Its more than that, it has to do with the phasing of the mics and shit, on some high end headphones it does make a huge difference. Which using those is the best way to be able to hear it. But with a low end set I couldn’t tell a difference, though this shit definitely ain’t ground breaking as this tech has been around since the late 90s or early 00s.
Yes, it seems this guy never had the chance to listen to a good quality stereo recorder... I have a zoom H4 for many years and its better than that. Although UA-cam probably compress and destroy audio quality...
It's actually a bit different than simple stereo... it's binaural recording, because the microphones are located on your ears. Your external ears and your head affect the sound coming to the microphones, due to physics/acoustics and make the recording sound more life-like, than if you simply set up two microphones on a stand (without your head being there), to make a regular stereo recording. Of course, binaural isn't new, either... but this is a slightly unusual product, because most headphones don't have binaural mics built in... so there at least a little unique. And at the price, I consider them to be a bargain for people who have an interest in binaural recording, whether it's your typical nature sounds, or even bootleg concert recordings (these could easily pass as plain old headphones). If you actually listened to the video, with a good pair of headphones, you can tell the mics are pretty good, and it's not simply a 'stereo' recording.
I was listening in my Samsung AKG earphones with the Dolby Atmos turned on and 3:37 was really really incredible and I don't have enough words to tell my experience.
Stereo is two microphones playing whatever audio they received at the exact same time, but this is not how our ears perceive sound. Sound is a relatively slow wave, unlike light, for example. So sound coming from your right will be heard by your right ear before your left. You don’t notice the delay, though, because your brain calculates it too quickly. Stereo does not account for this delay, but binaural does. So it is this delay that sets binaural apart from stereo. Calculating the delay of sound from one ear to the other is one step closer to the reproduction of sounds in the real world. It is also why it is necessary to use headphones while listening. Unfortunately, as we can see in these comments, it’s not always easy to hear the difference between the two, thus justifying stereo as “good enough” for the average consumer market. I would love to see binaural implemented into consumer level products, but there isn’t enough demand and the technology can get quite complicated pretty quickly.
A million years ago when everything was Analog I used to love to experiment with Audio systems. Guaranteed the quality and the clarity of sound was not the same but I mixed many sounds that sounded pretty much similar to this. In fact you can hear a similar effect although not to the same fidelity at 2:00 on Highway Star in Deep Purple’s Machine Head LP which was released back in 1972
This is amazing! Oh my goodness! Do you know what kind of things we can do with headsets like this?! We can use this to transform learning experiences. We can also use it to help people who don't get the opportunity to get to travel much (like patients in hospitals or special needs) get to experience the outside world! This is just too cool!!!
Really enjoying your upload frequency Lew, also nice change shooting downstairs regularly, showing various products, at the same time keeping the traditional on table videos
@You Were Born To Sing With The Guitar It was just a joke, not a literal comment but since you like to explain things, I'll explain too. ASMR is not just stereo. It incorporates a recording method called *Binaural Recording.* The 3D audio you mention is a loose term wrongly used on the internet. It's mostly used as a marketing tool. In headphones for example, it could say that they support 3D audio, which is nothing but software simulated surround sound. With a binaural recording you achieve true "3D" audio even though it's theoretically stereo.
@@John_Stur actually you’re wrong. ASMR doesn’t always mean binaural. Some ASMR may use binaural audio effect/science to achieve ASMR. Literally from wiki, “Autonomous sensory meridian response, sometimes auto sensory meridian response, is a tingling sensation that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine.” Binaural audio is just one method to achieve this feeling.
I love using my binaural mic for creating music, video game sound effects, timelapse's or recording my commentary while in the wild/city, it feels so much more real and _immersive._
This is actually amazing... Everyone making UA-cam videos should use this kind of sound recording along with their cameras. Actually, why don't companies just put this in their cameras!!
The reason isn't cost. Iff you want an explanation on the actual reason read on... Binaural equipment can actually be relatively inexpensive and you can build a DIY binaural recording setup pretty easily. The way binaural recording works is it uses the natural distance between your ear drums by spacing our the mics at that distance. Since it takes a an environmental sound slightly longer to get to one ear mic than the other it gives the listening the impression that the sound is oriented on a 3D plane even though the incoming sound could very well be mono. The actual reason that it would be impractical to do this is because this binaural (fake 3D) effect can only be heard if the listener is using headphone or earbuds as the L and R sound source must be directly playing at the listeners ear spacing. If the listener was to listen over speakers it will sound badly mixed and lack the 3D feeling. Since listeners on youtube don't all wear headphones when watching videos it would be safer to use a traditional setup (even though it is often a little more money) because a stereo field recorder will produce a good sounding mix on both speaker systems and headphones. Thus traditional recording is better as it suits all listeners. This isn't to say that binaural is bad, just that binaural is meant for a very specific thing and is a really great thing in it's own way. I think when it comes to something like VR for instance binaural and ambisonic formats are much better for giving a spatial representation of sound and far outdo traditional stereo surround in this particular case. Side note: if you want to build your own binaural setup you not only need 2 mics spaced ear length apart but also a head or fake head to place in between them to act as baffling since the human head naturally baffles incoming sounds coming from the opposite side of the head. Apologies for the big rant. I do binaural recording as a hobby and thought I'd share the knowledge.
