- Unboxing and initial set up of the handsome looking Wildcat from Galaxy Kayaks!
I'm lucky enough to have been sent one on loan for review and I have to say it certainly looks the part! How it performs as a fishing platform only time will tell but I'm very much looking forward to finding out over the coming months! The newly designed seat fitting and flipper drive housing look great, really simple and they just sort of make sense. Now all we need is a settled spell so I can get out there and catch some fish!
Galaxy Wildcat Review - Best Fishing Kayak - UK Kayak Fishing - Galaxy Kayaks UK -
Nicely unpacked and assembled Chris with clear narration of how it fits together. Looks like it will be a good stable platform to fish from.Hope the winds in the coming days ebate long enough for you to get out and do what you do.
This wind has been an absolute pain! Massive sea running today! 😫
Nice design. Can't wait to get your opinion of how it handles.👌
I was out on it on Tuesday and it was awesome. Vid will be up Sunday 👍🎣
Hi Chris could I ask how you did connect the transducer mate. As I’ll be purchasing a wildcat in a couple of weeks 👍
I did the cheat way, I attached the transducer to the inside of the transducer compartment cover with zip ties. Just did the same for my new finder on the Sturgeon. Dead easy 😊🎣
Spot on mate cheers I’ll do that 👍
Lovely bit of kit that mate👍🏻
Good value for money too👍🏻
Looks good doesn’t it? Just need this wind to do one then I can get out and catch a few fish! 🎣
@@onthedropfishing I know that feeling mate👍🏻 Waiting for it to die down here too🙄
Chris, you dont half spoil yourself mate, good one.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Just a loaner this one Glen, it’ll be going back in a few months. I’ll enjoy those few months though! 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing I don't feel so jealous now, just jesting Chris, enjoy it my friend.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Hi Chris, i know you have both the Sturgeon and the Wildcat. im not sure on which one to order and wanted to know what your your preferred Kayak was between the two as i know you have both ? thanks
That is a difficult one! I like them both but at the moment I’m using the sturgeon as I’ve injured my hamstring and I have the motor for it. If the wildcat had a motor I would probably use that more often than not. I hope that helps!
👍🎣
Chris in your opinion what is the best fishing kayak that you have used? Im torn between a wildcat and the supernova, cheers
Hey mate, I know I replied to your DM but I’ll do the same here for other people. I’d go for the Wildcat or the Sturgeon FX personally as although the Supernova is a very very good kayak it’s also considerably heavier than the other two which in my case (loading on to a pop top) is important 👍🎣
Do you think the wildcat is better then supernova fx, better stability and more agile?
You have a great channel 👍
Hi mate, thanks for your kind words I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. If I had to pick I’d take the wildcat purely on weight. The Supernova is a mighty beast but it weighs considerably more than the wildcat. I find it to be a great fishing platform as well as having great primary stability. Hope that helps 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing
Thank you very much for replying back to me, that’s great, just placed an order for supernova FX .🤝🎣
Wanted the Wildcat but all sold out so bought the Supernova FX heres the Galaxy review I placed SupernovaFX
Arrived all ok 100% Been watching Chris Connels ON THE DROP reviews on UA-cam and it sold me. Been building it up slowly due the constant rain but its getting there and itching to get to sea fishing with it.. What a beautifull purpose designed fishing kayak
Happy new kayak! I hope you catch them all when you get out.
Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Brilliant, I went out and bought one. (your discount was £63, brilliant thanks it worked) Will you please do a video on how to launch without crunching the paddles please.
Hi mate, happy new kayak! You launch with the pedal drive out and use the paddle until you’re in a metre or so of water then you put the drive in. Hope that helps 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing Thank you so much, it took me an hour to find this out on youtube lol. very little vids exist.
