I was recruited by the driving school owner. Had a job before even had the license. Bought my own truck 3 months later. I drive local between cities. Less than 160kms ELD exempt take home over 100,000$. Bought a 2nd truck to avoid down time. Away i go. Gotta get in where you fit in.
Long Haul isn't the only way to get experience as a new driver. There are a lot of local mega carrier companies that will hire new drivers esp here in Ontario. Waste Management, GFL Environment, Sysco, Pepsi/Coke or Gordon Foods. The only problem is that when you do local, you will have to do a lot more physical labor but they tend to pay a lot better than mileage pay of long haul. At the end of the day, there is no magic bullet for hiring new drivers but long haul isn't the only option as a new driver.
Started my trucking career at GFS. Was actually a great job if you can handle the physical work. Gave me a great start, learned about hauling B-trains with them and then landed myself a gig hauling fuel on some B's. 401/2/3 Corridor only. I would highly recommend Gordon Food Service to anyone starting. You learn so much about maneuvering the truck with all the tight city driving and challenging delivery areas, and it sets you up for success as far as gaining valuable backing skills and city driving. Coke/Pepsi would also be a good job. Have safe day drivers
@@Sirkofski best learning experience for backing is yard horse driver. After ads did a year of Yardhorse. Got paid to learn how parallel park a semi trailer. Get in and out of tight spaces came In handy many times once I took advantage of my class A and went over the road. Felt like a step backwards going from doing rearload mostly commercial to yardhorse but in long run worked out nice. Ones just got to get experience anyway they can I guess
@@patrick_9393 I bet companies would hire someone as a shunter or yard dog. Would be the best way to gain backing and maneuvering experience. It's always a good feeling when you nail a backup or make a tight turn perfectly and a 4 wheeler/another drivers gives ya the thumbs up.
Got my AZ, looked for work every single day for 3 months. I applied online, I applied in person. I went to every single company in my area and repeatedly was told I needed experience. After 3 months of being told I need experience I finally ended up getting a job driving a ready mix truck, it’s not what I wanted at all but it was my only hope of driving for a living and luckily it looks good on a resume… over 80,000lbs fully loaded and the load is continuously moving… and some of the places we have to go with our trucks takes some skill. I hate being in the concrete industry and I’m sick of construction but it’s what I have to do in order to get experience to get a better job in a year/year and a half 🤷♂️
Be careful in that mixer I drove them for three years they are the most dangerous trucks out there.....the scariest words you can here when you pull into a job site will be we have had dump trucks drive threw there and they haven't had a problem 😱also the lower the slump it gets worse as the mud climbs the side of the drum and changes the center of gravity....that's why almost every time you see a mixer turned over it's on the driver's side the heavy side of the truck I drove a 10 yard rear discharge truck
Sweet express. They will get you home every two weeks, they hire with 3 months of experience right now. We used to hire brand new drivers aswell but we dont have a training program. So you gotta be a quick learner basically. I got on with 3 months of local work, and since i knew how to manuever i passed the test they preformed to ensure you know how to manuever, after that i was alone and learning as i went. As long as your on time and dont get into accidents you will do good. Ive been with them for 6-7 months and i get about 1100 a week on average. If you stay out for longer without hometime you can get like 1400 a week on average.

I take my time and go slow, if anyone has a problem that’s too bad.. it’s my license and cvor 🤷♂️ I’ll do this for a little while and then move on to something better.
I got my license through a mega carrier. I was at the CDL training facility 900 miles from home for four weeks with no pay. Then once I passed the exam I went home for 3 nights then on the road for otr training with a complete stranger for 30,000 miles which we did in approximately 8 weeks. My trainer went home twice but I did not go home. Once the training was over with we went back to the terminal and I got my truck and ran for two more weeks before getting home for a 34 hour break. Then over my first two years I would stay out for 6-7 weeks at a time, saving money to buy my own truck with cash. Driving a truck is not for everyone. I’m the only person from my class of 20 who is still out driving otr. Most of the other people quit within the first year.

Online careers are not paying that much, and they do not last decades because the internet is saturated. Everyone thought they were going to become 5 foot 7 150lb crypto millionaire dork overnight. 85% of those people are still poor, 12% went bankrupt after the crash or blowing their fast money, and 3% (I'm being generous with 3%) made smart investments. Trucking is not for everyone, but for the guys that know how to work they will easily become top 10% American earners. I'm in the top 3% *NET* earners when all income from trucking and running my business are combined. This does not include the $200K of my own money that I have put into real estate and another $170k from my VA loan. Trucking is not just a job, it's a cash cow to entrepreneurs.

