  • A short story on how this new technology is shaping and moving beyond the bitcoin hype. In this talk, Daniel will attempt to reveal the principle behind Blockchain, its potential to defy current systems and why Blockchain is probably the biggest technological invention since the PC in the 1970s and the Internet in the 1990s.
Daniel Gasteiger is an entrepreneur based in Zurich, co-founder of nexussquared. Daniel carries a driving passion to support and further develop the Swiss blockchain ecosystem. He embodies more than 20 years of experience in financial services - starting out as an FX trader at Credit Suisse, he then joined UBS in a variety of roles including until recently, managing the Chairman’s office as a Managing Director. In his recent co-authored whitepaper, “Act Now or Follow Later”, he achieves a remarkable ‘call to action’ by describing why Switzerland must seize the Fintech challenge.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Title is misleading, the speaker said nothing actually demystifying the blockchain.

I'm sorry but I must have missed the part where he demystified blockchain.
All I heard was a bunch of half-baked might-be ideas, analogies, features and essentially elevator pitches for utilizing blockchain technology.
There was no explanation of how exactly blockchain operates and that was my expectation going into this talk.
    Very disappointed.

Mine too. The claim that it can't be hacked, controlled centrally, or BitCoins duplicated, makes me suspicious. I was hoping this would explain how such an impossibility might be possible.

That's not what was offered or suggested by the title. It's not a technical talk and he doesn't discuss specific implementations of the block chain principle. However, said principle(s) are clearly enumerated in the talk. Don't write it off as useless just because you wanted to be spoon-fed and are too lazy to invest something into understanding the key point of the talk.

Great talk! It is certainly moving beyond bitcoin and even beyond Fintech. Now it is reaching into solving some pressing problems in the health care industry. It will be exciting to see how this technology combined with other breakthroughs, like genomics, artificial intelligence, and mobile health could change just about every area of our lives.

Yeah! many of us benefit from using blockchain, and those whosearch for a good ICO to invest will benefit twice. As it is a future development of cryptocurrency. For example TokenGO has own blockchaine that provide wide services like voting, mining, trading, making own ICO and others. So we reaaly should look for a good ICO like TokenGO to invest and be ones who lead

Seriously, if you think it can get worse about stupid blockchain talks, it definitely can! If in a few years everybody is wondering why there was a FinTech crash as there was a DotCom crash, this video is a must-seen to understand what went horribly wrong: Incompetent people that are trying to force stupid ideas into a technology that is not built for what these people think. No wonder he worked for UBS ...

    Blockchain technology is faulty.
IMHO both Bitcoin and ETH/ETC are doomed to fail in the long run as they suffer from following fatal design flaws that stem from Blockchain
    technology itself:
The blockchain distributed ledger pioneered by Bitcoin is effective at preventing double-spending, but inherently attracts (1) user cartels in the form of mining monopolies and (2) incompressible delays, as a result of linear verification and a winner-takes-all incentive lottery.
Now we propose to forgo the “blocks” and “chain” entirely, and build a truly distributed ledger system based on a lean graph of cross-verifying transactions, which now become the main and only objects in the system.
Our new cryptocurrency codenamed “Substar” under active development will be the world’s first unchained (Blockchain-free) decentralized cryptocurrency capable of hyperfast validation (< 1sec) and built-in resistance to 51% and 33% attack vectors that plague all contemporary decentralized cryptocurrencies e.g. Bitcoin and Ethereum. Unlike Bitcoin and Ethereum, Substar will not be constrained by hardwired extremely slow validation of transactions.

Seriously.... what is he on about ??? He demystified absolutely nothing at all!! Given the title of the talk I had high hopes to learn something but when I attended this talk I could not have been more disappointed! Just vague blah blah blah with no real content to the talk! Not to mention Danny you looked like you have just been dragged thru a bush. Very poor personal presentation and you seriously need a lot more practice in front of an audience to be convincing. Who the hell told you that you that this was a good idea. I almost felt sorry for you?...almost!! Just Tragic!

You wrote that: I participated in this discussion, I could not have been more disappointed! Only vague blah blah blah with no real content to the discussion! ..... Very poor personal presentation and you seriously need a lot more practice in front of an audience to be convincing.
It's not a discussion! There is a lecture. If you know what it is. He tells just how it is. And may become. That is how he explains what Blockchain is. Although you obviously do not get it. I do it anyway.
And yes, he's probably not as comfortable speaking before a large audience. But for the need one can not be shitty. As you huh.

    • @jz1516
      @jz1516 7 років тому +1

Actually Annie, firstly I did not say " I participated in this discussion" please take the time next time to read comments properly as I said I attended the talk, and perhaps check your synonyms for lecture:= talk, speech, address, discourse, disquisition, presentation, oration, lesson, recitation, monologue, sermon, etc etc..... so yes I do know what a lecture is. Secondly I also know what Blockchain is but given that I have no need to explain it to you because you say you already know. Good for you!! so very happy for you!! "I do it anyway"...what does that mean, what is this "it" you refer to? ...." But for the need one can not be shitty. As you huh" No idea what this is supposed to mean, this sentence in English makes little sense. If you are referring to my comment about personal presentation then, I stand by what I said, the presentation was poor, both content and personal. Yes everyone has to start somewhere but please not with a TED talk. I am certainly not "shitty" I just did not think his presentation was any good, it "demystified" nothing. I learnt nothing and found him difficult to understand. He mumbles and if his unshaven appearance and scruffy clothes were supposed to make him look like some cool techie dude, it was a waste of time. My opinion, for which I am entitled to, as you are to yours. Perhaps you would best not to focus on what I wrote and focus on your own comments before you post them.
I am sure you will take umbrage at my comments but should you feel the need to reply further, please don't bother, I will be deleting it. It's not worth any further energy.
I wish you nevertheless a nice day.
