens now. Networks running a "Sort of Halloween Episode" or a "Sort of Christmas Episode" We just had METV do that where they ran a bunch of actual Halloween episodes but had to mix in other shows if they were loosely connected to Halloween sort of. Its always been that way. in fact a few years back I looked at an MLP:FiM DVD and it did the same thing it had Christmas episodes along side winter episodes and Halloween episodes along side night set episodes.
If I can chime in on one of my favorite Netflix series, I'm pretty sure Glitch Techs was building up to an evil corporation reveal, I think Hinobi was secretly evil and angling to take over the world with their consoles, the "glitches" just being test runs for their primary invading force. The fact that Hinobi's tech could even DO this in the first place hints that at the very least they cared little for public safety, the employment model encouraged competition between the employees and DISCOURAGED cooperation, Five's dad was serving a 10 year prison sentence for hacking, but everyone insisted he was a "White Hat hacker," which usually means he did something good through less than legal means, that kind of offense typically nets a slat on the wrist or even government employment. The fact that he was given such a harsh sentence means he must have crossed someone powerful, perhaps someone who could alter memories and fake evidence to make his crime appear much worse? They even had the manager store some kind of mysterious program in his old robot that his memory had been erased over. I'm guessing if they ever get around to making the third season it'll be about Hinobi launching an offensive with glitches that can convert homes into bases of operation, release thousands of soldiers who could be replaced with the push of a button if they fall, and convert citizens (or would be heroes) into slaves or evil champions. Miko, whose memory can't be erased, would be the only one who could stand against them at first, and the program that the manager hid away would either reveal their plan or a weakness, which could be exploited by the heroes thanks to a backdoor or something created by Fives' dad, and with the help of the Glitch Techs from the other region and the modder they can take down the malevolent corporation.
11:48 no in Europe it’s still Halloween and there are some different holidays like Halloween for many States, for example La Festa Dei Morti here in Italy
Episode 81 of Dragon Ball, Goku Goes to Demon Land, could work well if you ever do a volume 2. In Japan it first aired on September 30 which seems suspiciously close to October and it's got a lot Halloweenish imagery, especially the opening scene of a princess getting kidnapped by her own ghostly reflection.
I wanna see more proper Halloween specials for certain cartoons that take place during Halloween! Also, I’d love to see Amphibia have a Halloween special that takes place on Earth during Halloween!
Fantastic video as always. I like how the theme is "Almost Halloween", because I could barely feel the Halloween energy this year. This month went by QUICK.
HOL...LY CRAP!! The Ghost of Maiden's Peak was the one Pokemon episode, that actually scared me as a lil kid!! I still remember back then, that first opening scene always, putting me in tears, because It always freaked me the hell out!!😱 Seriously!!
Neds newt was a german production? Huh... well greetings from germany and.... at least when I was a kid in this show aired, we did not have halloween. We had halloween tv specials, but did not actually celebrated it, since it was more an american thing. Though over the last few years some people try to bring halloween to germany. Not sure how successfull they are but last night I was able to give some candy out to a small group of trick or treaters. Always prepare a little something for each year, just in case. And it alway fills me with joy when I can give the kids something I could not have. Also Neds Newt was a pretty decent show. I still quote it from time to time. Specially the line about mash potatoespotatoes as an ingridient... or maybe not XD
I notice you show Pumpkin in the cover photo for the video from Steven Universe. The episode with the shattered gem "arms" in the hospital is kinda like a Halloween-ish episode. Courage the Cowardly Dog is a good show for Halloween as it's horror themed. Scooby Doo Where are You feels fitting for Halloween too.
The Name of Duckman's plumbing business is Pretty Funny since its the letter A Repeated. With how long the name is you Could be confused for a Canadian.
Great list. I am a little surprised that the Batman Animated Series episode "moon of the wolf" didnt make the list. But yeah gotta save something for later ;) Happy Halloween everyone!
I’ve said this a few times but I always hope you see these comments and it somehow makes your day. Your Halloween videos are one of my favorite annual traditions. I love rewatching every list this time of year, rediscovering all these interesting and forgotten specials along with your unique perspective on each one, and then finally experience the new one. Thanks for your continued contribution to my Holiday season!
I was trying to think of some Sonic "almost halloween" episodes, and I could only remember a couple, in the SATAM cartoon there's one where Rotor makes this bride of Frankenstein type robot that starts stalking Antoine, and in the Sonic X anime they did an episode centered around the Boos from Sonic Adventure 2. I can't really remember anything super specific for the Adventures of Sonic cartoon, but then I only really saw that show when it first aired and I was eight years old, so I might be forgetting it, and I'm not sure I watched all of the Sonic Underground episodes so one might have slipped me by there.
I'm actually surprised of the Samurai Jack episodes you went with the graveyard and not the evil spirit. I personally found the latter more terrifying, but atmospherically I can see how the graveyard is more fitting to a traditional Halloween depiction.
I always wondered where we got those GOOD animated episodes of certain shows. Australia, neat, wish we could get full shows from that company. Hearing that Clasky worked on the fluid animation Simpsons episodes is really neat too, never suspected.
Every October me and my sister watch Halloween specials and creepy episodes of tv shows. If I may add some episodes for next time even if these shows already have Halloween episodes. 1. Ed, Edd, n Eddy-"The Ed's are Coming" and "The Day the Eds Stood Still" 2. Hey Arnold- "The Haunted Train", "The Headless Cabbie", and "Ghost Bride" 3. SpongeBob- "Graveyard Shift", "Planet Jellyfish", and "Krabby Patty Creature Feature" 4. Phineas and Ferb- "One Good Scare Ought to Do It!" and "Terrifying Tri-State Trilogy of Terror" 5. Teen Titans - "Haunted" 6. Jimmy Neutron- "Sleepless in Retroville"
Love that your back ♥️ And with the Top 10 like specials. I thought this was a review of Close Enough's Halloween Episode. You should do Close Enough Christmas Episodes ⛄🎄 ❄️
That Duckman footage reminded me how I hate it when idiots are given the task of preserving old cartoons. There are right and wrong ways to do deinterlacing.
I gotta say the Pedigree of Star Command's voice cast was insane. Wayne Knight as Zurg, Steve Hytner as Parsec, Bobcat Goldthwait as XL, and Scottish Comedian/Skeleton Enthusiast Craig Ferguson as Nos-4-A-2.
Thanks so much for doing these! Was looking forward to another lesser known and nostalgic Halloween list, and yours are always the best! So many toons I never actually saw had some real good ones, and these ones I'd seen, no one else believes existed, heh. I swear I have the Ren&Stimpy haunted house episode on one of these old VHS's
Chad's new Halloween video is up! Now it's truly Halloween. Just got out of work, and am looking forward to this. I also look forward to including into my rotation of when I just decide to randomly watch all your videos.
Dr. Fate rarely ever is done justice. He's supposed to be the soul of an uncaring Chaos-Ending God trapped in a helmet channeled by a compassionate and humbled human man that becomes a true hero for the masses, NOT a man who seeks pure order and nothing else and DEFINITELY not a righteous and just man that can just, have ALL the power with NO strings attached... seriously he can just, take off his helmet whenever? Really Black Adam?...
Finally, moville mysteries found its way on famillair faces video... Kinda wished it had its own episode reder then a mantion for the kinda sortha not really halloween episode list

