- Ian from @ForgottenWeapons introduced the iconic WWSD rifle to the slavic savages. The light and capable rifle intrigued their minds with space-age technology.
This Stoner guy made an impressive weapon.

I love that almost everything is ambidexterous when a gun is designed by a left hander
The philosophy was that if Karl ever needed to use Ians rifle or the other way around, they could exchange and use the equipment completely seamlessly.
I would love it even more if a left hander designed guns that are only ergonomic and comfortable for left-handed people.
All we need now is the same consideration when right handers design weapons.

The WWSD rifle weighs the same as a Desert Eagle pistol. That's really light for a rifle but really heavy for a pistol. 😅
My thoughts too. The Eagle is an infamously heavy pistol.
@@Mugdorna The WWSD is still unbelievably light though.
@@Mugdorna Considering what caliber it is generally chambered it, it isn't heavy enough. What other pistol is chambered in the same caliber as the Eagle?
@xdlol1177 there's the grizzly mkv which weighs about the same (3.5 lbs) and the Automag V that wings 2.8 lbs
The idea behind the desert eagle was to be able to have a magnum pistol that didn't kick like a mule. You can rapid fire a 357mag de like you are shooting a glock17.
This had me cracking up for real.

Ian trying to hold on to his composure, and failing, is by far the best bit of this video.
2:55 caught me off guard and had me laughing until tears rolled down my face.
Ian was PERILOUSLY close to breaking character at that mag-drop scene, and I am honestly cackling at it.
I'm a simple man, I see Ian and Polenar, I click on the blue thumb.
And I wasn't ready for the ''butt'' 🤣
I wasn't ready for it, but I sure appreciated it lol.
Ziga keeping a straight face...Well-played, Ian!
I have been waiting for this. I loved Ziga going full Slavic Mode for instruction on Western Rifle.
Mine's one of the American ones with a Faxon barrel, and it's overgassed too, it's a function of the gas port size they use. My upper to lower fit is great, not wobbly. I had a couple of the early issues too - there's a batch of ambi mag releases that have slightly weak springs and will drop mags while you're firing. KE will replace them (I put a normal one in cos I'm not handicapped like Ian so have no need to press the button with the wrong hand). You can push the safety too far, then you get a dead trigger on some rifles, and the solution is to flick it back on and off again. Some of the PDQ bolt hold open levers will bounce and lock the bolt open when you don't want it. I put in a heavier spring, which fixed it, but then the automatic hold-open isn't reliable with P-Mags. But it's my baby and I love it, despite these few flaws 🥰
The fit on mine wasn't great so I put in an accuwedge and some dynema in the pin holes to tighten them up and remove the slop. I love the trigger but it the hammer spring is giving me light strikes when I use my 22kit for practice. Has been enough for 223 but yeah. Haven't had the issue with the safety but have had the issue with the mag catch. I'll have to call them up and get that replacement spring. The over gassing is terrible on mine and I get a lot of it back out of the ejection port which can make my eyes sting. I'll try the extra weight buffer rings suggested by another comment. Love the weight and ease of use. The safety throw on the ambi side not getting in the way of the trigger finger is nice and the balance is super nice. Going to need to resolve the minor issues but it's my favorite ar right now by far.
Is it typical with other AR-15s to have such kinks out of the box? Is the WWSD average on that? or bad? or even better than most? (I'm from europe so I don't own rifles, only pistols are practical)
@@spairus4492
The slop on mine is just a tiny bit worse than usual for a forged receiver, the safety issue is uncommon and I can't confirm it, no one I know had had it. The light hammer is probably a judgement call, it's plenty enough for the round it is designed for, I'm getting light strikes because I'm using it to drive a sub caliber conversion kit as well, so technically not for what it was designed for. The over gassing is also a judgement call as it increases reliability with crap ammo, they probably were most concerned about not having lots of failure to cycle among first customers. The mag catch spring thing is odd but it probably is a standard spring that might be a little light for people jamming full mags on a closed bolt. The issues are a result in decisions to ensure the parts will function in a situation where they don't know for sure how well each will fit with each other they're minor compared to the problems that would have resulted if they erred in the opposite direction so most would probably give them a pass. The result is what they advertised though. It's reliable under fire and incredibly light while being a pretty impressive value for the money at least a few years back, mines a wwsd2020, I'm not sure if they're priced as well over there. The major competitors in the ultra light space are the midwest industries builds which are diy to try to really match weight, or fostech which makes magnesium alloy based parts which while nice can be pricey. For a ready made option in the ultra light space, this is a relatively inexpensive option that happens to lead the pack in that one metric but has tuning issues for you to adjust to your liking.
@@CtrlAltRetreat Wish I could have one but for now i just wanted to tell you your username is amazing, top work.
@@CtrlAltRetreat Thanks for the detailed answer! I'm not sure about the european rifle market, but at 2.5k euro, i don't imagine it's good value.
1:20 I think you managed to get Ian to break character. That comedy sketch was gold.
I love that on other Gun Channels, they still let Ian do *his* intro. Truly, he is Gun Jesus.
Man, we've heard WWSD content for years, yet this is the first time I've heard those two downsides. They're minor, of course, but still. I also really appreciate that Žiga immediately gives solutions as well!
Sure.
The wobble between upper and lower isn't really an issue in regard to function. Bugs me as well, but it doesn't affect reliability or accuracy. Ziga's solution is spot on.
Overgassing is usually the result of having to make sure the rifle will run with any ammo out of the box. Best solution is to add weight to the buffer or stronger springs.
The M70 you took from ziga also has a last round bolt hold open if using the original magazine tho.
The rifle in the video is actually the rare M70a model that has an internal bolt catch :)
@@PolenarTacticalm64 had it early on too correct?
@@gusplaer Yes, i think so
@@PolenarTactical wow that's awesome. Thanks for the information I didn't know that they had one like that.
At 4:20, the issue you have with the rifle being over gassed can be very easily fixed by using a heavier buffer. A standard rifle length buffer is about 5 oz, a standard carbine buffer is about 3 oz. Because the WWSD uses a captive buffer spring, you need to replace 2 of the steel rings with tungsten versions to increase total weight to about 4 oz to smooth out the over gassed impulse.
Heavier buffer defeats the purpose of light weight rifle. Adjustable gas is correct answer. Only problem is most ppl don't know how to adjust well and end up malfunction on differing ammo loads.
@@Soravia Adding an ounce or two to the buffer will not suddenly make the rifle heavy and unwieldy. Adjustable gas blocks on ARs are not known to be the most reliable.
@@NicksgamertagXP And the weight is central rear where it matters least. I went that way for a while.
That said, I REALLY like the Wojtek gas blocks. I put them on everything and now just run carbine buffers and springco "standards" on everything. I keep the allen key in my buttstock and just click it a few times whenever I run a boresnake (farm guns.. pretty often) and they have never even tried to freeze up.
We're dealing with Slavs, people who expect rifles to be overgassed.
I'm going to try that buffer weight increase. Thanks for the tip.
HAHAHAHAHA that Kalashnikov style charging bolt action had me dead XDDDD

