I completely agree always give 100%. There will be days that you don’t have 100% to give. On those days give 100% of what you do have.

Great stories as usual! It reminded me of the Masters, 1999, in Augusta, Ga. Someone had rented out the old comedy club to set up a temporary club for the week. Joydrop was playing on the opening night. I was working some random position in the club for some extra cash. Turned out, the planners never got liquor license, so no booze. They ended up not opening the doors that night. Joydrop had already been paid, so the staff of about 10 got a full concert from the band. We all got signed CDs, and got to hang out with them for a while. They put on a great show that night.

Stefan Einhorn believes it is the single most important factor in achieving success and satisfaction in life-being a good person can make you happier, richer, more successful, and fulfilled. Cheers 🥃🥃

You opened for Aerosmith?! Wow! 😮
Side note: the first album I memorized all the lyrics to as their Get A Grip album. 😆 (Also, the Aerosmith and Kiss double billed show was one of my first concerts.)
Also, the screen name "Aeroscorpian" was inspired by them (making up the name Aerosmith), and combining Aerosmith with Scorpion (and Scorpio, my previous screen name).

7:45 That is literally what they did, they just tweaked their barrel blend to change the profile slightly and make it more "classic bourbon"y flavored. They wanted to screw with people and said "See...we can call it Bourbon if we want"
I got less Flintstones and more of the peanut brittle when I had it vs their standard offerings.

also, per Drinkhacker, this Dickel is basically a subset of 'more bourbony-tasting' Dickel barrels. There's no difference in mashbill or process between this and their Tennessee whiskey offerings.

So Daniel I have to ask you have mentioned before that you lived in fort Wayne Indiana for a while did you have any connection to Pierre's nightclub concert venue? Because the entire time I've been watching the whiskey vault and the whiskey tribe I swear I've met you but after this latest video I'm pretty damn sure that I have but if you never worked at Pierre's you must have a doppelganger

  • @UltrahotPeppers

So is the charcoal filtering done right before bottling or right after distillation before putting into oak barrels? I was under the impression that JD is slowly dripped through sugar maple charcoal before barreling. So is Dickel done differently or similarly?

    • @Sman7290
      @Sman7290 9 місяців тому

JD filters the fresh distillate through a 13 foot tall 6 food wide vat of tightly packed Sugar Maple charcoal prior to barreling. It takes 2 full days for it to filter through.
Dickle pours theirs through individual 3 foot tall 2 foot wide barrels filled with large lump Sugar Maple charcoal prior to barreling. It takes 20 minutes to filter through.
They both use the same "process" but the execution is vastly different.

As someone who's performed in a band at four different clubs in Deep Ellum in the 90s, I can definitely feel you on your experience.
And for me personally, at least, I tried that Dickel "bourbon" at a Total Wine several months ago, and I have to say it was the WORST whiskey I've ever tasted. Just bitter and tinny and yeah, no thank you.

Dickel bourbon is exactly the same stuff as Dickel Tennessee whisky, goes through the exact same Lincoln County process, and ages in the exact same barrel houses. But as you know, no two barrels are exactly the same, and some of the barrels don't fit the Dickel Tennessee whisky profile. Those are the barrels that become Dickel bourbon. In other words, the *ONLY* difference between Dickel bourbon and Dickel Tennessee whisky is the profile of the particular barrels.
That - along with the fact that Benjamin Prichard Tennessee whisky does *NOT* use the Lincoln County process - definitively proves that Tennessee whisky is a variety of bourbon.

"Bourbon wars"... being myself, just needed to stretch this muscle, bust some balls, and add something to that... Before watching it in full, I was enlightened about some shitstorm... I was about to write: "bourbon", "Tennessee whisky", "bourbon whisky", "American whisky"... why such a fuss over some meaningless details, if it's all just a barrel cleansers? 😋 And asking if there in US was there some ecological cataclysm, which justifies that before using these barrels to mature actual whisky, then need to disinfect it for 2 or some years before shipping them to Scotland to mature real whisky? 😋
But most interesting thing- why, instead of pouring it down the drain, they sell this used up cleanser in bottles? And why people drink that poison?!?! 😋
But at the end... scratch that out. Great episode 👍Great story 👍 Very motivational - thanks Mr.D, I'll try to use it - and I need it now 👍👍👍
