- For centuries, inventors and entrepreneurs have often been hesitant to share new ideas for fear of these ideas getting stolen. There is substantial value in sharing developing ideas to get feedback, and proof of concept, however, there's also a risk in doing so. The traditional ways of protecting intellectual property-copyrights, trademarks, and patents- are slow, expensive, and cumbersome.
This talk proposes another way of protecting intellectual property that's faster, easier, and cheaper all made possible through blockchain technology. Through the creation of tamper-proof, time-stamped, digital smart contracts, creators can now protect intellectual property with greater ease, flexibility, and speed. Blockchains enable a public ledger that's decentralized, distributed, and global to prove ownership. The result is a new world of innovation and abundance.
The system proposed in this talk not only allows those who have used traditional protection mechanisms like copyright to have a faster way to protect their property, it provides a much more accessible option for those who could not afford traditional methods of intellectual property.
Kary is dedicated to helping authors, entrepreneurs, and others publish, protect, and promote their intellectual property, setting free their world-changing ideas.
An award-winning novelist, screenwriter, and inventor, he’s been featured in Entrepreneur, CBS, Fox News, Yahoo, and many other major media outlets. When it does not constitute a breach of contract, no reproduction of an idea or work should be considered theft, as it results in multiplication and not subtraction.

Thank you for your TEDx talk. This is a hot topic right now and going forward for many creators of content. We spend countless hours creating content of various kinds - posts, books, articles, blogs, websites, videos, original works of art (and so on), only to risk it being pirated, ripped off, or plagiarized. This topic is a growing concern for all of us (on many levels), and affects us monetarily in some or most cases. And...with the rise of AI algorithms that scrub the Internet and spit out data from compiled sources, ownership of works and how to protect (and enforce) our copyright is top of mind for all creators.

Great talk! I am trying to learn more. I would've liked an example or two with a short breakdown of how it's applied or how it works and looks practically to help me understand it a bit better. Like, how does that work for physical product ideas? Do you just have a description of it in a document that's put on blockchain or something? I understand it's useful and well secured, but I'm having trouble understanding how it works in practical interaction and experience. I can't picture what this looks like in actual application, so examples would've been great to help with that, I think. I'll read Kary's book soon. I just haven't had much time to do that yet. Maybe the answers I need are in there. But, overall, I'm glad he shared this overview of blockchain!

Great talk! My only wish is that you had defined an idea or IP a little clearer. For instance, is a storyline for a script or a novel considered to be an idea one can protect in a blockchain? Where does one find parameters for this concept of using blockchains for this purpose?
