I love this documentary about Australia
They should have probably added some fictional elements to improve the story....
😂😂😂
People fighting to soak up the sun
😂😂😂
Not enough poisonous animals.
This movie still has the greatest explosion of all time.
magnificent no cgi
Particularly incredible is how they only had the one take, and they blew up the set so no more scenes in the compound could be filmed beyond this point. Imagine if they made a mistake like in the Tropic Thunder beginning.
Road Warrior is always criticized as a slower version of Fury Road but no one seems to point out that Road Warrior was smarter. A brilliant diversion, suicide missions, booby-trapped gas tanks and Max using surveillance to survey the battlefield before even approaching the compound! Not to mention the compound defenses looked straight out of the Middle Ages; moats, piles of garbage as walls without mortar, pouring accelerants on their enemies and lighting them on fire, showing how much military technology has declined. Brilliant movie!
Fury Road sucks ass. A huge cluster fuck of a mess.
I'll take this over Fury any day!
FuryRoad is like part 3....there is no dog in Fury Road
Fury road sucks
Always? Where is this "always"? You're just making sh*t up.
1:31 I always like the smile the blonde nurse gives the Gyro-Captain & vise versa. Its like they both know they are doing the right thing.
Love that truck as much as the interceptor
Air start
For you people taking cinema studies in school. The antagonists entering the abandoned camp is one of the few shots in the film that is not mitigated through the consciousness of Max. For the vast majority of the film, what the viewer sees, Max sees. For example, when he is dazed after his attempted escape for the city and the Gyro Pilot picks him up...the scene is shot blurred and muted.
That shot of him being airlifted is one of my favourites. He was really hanging out the side of a helicopter...no CGI here 🙂
Thank you so much for this insight.
1:51 That start up noise the Mack makes is so badass
Air starter
What’s better about this film than all the others , is the complete REALNESS of it all. The sets. The machines. The people. The costumes. All totally real , and functional. No CGI special effects. No filters to make everything look orange. The later movies look like fantastical cartoons. But this film, you could BELIEVE every single character, and every bit of action. We will never have that again in film
Proof that old Macks will survive apocolypse.
Max2 ? Is this Max 2 ?
@@zacharyberry685 Yes it is. Was called The Road Warrior in America when first released
1966 Mack R-600
Gotta love the leak free air system on that fossil. Started up after months, without missing a lick. That's built to last right there! 👍
So will Ole' Max. 🙂
2:22 love the little hesitation when humungus loads the last bullets from the box.
Note that he has a photo of his parents or grandparents in the box. Incredible. Even the Humungous is a person who lost everything.
@@patricksquinlan1If you look at the box, you can also see that it has old war medals in it, many based around Honorable Conduct.
Its likely why Humungous was so hung up about "Honor", albiet a twisted idea of it. His hesitation was likely him momentarilly pondering on his beliefs in that moment... Before deciding there was no turning back.
@@Victor-056Humungus was originally set to be Goose, and his gang the remnants of the police force turned scavangers...
@@patricksquinlan1 there's also a Totenkopf...
@@el_killorcure So that explains the mask and the burn scars under.
Nothing sounds as good as those old air starters.
Sweet Jesus, what a movie.
Even Max wanted the chance to drive the ol 2 stick Mack again
Good ol double clutch
Not bad considering Mel couldn’t get the hang of a quad box.
is one stick for low gears and the other for high gears?
When I saw this back in the 80's I never have ever seen such a large explosion in a movie in all of my life. And I don't think your ever going to see another one this large. This explosion should have gotten a world record for the largest movie set explosion ever. 😮
wait til you see the fourth movie.
Funny you should say that. At the time when this movie was made, it did in fact set a record for having the most explosives used for a single scene in a movie. The crew actually scouted all around the surrounding area for a radius of several miles before the shot, to make sure no campers were in the area as they didn't know how far some of the debris would travel.
If you haven't already, rewatch this scene and concentrate on the music. It fits so perfectly with everything it's insane. Fury Road is wild, but this will always be the original chase. These guys busted out of the compound, probably not expecting to live. That's true warrior stuff.
Everyone on the rig knew they were gonna die except Max
@Jon. How do you know that Max wasn’t expecting to die?
Road Warrior is always criticized as a slower version of Fury Road but no one seems to point out that Road Warrior was smarter. @@IsaiahRichards692 what the hell are you talking about? Always criticised? This film was made almost 40 years before fury road. It created a whole new sub genre of film including countless american rip offs and cheap immitations. It was and always will be a massive achievement and a influential part of film history.
@@nepntzerZer Sadly enough!
Max knew it was better to Burn Out than to fade away
Yep, at least if you do it in a smart manner, your actions will have serious consequences, (good ones)
Director: Action.
*Explosion*
Film Crew: DEAR GOD WHAT HAVE WE DONE?
One of the best build ups to an epic climax ever.
Harsher in Hindsight: All the talk of Max driving the tanker takes on a much darker tone when *we learn that the tanker is full of sand. The townsfolk are clearly in on the plan so they are recruiting him for what was probably seen as a suicide mission. This is reinforced by the concern shown for Papagallo when he announced that he would drive the tanker.*

