The 3rd to the last fight, as Sewer Snake takes on Breaker Box, both working their way back through the loser's bracket to try to make it to the final fight. Will the Box Break the Snake?
Wow! For those lifters Sewer Snake has really artistic moves. Fun to watch!

These two are just constantly talking on top of each other. And soon as she starts, he makes a comment. Super annoying
Sewer Snake is my favorite Bot to watch. I haven't been able to follow many Bots in real time , but catch what I can, on youtube. A good horizontal spinner gives him, as with just about any other robot, a lot of trouble, but he has come through against them, with most of it's wheels knocked off. Mr. Matt, and his wife seem very likeable, humble, respectful, and very insightful as to what works and will survive in the arena, and win. One of the best drivers, also.
Yep... I always loved the brutal, massively destructive robots (Razer, Warhead, Nightmare, Son of Whyachi, Mauler and etc... LOVE to see the parts fly and sparks and fire and all that... BUT... it's often those types of weapons that end the match for that robot itself. Flash is fun, but what wins the day is the best overall design, and wedges, dozers and tanks do very well.

Think Matt needs to take more credit for that fight that he did, it was his attack that seemed to knock Breaker Box's batteries out more than anything....
Shame to see the builder of the legendary Nightmare lowering himself to building a wedge these days but I guess that's just the way the sport is going...
Lifter vs lifter fights are always the best IMO... doesn't matter what era.
In the old robot wars scoring,Sewer Snake would have top marks for style. Loved the somersaults of the top of Breaker Box

Not to mention the other guy built Nightmare for the same show.
Stinger is actually a more upgraded version of Sewer Snake

You missed my point. What I'm saying is that every single machine these days is a box with wheels, with the exception of maybe one or two robots. Combat robotics has advanced technologically, but the sport doesn't have the same creativity that made the golden age what it was.
Who knows, though... someone might create something entirely unique and effective. I'm almost inclined to say that Sewer Snake and Breaker Box are pretty close to that themselves.

Jim made a 1lb robot called Shazbot years ago. Breaker Box is essentially a larger version of it.

I honestly wonder why Jim switched from his infamous spinners to a less destructive design. I know that Breaker Box is technically a more effective design, but Jim Smentowski is known for putting vertical spinners on the map.
I miss Nightmare, it was a fun and exciting robot to watch. Not that these new robots aren't as good, but I just miss the unique designs of robotic combat's golden age.
These types of robots are about as interesting as watching UFC submissions, two guys doing jack for 10 mins. We want to see saws and lasers and destruction. ZzzzZzzzzzzZZzZzzzZZzZzzzzz

It's still the closest to a kit you're going to get, unless you take the Battlekits line into account.
What you do with the parts matters the most, of course, but most people just jam them into a box.
That's not what I'm saying. When Nightmare first fought, no one had seen anything like it. It was completely unique at the time. Same goes for Biohazard back in the early days of the sport. No one had seen a robot that could self-right before, and that's before mentioning the engineering that went into that thing.
I don't consider Last Rites creative. Why? Because we've seen that very design everywhere. That's because the parts used are basically available as a kit.
That gives you the electronics. It is hardly a 'kit,' really it is just a tidy way to buy a group of parts.
Also I think that we are confusing creative and original. To build any combat robot you need some level of creativity, and how Ray packs his 'bots is definitely creative. Although I agree originality is a little short.
A lot of robots have the mid/under cutter configuration.
Breaker box would enter battlebots 7 years later, talk about humble roots of a bot.
Sewer Snake reminds me of Disector, except with the exclusion of the arms.
Diesector was my favourite bot growing up and they both have a similar double lifter-arm/ jaw look. I think diesector was more of a grabbing bot and Sewer Snake is more of a lifter.
im sorry but these are much stronger than the old bots, they might not look better but they are far better in a battle

I agree that design has become more and more the same. But a 'Nightmare' like robot wouldn't stay alive. Most 'creative' designs included, And I wouldn't say putting a spinning mass on a robot creative. I think that the main ingenuity left to accomplish in the sport isn't what type of weapon to use but how to keep that weapon functioning or make it the most damaging.
And 3 out of 5 of the top ranked heavyweights ARE spinners. Have you seen the original Robot Wars? The one in America?

+BeefyLightnin Combots and Battlebots are both fine by me :D actually, combots lives up to the standard of battlebots in my opinion. Robots like Megabyte, SewerSnake, Last Rites etc. would do great in almost any robot fighting competition. Not to mention that Last Rites had a bigger 'brother' constructed for Battlebots this year ^^

1wsx10 It would also be too easy to kill an opposing robot with a strong electrical discharge that burns out all the electronics. Like nets, allowing the weapon would take all the fun out of the competition.