never went to cdl school borrowed a truck and trailer from my employer I was working as a truck mechanic and took my driving test I had the same problem nobody wanted to hire me because I didn't go to school and had no experience I got a job hauling asphalt in dump trailers for 10 dollars a hr touched it out for a year moved and got my next job pulling a tanker in the oil field then bellydumps then heavy equipment now I work for a oversize company keep your driving record clean and with a little experience you can go to work for whoever you want you will find someone to hire you keep looking
I would recommend you to suspend your plans to get into trucking industry until next spring at least. Trucking industry in general is not feeling good right now, looks like everything is started falling into recession. Bad times are coming for all of us.
You're not putting enough effort. I was called by 3 carriers having 0 exp in January. I got my endorsements during training in my own time. I subbed 7 applications at about 7 months OTR got called by 4. Don't focus on what is going on and keep pushing or you're gonna be discouraged.
I got my license through CR England, stayed there for 3 months then went to JB Hunt and I’ve been here since then. Almost 2 years of experience, no damage to vehicles, etc. I just wish the pay was better
Where you at my friend? I left too their activity pay is bad. Go with union company like I did that pays 30 hourly (ports). My 2nd choice was Alberstons in socal they pay 33/hr. Try costco or walmart. Any mega carrier is trash pay because of all the new drivers coming in (no disrespect everyone was new before even me - just stating facts) and mega carriers have to keep the pay super low to stay afloat vs private big companies they don't need to slash drivers pay as much (they focus on slashing cashiers pay more). @@atlantistruck SoCal, I don’t know about unions, but I’ll look at Albertsons and stuff. I make pretty good pay compared to other job, but that’s because of my own work ethic. I make around $1,900/week. That’s why I’m still here vs others pay around $1,500/week.
@@atlantistruck I talked to a guy that drove for I think for Stator Bros and he said they pay $30/hr, but you had to do things like be “on call” for like 18 months, so no guaranteed work for 18 months and that’s BS. If I work I better be hired on straight away

If you have less than 2 years experience go into food service or beverage. GFS, Sysco, US Foods, Coca Cola, Pepsi, these companies will hire with no experience and they are constantly hiring.
There are a bunch of big name carriers thatll hire anyone off the street with a drivers license, put you through a few week long trucking school and then put you on the roads. Now getting hired with no experience by a quality trucking carrier thatll youll enjoy and has a good reputation is harder because you dont become a good company hiring just anybody.

I got a CDL through a government program, and I found a job hauling wood chips. There are more companies who are willing to take you on than you'd think, but you have to look around. This job is hourly, local, and they paid for my training time at a normal rate too. Other places who do the same thing want either a few months or a couple of years before they would be willing to hire me, but this one got me anyway.
You literally just admitted you break the TFWP program rules. You are required to train Canadians if you cannot find applicants before turning to the TFWP.

Serious question: Im looking to get into trucking and I can not decide between going to a college accredited 8week cdl course or going to somewhere like prime to get my cdl. Dont want to go to school and then wait for months bc no one wants to hire a new license holder. I hear prime will train and then put you with a trainer then lease to you.. but any input is appreciated for sure! Also im located in Florida but willing to travel for months before needing home time.
How to get hired as a newly licensed driver: 1: take your CDL and put it into the shredder. 2: find work in another industry. Seriously, becoming a new driver right now is a very bad idea. It's only going to hurt the industry further, and the new driver is going to struggle as well

That's the worst way, If you have a local community college that offers a truck driving program it should cost you a few hundred dollars to get your CDL, the average independent truck driving school is like $3K, the average mega carrier sponsored program is like $5K plus a contract to either work for them for usually 2 years or pay the full $5K. Getting a student loan then going to the same mega carrier they will generally pay you tuition reimbursement and have no contract.
Answer this. I know a guy who was refused a job because he hasn't driving for 5 years. He's been retired. They want a driver to have driven within the last 3 years. Whats up with that? T4TV'S.

@hoaacres7084 Yes, I do. Insurance companies are setup to generate profits and steal from those who are affected. Once the claims affect their profits, they simply deny the claims. Take Florida for instance, once the hurricane came and affected their profits, they all packed up and left. How many people pay for health insurance and come down with something and die because the insurance refused to pay the claims. Wake up man, insurance companies hate you and would rather that you just die.
Lol imagine being your own business and being a slave to insurance companies got my cdl in November last year gave the trucking industry a fair shake and to my short experience a driver few years more experienced than me got lazy and got a 10k over weight ticket so dot started pulling my company truck into the scales and id say that was my disappointment for the industry that made me hang up the keys. we run at 80k lbs a lot so be safe out there if you do come on.

Same here. I got my license through Prime and never left. I love it at Prime and we're still making good money.

Driving schools are a joke, I got my license almost 1.5 years ago. I learnt to drive while working. The schools are there for just money.

That's the worst way, If you have a local community college that offers a truck driving program it should cost you a few hundred dollars to get your CDL, the average independent truck driving school is like $3K, the average mega carrier sponsored program is like $5K plus a contract to either work for them for usually 2 years or pay the full $5K. Getting a student loan then going to the same mega carrier they will generally pay you tuition reimbursement and have no contract.
Long haul new driver long days many miles 3 to 4 weeks before 3 day break. $990 a week before tax😮🎉🎉🎉😢
Good companies hire students from good schools, and have continue training plus Insurance is the real reason.
Bison trains new drivers but they must work for them for 2 years or pay for their training.
Answer this. I know a guy who was refused a job because he hasn't driving for 5 years. He's been retired. They want a driver to have driven within the last 3 years. Whats up with that?

@hoaacres7084 Yes, I do. Insurance companies are setup to generate profits and steal from those who are affected. Once the claims affect their profits, they simply deny the claims. Take Florida for instance, once the hurricane came and affected their profits, they all packed up and left. How many people pay for health insurance and come down with something and die because the insurance refused to pay the claims. Wake up man, insurance companies hate you and would rather that you just die.

Lol imagine being your own business and being a slave to insurance companies got my cdl in November last year gave the trucking industry a fair shake and to my short experience a driver few years more experienced than me got lazy and got a 10k over weight ticket so dot started pulling my company truck into the scales and id say that was my disappointment for the industry that made me hang up the keys. Cant wait to see the asset class cry about it lol.
