One of the best ways to listen to spatial sound mapping is with the Smyth A16 realiser... or the A8.... the A8 has been around for almost 20 yrs... the A16 has been around for around 4 years... the A16 has 24 channels of spatial sound via your choice of headphones.... it is amazing sounding.... better than any IMAX with Atmos... one of the biggest facts about the A16 is that you can record any speaker then put that recording into a virtual room... so lets say you record a speaker that would cost $10,000 per speaker.... now you create a virtual sound room... lets say a configuration of 15.1.8 ( 24 channels ) in that room... so you have now created a virtual room where the speakers alone would cost you $240,000 .... but all you did was borrow that speaker so the virtual room didn't cost you anything.. now you get a very nice set of headphones like the HD800 that will run you around $1200.... but... they will reproduce that $240,000 virtual sound room just like you were sitting in there in your favorite chair.... the A16 is amazing

Sony is just the best at what they do. Using a XB700 that isn’t rated for spatial audio and yet I could experience the effect at least to an extent. Meanwhile most other vendors tend to market it as something that requires a different device.
Spatial audio can be achieved by using a surround sound system in your home , a surround sound system consists of numerous speakers of different sizes , the main large ones are next to the flat screen and the smaller ones are placed around the four corners of the room so the sound is projected towards you and everyone else from all sides.
I heard this through my SoundPeats TruAir2 and my S-11 TWS and I liked the way it sounded with the S-11 TWS. This was playing on my Moto G Stylus. I have yet to try on my LG which will most likely sound better. Listened to this on my LG K50 and it DOES sound better than on my Moto G Stylus using both Bluetooth headphones. Sad thing is , they don't really utilize this to full extent in movies and most video games. What you're seeing here is carefully sound engineering to sell the product or show its capabilities in a fancy way.
I need to clear some things up about this: The Sony's 360-degree spatial mapping complements what is already in the movies from Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, so it is NOT, I repeat NOT a separate surround sound format. It simply is technology that makes use of the decoding from Atmos and DTS:X to create a more enveloping and robust soundstage without having to go to a full surround setup with numerous speakers and expensive amps and connections. THAT IS THE POINT. Let me cut and paste this from the actual sale page for this product: "360 Spatial Sound Mapping for a whole new surround experience with Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X®". Also, the reason it sounds so good in the headphones. is this will be similar to how it will sound in your room when setup correctly...that is the point also...total surround sound from 4 speakers, center channel (you should use a compatible speaker for the center channel connection, for example), and the more expensive of the two subs offered for this setup. DO NOT BUY THIS WITHOUT THE HIGHER TIER SUB COMPLEMENTING THIS SETUP. The point of movies also is deep and separate bass.
Crazy how I remember this sort of thing being demonstrated on a 80s TV show Tomorrow's World..simultaneously broadcast on radio 1 so you could record on tape. And here we are and music still not really picking up on it. Movies games etc different entirely of course, 5.1 being bare minimum nowadays
Dont get me wrong. This is superb. Im listening to it with my new Samsung ear Pods 2 Pro. But it's not the kind of 360 experience I was hoping for. To me, it's more of a behind me, left side to right side, sound immersion. Of course I can hear sounds from above but nothing really projects out in front of me. It's the same thing when I listen to these 8d music videos on UA-cam. The sound just "swims" from left to right and has the perception that it is behind me. Why can't they bring it right round to the front area creating the illusion of depth and distance? If I'm sitting in front of an ocean I want to hear the waves in front of me not behind me.
bad quality earphones, you need an audiophile open back headphones or any good headphone or IEM that has superb imaging and staging or better yet an actual 7.1 surround sound speaker system, oh and also you need a playback that supports the actual 360, youtube doesn't actually support it, its being compressed to regular stereo imaging.

What would be the difference between this and Dolby Atmos ? They seem to be creating the same effect, Atmos by encoding the sound properties of objects. No idea about Sony's 360 spatial mapping tech.
Wow, this was ... disappointing 😢 In tech-demos, the sound does appear to come from different directions, especially from behind the head. But it feels like 5% of what you experience in real life. It is nothing that will make you turn your head in surprise because you think someone/something is behind you. Listening to music (on ArtistConnection with WF-1000XM3), 360RA is not much different from stereo. With music, sound coming from behind is just weird and doesn't make sense. You look at a concert stage with singer and instruments standing _in front of you_, but some of the music seems to come _from behind you_?! The 360RA experience is free. Still, just registering a Sony account and awkwardly taking pictures of my ears was too much work for what I got out of it.
I want to laugh, but please, this is just stereo sound, and did existed for almost half century. All the headphone and earphone pair that you are hearing are having stereo left and right sound. You might think "stereo" is lame, but stereo is the most basic 3D sound, the same sound you have been hearing since the invention of portable cassette player Walkman. The main different between the one you hear at here and the one you hear at music playing is music playing doesn't playing much on the stereo effect of the sound, it emphasize more on fidelity. On movie, this is where the stereo sound magic appear, it can use the advantage of the stereo (how our ear hearing with left and right ear to figure out the direction and position of the sound) to create the pseudo 3D sound. The effect only remain strong if hearing using headphone or earphone where both our ears are fully covered. The effect is less effective if hearing using normal stereo speaker (boombox, HiFi radio), there's why at cinema, there are more than 10 speakers, at the side wall, at the back of the hall, and at the front top, front bottom, front left, front right, to create the directional and positional sound. Then, there has been virtual surround sound technology available for nearly 30 years, where some TV that has stereo speaker has setting for virtual surround sound mode, you probably heard before something like Trusurround, NICAM, space sound, 3D sound, Bomba sound, etc, any TV with stereo speakers. So, it is just a good old stereo sound you has been hearing for years.