Also video cameras are usually intended to be small and efficient, always putting a human ear/head shaped microphone on every camera would be very inefficient. So stereo works fine on most cameras
@@ItsLtime Yeah that's fair, I think a good balance of both is important. If I were to pick I'd rather have a slightly lower quality video if it sounds decent because I can get more immersed in it but it also kind of depends on the person as well as their hardware.

Well there are some things about this mic setup that make it binaural, for example most binaural mics are integrated into a dummy head which takes in consideration of the head shadow (obstruction of soundwaves by your head). This is pretty much the same configuration but instead of a dummy head you get a real head. I think the only difference is the lack of a resonance chamber from a dummy head, which mimics the way sound is passed through the ears.
Trust me, as a blind person recording in binaural is one heck of a wild experience. I'd love to see how this Ambio Smart headset matches up to the Hookverse. It uses Bluetooth to record, but last June I actually recorded a friend of mine singing in a karaoke bar and it was wild.
I have them, they worked for a while with my Z3 then stopped (the noise cancelling option wasnt enabled) and did the same thing on my XZ. So I assume the 5 pole connectors in the phones don't work for long. I even cleaned them as the phones are waterproof
@@mithunbalachander3616 I actually put them on my watch list recently, the ones that don't work now were white from amazon. The ebay ones are black. Although they don't activate NC now, sony audio recorder shows the left mic working but way lower volume than the right, so maybe it's a faulty headset. I like the bass on the NC31E, shame they can't be used on other devices, they fit well too
Hands on my PC... and it sounds amazing! I never knew that PC audio can work so well All we need now is: magnifying / focal glasses, so we can get a true 3d experience Tactile suits, to make the 3d more real And a mild muffling effect to make background sounds feel more distant
This is dope, especially with good quality earbuds, that are also light and can't feel on my ears so the sound just makes me emersed in the simulations
All you really hearing is sound stage. My Polk's are set up proper distance apart. So i not hearing sound from right or left speaker. If you walk across a stage with heavy noisy shoes i going to hear every step moving from right to left knowing where you are on stage with out seeing you !!
The triangle of sound, been around for a good while, but yeah it's cool. They record with four mics. Two together facing outward and two more,a left and right mic spaced apart also facing outwards to each point of a triangle that you the listener would be sitting in the middle of, the mic inputs are fed into a four jack input box with a single stereo jack output, the final recording is listened to in stereo.
this is not actual binaural recording because microphones are not in your ears and it really metters cuz the sound reflets from your ear not only outside but deep inside as well
Came back to this with the updated SPATIAL AUDIO / AirPods Pro... and let me say it works and when it went around the back of your head it tripped me out....
You can listen to 3d and above using normal headphones. I use headphones called Ash and it's fantastic with binaural sounds, especially when I connect them to my Lenovo Tab which has Dolby Atmos👌
This is a cool video. I like those Sennheiser headphones with binaural microphones. They create some realistic audio effects to go along with the recorded video.

MARVEL FAN the bew discovery is in the device, not the ears.
Skrittle Person you right
Sony introduced binaural recordings several years before with Sony NC31E noise cancelling headphones...
It was way ahead of its time...
I have them, they worked for a while with my Z3 then stopped (the noise cancelling option wasnt enabled) and did the same thing on my XZ. So I assume the 5 pole connectors in the phones don't work for long. I even cleaned them as the phones are waterproof
@@JonnyMorgan18 you can buy NC31E from eBay I bought it and I am using it with my Xperia x and works great.
@@mithunbalachander3616 I actually put them on my watch list recently, the ones that don't work now were white from amazon. The ebay ones are black. Although they don't activate NC now, sony audio recorder shows the left mic working but way lower volume than the right, so maybe it's a faulty headset.
I like the bass on the NC31E, shame they can't be used on other devices, they fit well too
He said not to buy iphone x but still using it
I mean i like him but this..
Wow what a madlad
Um.. The conecter for the headphones are for apple dip shit
@@spicytuna6656 eat feces
Woah that was amazing
I'll be honest. I just liked the vid because it brought back memories from my trip to Toronto
Alets Kun tell me about it🙂
@@bialsarwar1928 Yes
It was NYC I thought
this was 5 years ago now we think of 3d audio as a normal thing
Wow, amazing. When he moves speaker over his head where definitely dope.