@Random Nobodovsky Nah, in this version the humans would win
It's not a lot different than teaching anyone how to use an AR, AK, or any semi-auto rifle with more than one control. They're playing it for laughs, but this is what it's been like for me showing someone how to operate one of these things.
Credit should also be given to Karl at InRange and Russel Phagan at KE Arms. Shame they weren't mentioned depite being co-developers of this.
He said Karl's name once, but I bet that Ian was wanting him to avoid talking about Karl and Russell due to Ian falling out with them a while ago which is also why Ian scrubbed any mention of midnight brutality being organized by InRange in his match videos.

I don't know who's a better actor in that opening skit 😂😂😂
The AK dance is always epic.
Incredible that some everyday folks are out here producing MORE improved versions of an AR than some of these giants in the industry. GOOD JOB
In fairness, this isn't cheap, and it's the result of a number of different manufacturers each creating specialist parts that Ian and Karl picked out and put together.
While it seems possible to mass-produce a rifle like this, trying to coordinate everyone to do so was a challenge even for the small number Brownells is putting together. Doing this for a military contract would be crippling.
It's not really improved, it's a lot of off the shelf parts on an entry level cheap lower. It doesn't do anything unique or special.
@@watchm4kerAny manufacturer who could get a large contract would be able to make those parts or buy the necessary equipment anyway I think.
@@madcapHPSIt's improved compared to an M16. It's significantly lighter, and somewhat easier to maintain.

I love these rifles, so lightweight. Stoner hated the forward assist it's not needed but the military wanted and the customer gets what they want.
Don't need a bayonet, adjustable gas block, bolt hold open, adjustable sights, better than 2 or 3 moa accuracy, better than mil spec trigger, 1-6x bdc optic. But guess what, I want all that plus a forward assist. And dam it all, I will have one!

That mag drop was pure genius. Saw it coming from a mile away and it still cracked me up more than it did Ian.
This was awesome!
the mag drop was hilarious, good camera work 🙂
Colt ARs are/were notorious for having the same loose tolerances between the upper and lower, such that the rubber "take up" is more or less mandatory. In my experience, modern AR variants from Daniel Defense, BCM, etc. do not have this issue. Hopefully CZ can bring back better manufacturing standards to Colt.
I second the recommendation to install an adjustable gas block.
I will first shorten the barrel to 14" as that will reduce the dwell time. If it's still overgassed, i will install an adjustable gas block
@@PolenarTactical What about just changing the buffer out for a heavier H2 buffer? I would think that would be an easier fix than changing out the barrel.

I do like the fact that the WWSD is still a beast in the middle of it's evolutionary cycle.
Of course it's some of the little things like, calibre, barrel twist, barrel profile and gas system that are going to, I feel, really define this project.
Okay, i really want one of these now
A good while ago there was a little crowd-sourced action at ForgottonWeapons to get Ian into audition for a cameo in a new installment of the John Wick franchise. This skit is somehow reminding me of that effort.
I loved the idea of it, as well as the feel. But after buying an early serial numbered one, the buffer tube area failed.
Its skeletonized in there, and the skeletonization failed. They, in my opinion, shouldve made it a solid tube inside. (Im sure it still would be ultra light)
If they do, i'll get another.
It was warrantied and i sold the new one.
They blamed an early employee, since fired. Maybe thats true, who knows. The new one looked reamed the same.
I live in Alaska and feel the cold also maybe had something to do with it? It was -20°-30° at the time it failed. Anyways, it seems like a weak point, especially in the extreme cold.