Max rolled over twice in less than a day, with his interceptor and with the truck
😳
I'm Surprised that Max didn't do the hard braking, like He did at the start of the Movie, when He frist drove around the abandoned Mack truck. He might Ave been able to out run the pack following the Intersepter

The best Mad Max film, no question
You have to get into the characters head find out what makes it relatable to you. Max had lost everything that he ever loved he's tired and he just wants it to be over. He realized this was his last chance to save the closest thing that would ever be his family again. When he met these people he regained some of his Humanity again just enough to do the right thing and died himself this time instead of surviving and seeing something that you love killed again
I tend to lean toward a do-or-die wish for Max
He knows the compound won't survive the convoy, so he has a chance to make with the fuel, but if he dies with it, so what? He lost his interceptor. He's got nothing. Might as well drive the tanker.
Mel gives Steve McQueen a run for his money for the title of King of Cool with this role!
I always thought the budding romance between the Gyro Captain and the cute girl was so charming, and random lol
Now to do the job ,
I need 5 gallons of Diesel and
some hi-octane gasoline
My vehicle and all the juice i can carry
2:57 a great shot with the coolest music part. Looks epic.
This movie must've been a lot of fun to make.
Still, kinda looks like a deleted scene from a modern movie, which i find hilarious.
it was the most expensive Australian movie made at the time lol
The entire movie was filmed in sequence. From the first scene to the last. All in order. Which is virtually unheard of in today's world of filmmaking. Brilliantly put together. If I am ever able and have the opportunity, I will film 📽️ my movie the same way. Starting with the 1st scene, then moving onto the 2nd etc.
@@besserwissersmartass1170 Modern movies can't stand up to this film.
@@angelwarrior8019 and this would explain the strange lack of continuity with the weather - the sky is blue, overcast, blue, there's sunlight, there's no sunlight...shadows, no shadows, and this is just when they switch camera angles. I often wonder how long it took to shoot the scenes.
Gotta hand it to you,, Treasure. Last of the V8 Interceptors, piece of history; it was a shame to blow it up.
He says it would have been a shame to blow it up (pointing to the booby trap device he had found and removed.)
Yeah, I meant it was a shame when Toady activated the self-destruct and blew it up.
If this movie taught me anything it's that you never leave the enemy the spoils
Salt the fields.
So in hindsight rewatching this as an adult the whole tanker mission was a suicide mission to take out as many gang members as possible using the tanker as bait while the convey went in the opposite direction.
Yes, and it always bothers me that they were willing to sacrifice him. Sure, he wanted the fuel, but I haven't ever believed that he would steal a whole tanker for himself. He did know, however, that initially, at least till he could find another vehicle, that the tanker was his only means of transport. And I think that he knew that he would be the best chance they had to get what he thought was their most valuable resource out to safety.
He would've expected to get to a rendezvous point somewhere and perhaps hook up with whoever survived the marauders.
@@karenseery5064 that was the point; they never fully trusted Max, and that was his fault; in the end, he accepted that he was used as bait because of his utterly antisocial persona; Gibson's Max only regained his full humanity on Beyond Thunderdome
@@karenseery5064 Papagallo knew everything and was willing to sacrifice himself for his family anyway. They just knew they couldn't fully trust Max not to turn the tanker over to the bandits, or to make a run for it all alone
@@peterl3417 there's no way Max would've willingly surrendered a full tanker to the marauders, or put himself and the kid in peril.
Lot of credit to the unarmored gyro captain. It takes guts to be that exposed and still hit back

I've already commented as such on a similar video, but I love the way the guy with the turban does not trust Max at all, throughout the movie. I've also always wondered what happened to the big guy with cropped blonde hair?

What a puny plan!
2:22 Lord Humongous loading all four of his remaining rounds vs. the one shot from the last encounter. He's not taking prisoners this time.
The tanker was the OG War Rig.
Whenever I see a big rig, I say “All drive dat tanka “
Love this film but why did the Humongous never attack the rear of the compound where there was only a three foot high wire fence?
Because it wasn't in the script
theres a large trench built around the entire compound where the only real way to get it is by the front. anyone who would try to enter any other side would be picked off quite easily getting through the trench and trying to climb up the other side.