First thought when watching this video, have you heard of ASMR?
This is not something new to us right? lol
ASMR is for retarded people.
Well shit... guess I have downs 🤷
king raider Yes, I am retarded and I ENJOY asmr.
I need that kind of audio in every movie and especially video games like PUBG.
Akshay Gupta movies and games usually do
You need a surround gaming headset for that. I have a logitech G430 with 7.1 surround sound, works like a charm.
Actually stereo sound gives the best positional audio for most games.
They should put these in the loot boxes, So we can out them on our characters that would make it way easier.
Try Boom3D its really good for simulated surround sound, use it for everything
Hands on my PC... and it sounds amazing! I never knew that PC audio can work so well
All we need now is:
magnifying / focal glasses, so we can get a true 3d experience
Tactile suits, to make the 3d more real
And a mild muffling effect to make background sounds feel more distant
This is dope, especially with good quality earbuds, that are also light and can't feel on my ears so the sound just makes me emersed in the simulations
6:03 i thought there was something scratching in my side...Cool💯
3:50 ok ok 355 getting creepy 358 IM GONNA BE KILLEd
All you really hearing is sound stage. My Polk's are set up proper distance apart. So i not hearing sound from right or left speaker. If you walk across a stage with heavy noisy shoes i going to hear every step moving from right to left knowing where you are on stage with out seeing you !!
Damn I'm deaf in one ear 😂
My left ear is sensitive and it's ANNOYING.
XD
It would be great if we can have a imaginary world like ready player one
we will
WHITE FALCON its called Vr, and they are Making one like the movie to move safely
do you mean Sword Art Online lul
@@DarkyBoy ah man of culture
Hy Lewis, this is one of your most interesting videos. Would love you see you doing an Unboxing using this headphone. Good day! 😄
This is my favorite Unbox Therapy headphones video! Good job!
Awesomeness at 5:35, this is where video shooting shines.
This tech has been around since the ‘60’s. They keep giving it new, trendy names like “binaural” audio but it’s just well applied stereo.
YAY... ... I never knew it was that old... :)
I remember you used to get LP records in the 1960s to show this same thing.
No, it´s not just "well applied stereo", wtf xD
They are actually incredibly good
The triangle of sound, been around for a good while, but yeah it's cool. They record with four mics. Two together facing outward and two more,a left and right mic spaced apart also facing outwards to each point of a triangle that you the listener would be sitting in the middle of, the mic inputs are fed into a four jack input box with a single stereo jack output, the final recording is listened to in stereo.
So you hear what your ears really heard!!
This was a amazing with headphones
It gives me goosebumps, a little bit creepy
Eagerly waiting for a Chinese rip off..😊
XD you understand amazon, don’t ‘cha?
Venky S some years before this one
A Chinese rip off of Sennheiser that's gonna be able to create even a quarter of the quality? Nah
this is not actual binaural recording because microphones are not in your ears and it really metters cuz the sound reflets from your ear not only outside but deep inside as well
Omg I would love these earbuds I have hearing aids and is a hassle to take them out and put in my earbuds this could make my life so much easier!!!!
When it went around my head I started tripping out😂
Jason Hoselton the back of my head had like a tickling reaction to it
Baseball Highlights people nicknamed that "tingles" and it's a common reaction to ASMR
Jason Hoselton not me I had the experience it already
Me 2
Unbox Therapy ASMR xD
FlyingMan screw 3Dio mic hahahahaha bring the Sennheiser mic
Imagine Uncle Lew doing a tapping and whispering ASMR video :DDD
"Hey guys! welcome to a new ASMR video! today we'll do some tapping on the new razer phone and some scratching oh the glass!" xD
Came back to this with the updated SPATIAL AUDIO / AirPods Pro... and let me say it works and when it went around the back of your head it tripped me out....
@Unboxtherapy
I think many people would have the same question
What about Android Phones?
I exactly had that on my mind
Unbox Therapy Reported, get a life
Unbox Therapy what is this Lew
Nithin Pradeep It's not Lew, it doesn't even have subscribers
Charles V. XD i did the same
You can listen to 3d and above using normal headphones. I use headphones called Ash and it's fantastic with binaural sounds, especially when I connect them to my Lenovo Tab which has Dolby Atmos👌
Damn dude, I'm wearing my skullcandy ANC crushers listening to this. Everytime you hit the table it shakes my noggin!!! Hats off to your mic's! 🤯🤯🤯
I got AirPods Pro, but skull candy is a great pair of earbuds for the price
This is a cool video. I like those Sennheiser headphones with binaural microphones. They create some realistic audio effects to go along with the recorded video.
