- 8 punts have a great Christmas sail on 27th December 2015.
Sailing across the fleets against a ripping tide, through punt alley, over sunken Island and up to Penny Hole. On the trip back we sailed right over Cobmarsh Island, a first for me, and had a play around on St Peters Meadow and around the house boats.

Skilful sailing and great films. I am a fellow duckpunt sailer in Chichester. Happy New Year! Please give my best wishes to John and Ann Milgate. John was so helpful to me whilst I was building my duckpunt.
Hi Andrew, thanks for your comment and Happy Punting this year. I will pass on your comments to John and Pat.
Very good, a nice video and nice boats. Simplicity is at the base of a great success ;)
Nice Video, your handling with the oar and rope look so easy.
thanks for the video, glad to see you all out and about again. I've not had the chance to get out in my punt this year as it has been a particularly bad one for me. however fingers crossed for 2016. can you tell me if you have a register for our type of punts and if you issue numbers for them? it think it would be nice to continue keeping a numbering system for punts all over the world who want them?
kind regards
Julian
Truly nice!
Thanks for the comment, hope you have a better year and get out more. Regarding the sail numbers, I'll speak to Tags who has the latest list, which I think is up to 28 on the Mersea jigs. I'll let you know.
Interesting boats. I suppose these are for very light wind? Whats their wind range?
well done chaps - dylan the light punter
Your punt videos always make me smile. Can you tell me how you have your camera rigged so it stays on you after you tack and change sides? If you have it on the boom I am baffled.
Thanks, I got a new camera for Christmas which came with a cycling bundle. The camera is clamped, upside down, to the boom and is very secure.
It looks like those boats have such a shallow draft they could sail on dry land.
cheers. Guess a mirror rig without jib would be too much?
you could probably get away with a slightly larger rig. Anything much bigger would need stays as it would put too much pressure on the thwart.
Hi. I have just built a Punt myself. Took about 8 solid days. Sailed it at Mersea on Monday and very pleased with it. I can turn away from the wind fine but round up into the wind is not so easy without a bit of paddling. Am I missing something? How often do you guys meet up? Stirling.
Hi Stirling, When rounding up you need to sheet the sail and move your weight forward. If the punt is going forward it also helps to lean it to leeward so that it follows the chine. Regarding when we go out, we have a Facebook page which I will try to update, we don't have any dates organised yet but I will post them on the page. If you private message me your mobile number I will text you next time we sail.
Yes very true. Anyone tried fitting a dagger board, or am i missing the point?
We have tried messing around with lee boards, but to set them on each tack was a bit of a faff. The beauty of the punts is that you can sail in 4 inches of water and that they are so simple. However we do call going to windward against the tide "A beat of a thousand tacks!"
Hi, love your punt. Is that an optimist rig?
Yes it is an Oppi rig, perfect size for the punt and lots is sails and spars around.
Only an idiot starts building one of these just after Christmas, when it turns wet and cold, too cold for epoxy . I should know - I am he. ( On Hayling Island , Chichester harbour on Andrew Bartlett's moulds.
Good luck with the build, now that it has warmed up a bit hopefully the glue should set!
Keep us posted with your progress.
