I have to Give it to Dinah , she was Straight Up DOWN for Artists like Aretha, Mahalia Jackson etc etc etc..She KNEW Who could SANG and gave them a Spotlight on her show!! Thanks Dinah!!! xoxo
In this performance, you can see the strong influence that Aretha had on the singing and performing style of Whitney Houston. Ms. Houston was a young girl when her mother was a back-up singer for Aretha. As a result, Whitney saw many of Aretha's recording sessions and live appearances which she said had a lasting impact on her.
Wow! her voice was truly a gift from God himself! What a blessing her music was to me. She was so versatile in the world of music. She was born to sing!
On this same episode she sings "Until You Come Back to Me", as well as "Angel" and "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" can you upload any of those performances?
Dinah Shore was a leading singer in the 1940's & '50's and was an old pro in show business. She knew talent when she saw/heard it which is why she admired and respected Aretha.
What singer of that era do that modern singers can't do is have the ability to tell a story. Modern singers entertain with dancers and choreography. Singers like Aretha, Diana Ross, and Nancy Wilson tell stories, not to mention they didn't need auto-tune.
Place your supplication of 🙏 to the Lord. The Lord still hears and answers prayers of his children. I second that prayer of female singers that are polished and anointed. Amen!
I was 18 when Aretha appeared on this program. I would watch the Dinah Shore Show everyday trying to catch Aretha on there or any other show! LOL Thank you for this posting!
That had something...more still and intimate, than any performance I've ever seen her do I don't know what brought that out But it was so vulnerable and exquisite She truly is the Greatest of All Time
This is early 1975, so the "You" album hadn't been released yet. "A Song For You" is on her early 1974 album "Let Me In Your Life'" and she later did a medley of songs from her latter 1974 "With Everything I Feel In Me."
@@BlackMusicArchiveLive where can we listen to the medley of songs? also, she appeared on the tonight show and sang with everything i feel in me and blew the roof off!!!!!!
@@eduardos8031 , Wow , I would so love to hear her sing `With Everything I feel in Me `.... I played that song countless times on my stereo back in the day.
Thank you for this video. I think we are getting closer and closer to seeing Angel, Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thang, and Until You Come Back to Me from this same show I believe. So happy to see this.
I've never seen this before. Thank you so much for uploading it. The Undisputed, ETERNAL Queen of Soul. I was in the mall yesterday and all of a sudden Dr. Feelgood came over the music system. I was so thrilled. Thanks again.
I would like to believe that she was singing this song just for me,but nevertheless, the Queen of Soul rendition of this song was absolutely amazing.Thank you for this one ❤❤❤😊
Love Ree’s heartfelt delivery of this classic masterpiece. Please check out Natalie Cole’s interpretation on her Snowfall On The Sahara cd of the song thirty years later. Both versions are beautiful. Two of the greatest female voices ever to hold a microphone
Happy birthday to the Queen! So glad for this channel and the gems that you are hitting up with! This is one of those performances that I have wanted to see for decades. Queen looked epic and sounded glorius!
Aretha Is The Best However...... This Arrangement Of This Song Takes Away From The Depths That Donny's Arrangements Possessed. Aretha Franklin Is The Greatest Singer Ever!
Aretha is definitely the best vocalist of all times. However if you want to hear a artists sing this song with all the power and depth of Donny Hathaway's version. Google Sylvester a song for you.
This is not Donny Hathaway's song. This song was written and first recorded by the late great Leon Russell. Donny Hathaway's version was very good, yes, but this song was recorded by hundreds of artists, and credit needs to go rightfully to Leon Russell. No one sang it better than Leon. EVER.
Sylvester, from his live album, "Living Proof," 1979 - MY favorite. Even though Leon Russell wrote it and recorded it first, everyone, people (certainly in R&B) will do Donny Hathaway's arrangement of it.
A Song For You was written and first recorded by the great Leon Russell. Hundreds of artists have recorded this song, but none were so heartfelt as the version by the legendary Leon.
What deference does it makes who sung it first,Aretha did a great job on this song, why we always want to divide one another with our words 😅long live the Queen ❤
Remembering "The Queen of Soul," on what would've been her 81st birthday ❤
Aretha tells a story when she sings! She knows when to be soft and gentle and when to bring on the fire and power! The one and only Queen of Soul!
Yes Lord!! 😄

Well said...and rest in peace tob both Dinah and Aretha ❤🎉❤🎉
There are many reasons Aretha was known as "the Queen of soul". This performance is one of them!
i know that's right!
She said MILLIONS were watching..‼
And she said what she said!! lol

In her prime, Aretha was peerless.

I wish female singers still performed polished like this.

She was a very pretty lady.

There was no one like her in the70's.
She does a great performance of Leon Russell's famous song, "A Song for You".
this woman is amazing!!!!!! Love you my Queen Aretha!
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE WHAT THIS WOMAN DID - BEYOND COMPREHENSION
Her voice always gets my attention!!!!!😍
In the 70s no woman could beat Aretha
That had something...more still and intimate, than any performance I've ever seen her do

Thank you for this remarkable footage of a legend. The Queen of Soul!!!
Oh wow….she’s gorgeous and so is her voice. Miss you Aretha. 💕🌹
Ahh! The Pre-YOU era! Aretha ‘75!

Does anybody know why we can faintly hear her singing some of the lyrics before she sings them? Like an echo but before the sound.
Sometimes they had guide vocals playing in the back .
It's not a guide track but "tape bleed". You'll hear it on older recordings because of that, it's just messy analogue recording stuff.
@@NIPPYxMIMI i think it's like karoke, but i guess technology wasn't as good in the seventies as it is today.