Salve. Grazie
Hi mate, the pedal drive is all metal where it contacts the chain on the Galaxy it’s a copy of the original hobie pedal drive. That being said I haven’t heard of any problems with the hobie drives 🤷. Hope that helps 🎣
How is it in comparison to the sturgon fx that you have over the two what would you suggest is the better kayak. Many thanks Chris
I was out on it on Monday and I absolutely loved it, that video will be up tonight (Sunday) I’d say once the motor is ready for it it’d be everything I need 👍🎣
may need to think about an upgrade that looks brilliant bit of kit
It does look good and the box system the flipper drive Into will eventually be interchangeable with a prop drive or motor set up. Whatever your preference 👍🎣
Chris, another great video, very useful and it looks a decent bit of kit!
One question, how does the flipper drive compare to supernova's prop drive? Im very tempted by the Galaxy kayaks, but like the idea and being able to pedal in reverse...I don't think either of the Galaxy flipper drives can do reverse!?
They don't reverse like the prop drive unfortunately. I suppose Hobie has a patent on reversible flipper drive systems.
So I’m told the reason behind the “box housing” is that eventually you’ll be able to choose between prop drive, flipper or motor. The flippers don’t have reverse but I’ve never had the need to reverse at sea. I can see how it would be useful on a river or reservoir though 👍🎣
Nice one Chris, what is the use of those orange ropes on the sides?
They’re for self rescue, righting the kayak but most people clip stuff to them (myself included!) 👍🎣
Nice looking boat 👌
Looks great doesn’t it? 👍🎣
@onthedropfishing It does pal,I've msg galaxy about the new seat claps,Save a lot of messing that👍
No hatch behind the seat Chris ? looks good
Yes there is a small hatch behind the seat, I forgot to put that bit in! 🤣🎣
Looks good , I wonder if the new seat clamps will also fit the supernova
Was wondering the same for the sturgeon,Would make life easier for sure
I asked Chris on FB if they'll fit and he's going to check today, so fingers crossed. I can't see why they wouldn't as it's the same seat as the nova and the same rail fittings.
The front will definitely fit, the only problem I see is there’s no rail on the rear of mine however there is a threaded brass insert so you could add one. You might not need it though to be fair. I hope that helps?
It would fit the sturgeon I reckon 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing Nice one Chris 👍
Looks like a lovely kayak, especially for the money
It looks great doesn’t it👍🎣
By the time youve bought it ,added a motor and battery your into small boat territory!
@@wingmasterjimmy6724 not everyone has the space for a boat though. I have a supernova and eventually will put a motor on it, I definitely don't have space for a boat
omg u lucky sod .... what u done with ur old kayak mate?
My other two are in the garage, this is just a loan for review it’ll be going back in a few months. Still a lucky lad though! 👍🎣
@onthedropfishing oooo it looks sexeh lol .... STOP IT chris ... ur making me want another kayak lol 😆 ...
Discount code……OTD5…….😃🎣
Looks really good, do I need an upgrade 😂
I think fishermen always need an (excuse to) upgrade! 🤣🎣
How much does this kit cost??
I’ve just had a look on their website and they’re £1299.00 - if you used the channel discount that would knock about £70 off that price 👍🎣
Trying to convince the wife I need one😂😂😂
Tell her with code it’ll be a bargain! 🤣👍🎣
🎣👍🏼
Cheers Sam 😊🎣
Pedali a pinna con retromarcia?
No reverse, I don’t fish in fresh water on the yak but I’ve never needed to reverse at sea 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing I mainly fish vertical and slow... I own a Galaxy Supernova, reverse gear is essential to stay well on the points.
No transducer fittings???….wtf…
yeah it would've benefitted from them for sure. Not certain if it was because this was a first run model for review or not. Not too big a deal though I just improvised a scupper mount into the compartment. 👍🎣

Good work! 👏👏👏
@@onthedropfishing
shit colour for something at sea, would not a bright colour be better suited for the lifeboat to see
I wear a bright red drysuit and a bright red pfd so all good. Dsc calling on the vhf as well 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing yes I know you do but you're not the only one buying them, how many boats apart from battle ships do you see painted grey