@Autumn's Fable Keeper more or less. We got to dress up (I went as Beetlejuice) and we were gonna trick or treat along with the kids but it got too late once we sat down to eat but it was like a mix of a Wedding and Halloween party.
ACKSHUALLY *spittle dripping* It's Metroidvania, as a combination of the two most famous examples of the genre: Metroid and Castlevania. Metrovania doesn't exist, or if it does, it would be a combination of Castlevania and those survival horror Metro 2033 games where you're fighting Nazis and Mutants below the nuked wasteland that was Russia.
There's actually a Halloween episode of Pokemon, except they call it the Gourgeist Festival. The episode is "A Festival Trade! A Festival Farewell!" (XY082)
I will say that the Hessian would have died at the Battle of White Planes, which took place on October 28th. So, while not specifically Halloween, in that he's a German soldier haunting dutch immigrants in Colonial America, it's still pretty Halloween adjacent. Dude bit it only 48 hours before beggars would go soulling in Ireland.
"I'll finally steal enough money to pay off my student loans!"
That line always hit a little too real.
The I can’t believe it’s not butter of Halloween specials.
I'm very happy you talked about Glitch Techs. Love that show. It doesn't get enough love.
"Are you a man or a mouse?"
"I'm more of a flea."
"Flea?"
"If you say so!"

Awww yeah, CR Halloween is always a staple
This list reminds me of the disappointment I feel when I try having a Halloween Special Marathon in October. Pretty quickly you run out of the classics and have to go scraping the bottom of the barrel for content.
Oh man I BARELY remember Moville Mysteries. Caught a few episodes when I was younger and always saw ads for it, but never watched it proper.
It's funny you bring up buzz light-year. I remember an episode where him and his team were menaced by what seemed to be a ghost. Then at the end they discover it's the manifesting conscious of a buck Rogers esque space explorer who was frozen in deep space

Ned's Newt was one of Teletoon's weirdest Shows
Dang, has it been a year already? I miss these Familiar Faces episodes. I wish you did more of them again.

