After listening to half of this I had a round with 27 putts, a big part because I applied the same principles to chipping and got several very close . Good stuff.
Practicing putting, initially, feels very tedious at times. But it's information like this that encourages me to keep at it. "Drive for show. Putt for dough." Thanks for posting this audiobook!
Hi guys, greetings from Oamaru. I loved the reference to signing a check regarding putting - so true! I too have been reminded of the silly phrase "never up, never in" from my playing partners when I leave a putt 6 inches short. My answer to that is "I've never seen a putt that's gone 3 feet past the cup go in either"! Thanks for uploading.
According to the National Science Foundation, 84.6% of all putts that come up short is the direct result of some degree of de acceleration through the ball impact area. They concluded in their study, a collaboration between NSF and the USGA that the causal effect of putts coming up short is a mechanical issue and not a mis read of the speed of the green. So the next time you hear 'never up never in' just remember they're unknowingly saying there was deacceleration in your putting stroke. Accelerate through the ball and you'll eliminate the chance of the ball coming up short while improving the odds of the ball finding the hole. ⛳️
Bobby Jones said, “I’ve never seen a putt past the hole go in either.” Dave Pelz says 18” past is the ideal touch. I’m more like Bobby but play to 12” over. Whatever works. Many lines to a putt and over a million ways to advance the ball (Homer Kelley.) PenguinGolf
I bought the book and listened to the podcast many times. In theory this sounds great but unfortunately I have the putting yips. I can do it all on the practice green but the minute i go into a competition I 3 to 4 put nearly every hole. Can anyone recommend a book that can help with the yips as i can handle it anymore. Cheers
Easy mate! Step one Figure out if the Yip is more on your left or right hand Step Two Then adjust your putting Grip to minimise or eliminate the effect that yippie hand on has on the club face (left hand low , arm lock or pencil/cawl) Step three Face the fear of a dead straight 2 foot putt with the new Grip. Get comfortable holing at least 30 to 50 putts in a row and with every putt that goes in reassuring yourself that that’s like you to make it. Step four Start to add challenge to your practice so that it is as challenging if not more challenging than what you find on the golf course Shall I make a video on this process?

@@CoachGurney thanks so much for reply, really appreciate it. I get what you mean, I always miss left. I adjust my putter at home to overcome this, but when I hit the course. I forget everything when I am under any kind of pressure. Had lessons from my club pro but I told him Im probably one of the best putters in Australia on the practice green. But then I step onto the course and hit nearly every green in regulation, then 3 or 4 put? I will go and try what you suggest and see if it helps. I spend hours chipping tobtry and get the ball to close for putting.

Sometimes the problem for me is that practice greens are much slower than the real ones,... but indeed I will need to practice putting more frequently

Care like a child cares. Without thought of failure, only excitement to watch the ball fall in the hole.
