Larry Bird Wins 3rd Straight MVP Title - Ties A Record

From the time capsule - 1986 - As someone who watched the Celtics basketball dynasty roll on through the years, this was a day, growing up north of Boston, I could only dream about. But, as a young television reporter working in Boston, I was fortunate to have this dream become true.
Imagine this, Bill Russell, Red Auerbach, sports announcer Johnny Most, sports agent Bob Woolf, Akeem Olajuwon, a throng of sports journalists, open access to the fabled Boston Garden facility, including the parquet floor, and me with a notepad, a microphone and a camera crew to document it all. IT WAS BASKETBALL HEAVEN! Oh yeah, and Larry Bird was there too to accept his third straight Most Valuable Player Award from NBA Commissioner David Stern.
Not a bad day at all.

It’s so true. I love Magic, but it’s so weird they were literally pushing for him to be the 1987 mvp from the preseason! The Celtics got injured over night and Larry dragged them to the finals.