I'm thrilled that you're still doing these Top 13 Halloween Specials.
I'm a big fan of the phrase "fistfuls of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command"
I forgot how fucking cool that show could be, goddamn.
Oh hey, Loona chilling in the background!
Well did you notice her jackolantern is just a balloon.
there's also Hop Pop, Peridot and Patrick Star. idk who the character in the middle is
@@bigseven8227 it's Lapis
I'm surprised you did not talk about the episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender; "The Puppet Master". It has a great creepy atmosphere, is pretty dark, and aired only a little bit after Halloween.
I chose ren and stimpy to represent nick. Don't worry i'm sure there will be another list.
Gravity Falls and Amphibia have Halloween specials that don’t actually take place on Halloween!
Oh yah I remember this. It still happens now. Unfortunately nickelodeon doesn’t care and decided to can it
My pick for scariest Darkwing Duck was Bushroot's introduction episode, Beauty and the Beet.
And that Ren & Stimpy "Haunted House" episode was originally pitched as an episode of Tiny Toons.
Werewolfs mummies and Frankenstein’s monster wouldn’t be coordinated without a vampire
11:48 no in Europe it’s still Halloween and there are some different holidays like Halloween for many States, for example La Festa Dei Morti here in Italy

Would’ve loved to of seen the Lloyd in space or recess Halloween episodes here but still good.
I'm happy your still making Halloween lists!
And Movile Mysteries! That show was so cool! Happy its remembered!
Fright night IS Halloween
Used in reference to more how teenagers celebrate it
Going for scarier costumes, and “pranks”
I honestly prefer the Samurai Jack episode with the ghosts and the house, waaay more atmospheric.
'Bout time you came back hon~
We've miss you~
Fantastic video as always. I like how the theme is "Almost Halloween", because I could barely feel the Halloween energy this year. This month went by QUICK.
In regards to samurai jack my first thought was the cannibal robot episode but I guess thAt is more of a vignette, great list as always
HOL...LY CRAP!! The Ghost of Maiden's Peak was the one Pokemon episode, that actually scared me as a lil kid!! I still remember back then, that first opening scene always, putting me in tears, because It always freaked me the hell out!!😱 Seriously!!
You say dollar store Dr strange, but Fate did come first.
Yeah. So Dr Strange is Dollar Tree and Dr Fate is Dollar General.
I think Jack and the haunted house is truly terrifying

What makes the haunted house scarier is that The spirit has nothing to do with Aku.
My favorite Halloween host is back! Thank you CR.
Nothing like sitting on a list for an entire year.
Well I made this list and last years video at the same time but only had enough time for the one.
@@FamiliarFacesChannel Oh, no, I meant it feels good to have made your homework with one year to spare! Have a happy Halloween!

You may not have liked this animated version of Doctor Fate but at least Pierce Brosnan did the character justice.
Rainsong alone makes that Superman episode one of the best.
you know there was this Arthur episode "the Fright Stuff" from the 4th Season that sorta feels like a Halloween episode!

Hey the good old days made it on the list
What a way to wrap up the night
You want a "close enough" Halloween show?, look for "Nightmare Ned"
Yea same thoughts on that
Loved both nightmare Ned the game and series
Thanks so much for doing these! Was looking forward to another lesser known and nostalgic Halloween list, and yours are always the best!
So many toons I never actually saw had some real good ones, and these ones I'd seen, no one else believes existed, heh. I swear I have the Ren&Stimpy haunted house episode on one of these old VHS's

But Dr Fate come out before Dr Strange 😂😂
Chad's new Halloween video is up! Now it's truly Halloween.
Just got out of work, and am looking forward to this. I also look forward to including into my rotation of when I just decide to randomly watch all your videos.

also we miss you wee need more of your content
Man do I love the old-school Pokemon episodes were the show and world wasn't really set in stone and they just kinda did whatever. A ghost type Pokemon is literally just a ghost, Jesse saves James with a bazooka, and crosses can ward off ghost Pokemon, why not?
Biggest upset though is definitely the Buzz Lightyear list and that final scene. You knew exactly what you were doing with that list, and I know it because I too have brainrot and can now only imagine a future where XR argues against one of Buzz's plans, and when he tries to state his point XR just looks him in the eyes and says the one argument that he can't argue against... "I fucked your dad, shitlips".
It's a pity we didn't see CR's winged friend like last year.
He is reserved for the weirdest videos...maybe.
Dollar door Dr. Strange.
Funny since Dr. Fate was created decades before Strange.
The ghastly was a ghost of a ghost type pokemon maybe that's why he was impervious to other pokemon attacks
Zig and sharko cured my depression
One of my favorite Halloween style special was the haunted house episode from Sonic X
Loved the episodes of Star Command with N0-4-A2 back when I used to watch ripped episodes of the show on UA-cam as a kid, but I never saw the Wirewolf episodes; which is a shame because the concept of a flesh and blood human turning into a robot werewolf sounds so rad.

@Autumn's Fable Keeper more or less. We got to dress up (I went as Beetlejuice) and we were gonna trick or treat along with the kids but it got too late once we sat down to eat but it was like a mix of a Wedding and Halloween party.

At first I read this as you reviewing the “Close Enough” Halloween special -
um i miss your milton the monster ep.
also you are the king of comedic timing.

How could you forget “The Puppetmaster” from Avatar the Last Airbender?
